To solve the abrasion cabinet light flicker, drop your shutter speed on the camera down to 30. The lights are probably running at about 50hz so get your shutter speed under that and you should be golden. Love the vids and excitement of each piece.

Hi, I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to speak to me (Paul) at Charmouth on Monday, it was really cool to meet you. I stuck around for another couple of hours after you left and found some nice pieces for the collection. I didn't find any Ichthyosaur though :( Oh well, maybe next year I'll get lucky.

Bought my first ‘basic’ prep pen this week. Got myself a nice find recently on Charmouth beach and going to give it a go. What’s the worst that can happen!! Thanks for all the really useful guidance and inspiration.

Hello Dan, I enjoyed your relaxing attitude and excellent dialogue. I would like to comment on three points of your video. #1 Please use a piece of foam on your vibrating air scribe. You do a lot of air scribing and it will add up to some serious arm problems. #2 I was thinking you should warn people not to glue their fingers together. It happens without the user even knowing. #3 I noticed the Texas Airsonics air abrasive machine behind you, I really love them for small detail work. Do you use it often? Bob

Cheers for the kind words Bob, funny you should say that about the pens, I have started to get a bit of numbness in my hand after long sessions and am going to get some rubber covers to try and combat this a bit. Not used my Texas machine for a while now as one of the solenoids has burned out :( trying to source one but it seems the Texas air sonic company has gone under in the US :( got to keep my eye out on eBay for one

I use the Texas Air Sonics quite a bit and I know they are out of business but I did find a supplier of parts for the machines. I will get the contact info and pass it on to you. Bob

Just going to use a little bit of epoxy putty and touch it in with some acrylic to blend it. You can use Jolly Mastic, used for repairing marble, good for fossils as you can polish it and it comes in a number of natural looking colours. Looks like calcite veins, handy stuff

Hi Dan. I'm new to your channel and Im new into preping fossils. I've just watched this video and I Wonder, if any superglue can be used as I live in Denmark and we don't have the O3a glue overhere. Your work is amazing and I'm really looking forward to see new videos from you. Keep up the good work and be safe on the beaches.
@TheFossilAcademy
@TheFossilAcademy Жыл бұрын
For sure! Try to find a place that stocks different thickness of super glue and go for a thin one, I would recommend you use a good accelerator spray with the thinner glues, if you only have thicker glue use clamps and wait at least 24 hours before starting to prep it. Will have new content coming soon, I’ve just taken on a new workshop with a little attached shop in Axminster. Will be opening soon to run prep courses.
@Williams63

Thank you for your answer. 😊 I Will see, what glue I can find and if I can find an accelerator as well. It sounds like a good idea with a workshop. Wish I could join, but I think it Will be quite a long trip to make even though, we do go to Scotland every now and then. Hm. Maybe we should go south next time 🤔 I mostly find trilobits and Ortchoceras in limestones here on the island and it could be fun preping those. Anyways. I wish you all the Best with both workshop, preping and findings. 🤞😊

Hi again. Sorry, but I have another question. What do you do, if you want to glue 2 parts of a stone together? I guess, you wont use the accelerator or? 🤔 Thank you in advance. 😊

Of course! This one was a broken one from The Heritage centre Phil let me have, Craig from natural selection fossils makes them and I think they go for £300, he does a number of different casts from real fossils, the one I have is an early one, not sure if Craig made it as the paint job on it isn’t as good as what he produces today. Think it’s www.naturalselectionfossils.com
