I live in Tulsa Oklahoma and I grew up here. This town used to be rich. It was Rich, and industrial, and Christian. Then they crushed the domestic oil market and told everybody that we ran out of oil which is a total load of crap. And now Tulsa is a shot-out hull of its former city, and its main industries are casinos and weed dispensaries. Getty oil was a big employer. As were literally dozens of oklahoma-based oil companies.

Your "blower surge" is called a "lean hunt" condition. usually associated with injectors because blower injectors are big and need to be dialed back at idle. carbs can be adjusted to eliminate this condition . but some people tune it in cause they think it sounds cool. That's how I understand it.
@MortskeRepair8 ай бұрын
Interesting
@BreakFixRepeat8 ай бұрын
Superchargers dont always make boost at idle so seeing vacuum at idle isnt unheard of, especially on a stock engine/cam. Ive seen a few people comment that the bottom end wont last long on boost, but uts all in the tuning and how often you rev the guts out of it. I ran a stock bottom end(cast piston TBI engine) small block for a couple of years on 10psi of boost with no issue. Daily driven, but not daily beaten.

AS a rule of thumb, Holleys don't like much more than 6.5 psi. If and when the fuel pressure is higher than that, there's a tendency for fuel to blow past the needle and seat. I've found that if you adjust the fuel pressure regulator so the carb(s) see 6 - 6.5 all is better. Hope this helps

Got to LOVE the couch mechanics that have never worked on a motor . ( and want to call them engines) Story time- I was 18 years old had a 69 Ford Fairlane in 1980 with a 302. My fuel pump goes out in the middle of nowhere late at night before cell phones. I unhooked the lineto the fuel pump ran it to my windshield washer pump then ran a rubber hose to the carb. I'd push the button fill up the carb. Then drive till it sputterd the fill it up again. I made it home then to the parts store the next day. Thanks uncle John for telling me what to do when my fuel pump goes out how many couch mechanics can say they did that

I believe it was set up with a slight underdrive pulley set and it was very streetable using pump premium gas. Find out what size of jets are in the carbs - you don't need bigger ones with two on a blower. If you want to get half-way decent fuel mileage stick smaller jets in it. There is a way to have it run on one carb and get the other to kick in when you put your foot in it. I remember that article in a car magazine long ago. That's the good thing about Holley's - they're easy to play around with to fine tune things to your liking. It's a good idea to always have an extra set of float parts.

My best guess on blower surge would be power valves. You've got essentially 2 engines to tune there. The actual engine and what's taking place on top of the screws. I bet a pair of quadrajets would work great for what you have. Small primaries and progressive secondary. You'd have to redo your linkage though.

It won't make boost until you get a load on it. You might see a pound or 2 on a hard Rev tune? Don't run the blower belt to tight. That can break the crank to. That wide clogged belt can run pretty loose. Little floppy while running should be OK.
Thank you for a well spent time of enjoyed entertainment! The flame and sound coming out of that engine was very cool! I am sure that you have several good choices for a vehical to put that engine into. I would of taken the time and money in going through the old engine first. Overhaul and related prep work... But that is just me... You should dyno the horsepower once installed in a vehicle.

That was another cool Mortske minute, love these cause where else do you hear about the older automotive history? Bubbletop with the blower would be one option cause it's not going to be a bolt and screw kind of restorable car anyway. Personally I would like to see the bubbletop with a carbureted engine, however it's your call what do to with it. The only thing that could go would be the head gaskets or one of the rods would decide to hit the orbit.
