Күн бұрын

I've been on the lookout for a clean third gen Camaro for a some time and this one came up on Facebook Marketplace and seemed like a good deal. I made the deal and brought it home. Allegedly it was some undercover car out east aquired as part of a sting and only had 34k miles on it but had been sitting for years and needed a fuel pump to run again. Let's find out if that's the case and get this Camaro back on the road. If you'd like to own the car as shown in this video it can be yours for $1,500 USD. As always, thanks for watching!

Yes, the round rusty object next to the mouse house under the intake plenum is an EGR valve. The throttle body is not liquid cooled, it is liquid heated. That is to keep cold moist air from forming ice on the throttle blades in cold climates.

@MortskeRepair And in 1968, because GM President Pete Estes wasnt sure if they were going to continue the Z28 homologation, some of the engineers had a '68 convertible optioned with RPO Z28 and gave it to Mr. Estes to persuade him. It worked. That is the only 1st gen Camaro Z28 convertible ever made and it now belongs to Dana Mecum of Mecum Auto Auctions. The rarest muscle car ever built.

Sweet thridgen project! I just got me a 86 Ford Bronco II inline fuel pump and strapped it to a boat tank. Cheap and easy and it runs everything that comes in with a bad fuel pump- so i just hook it up and drive the rig into the shop. I went to the junk yard and cut off every different fuel fitting I could find and put them in one of those Milwaukee tool bags along with a 99 corvette fuel filter (to adapt it to newer returnless systems). Then all you need is some fuel injection hose and FI hose clamps- it even works on GM TBI despite the pressure difference. One of the main things that go wrong with these is the fuel inectors go bad when exposed to ethanol- it eats the laquer off the windings inside of them then they have a resistance that is too low for the ECM to handle. you can test them with a multimeter in ohms mode- the resistance should be around 12 ohms on each injector- much less and it wont work right. TPS voltage should be set to .55 volts KOEO. They were all 305's until about 88 when they came out with the 9 bolt that could handle the 350

We put a new transmission in my friends 3rd gen Camaro and we left the torque arm off to see what it would do without it, every time you take off in drive normally it would raise 6" up and if you put it in reverse and held the brake it would pull the car 6 in load of the the ground, the torque arms is really the only support keeping the rear end straight...

About 10 years ago I bought a rust free 86 Camaro RS with the 5.3. It was loaded with ac automatic power windows and seats. Everything worked even had new tires on the same rims you have on yours. I only paid $750 for it. Even all the suspension and brakes were almost new. Car drove beautifully. I drove it for 3 years only problem was I had to replace the fuel pump and I did it the correct way by undoing the rear muffler and dropping the rear axle some it was a pain but got it done. I turned around and sold the car for $3000 . I live in Florida so the car was immaculate underneath. It was red with tee tops and ground effects. Wish I had kept it now after watching this video. Sorry you got screwed so bad. Good luck in whatever you decide to do with it.

I would love to see a 1986 RS since it didn't exist. In 1986 You had the Sport Coupe or the Z28. In 1987 Chevrolet tested the market with a limited edition RS model all with the 2.8L V6 available in red, black or white.

Crank position sensor? It's what tells the computer where the engine is in order to fire the correct injector at the right time(when the intake valve is open). Never heard of a cold start injector, a Ford would just have longer injector pulses until the engine is warm enough to go into closed loop mode where the pulse length is adjusted to get the correct voltage from the O2 sensor.

I've an injector pug with decent length of wire, I plug into the injector earth it then flash the power lead against a 12v feed (don't connect as you'll fry the injector as the are 9v) the extra jolt of power usually frees stuck injectors.

I guess the rear limited slip axle assembly would be worth something. T5 are a dime a dozen and the engine is about a 150-200 core. Since I’ve been a technician for years I would probably snatch the drivetrain and do a decent refresh on the engine and make sure the transmission and rear diff are good and get what I could for them and scrap the rest. I’ve been there and sometimes you just have to take the loss or become a scumbag and try to screw someone else. I sleep better just taking the loss and moving on.

Years ago I worked on a 1995 GMC 1500 that needed a new fuel pump. When I finished ripping the rotted straps and got the tank down I was greeted with half a tub of hardened plumbers putty spackled around the sender. Videoed all that away and found the lock ring just sitting inside the putty not even in place and locked in. When I got the sender assembly out the o-ring seal that seals the sender to the tank was just hanging out in the bottom of the fuel tank.....🤦‍♂️ the owner had told me that the truck used a lot of coolant. When I went looking for a coolant leak I found that whoever had last replaced the thermostat and bolted the housing down with the little half oval metal plate that goes on top in between the housing and the intake manifold which left an 1/8" gap on one side that just leaked coolant like a sivv.... after all that it still ran rough. So I tracked down and fixed 463,000 vacuum leaks lol

I've been doing the metal work and restoration of my 83 Z28. It's a shame how much cost cutting went into these cars. They could have been a lot better. Things to look for if you get another one, the areas around the body plugs on the front and rear foot wells rust. The pinch welds up front are not meant to be lifted from, they crush the fender mount and the door will catch on the fender and it is a large cause for rust in that front corner since it breaks the rocker and floor open. The lift arms need to either go under the subframe by the transmission or the rocker supports/torque boxes. The rear impact support under the bumper are always rusty up here and they do make replacements, they're not expensive. The spare tire compartment on the right side of the trunk is common rust spot (same on driver side). If it's a t-tops car pull the tops out and check the weatherstrip channels. If they're rusty it can lead to a hole on either driver or passenger a pillar bottom, no one really makes replacement pieces for the channels either. The strut tower tops can rust through behind the mount, battery trays on either side where it's spot welded to the inner fender, bottom of the radiator support, the driver side trans mount, and the front of the rear wheel wells will start to rust along the pinch weld and at the bottom. The coating they used from the factory is not very good and a lot of those areas get moisture and salt between the layers and rust.

They were very poor quality as was most other vehicles of that era. Not many domestic vehicles of that time were known for their quality, reliability, and durability. I was young in the 80s and I wanted a Z28 so badly that I couldn’t stand it. Fortunately my poverty prevented me from getting one.
