Imagine if this guy did some fly fishing at the beach, would be an epic video
@larrytischler5704 жыл бұрын
I can't possibly think of anything worse than someone taking a fly rod to the surf to fish with. Wrong application entirely! You need to cast into the seabreeze. Try that with a fly. You need to get out many yards to clear the first sand bar. How far do you cast that fly line? Then you need to put a lot of drag brake on those Jack fish to slow them down. My first jack crevalle was about 25 lbs and I caught it on a Gulf Coast surf pier. It took all but the bottom layer of 200 yards of first gen 30 lb mono until I turned it. And my thumb was on the side of the spool to add drag.

Fantom I agree he should do a fly fishing the surf video I think it would be an awesome watch. And I think it would be even more fun to make for Matt. Larry you need to do some research on fly fishing gear. Please go do some before you say an idea like fly fishing the surf would be a horrible idea, after all people catch selfish and Marlins on fly rods, just go check the igfa record books. Its just a matter of finding the right gear to do so.

Long time 1st time. Would love to see you do a video for the traveling surf angler. Alot of folk only get down 1 or 2 times a year with a limited bag. Would enjoy seeing a video on a 1 rod simple setup and say your 5 must have baits for a trip. Don't want to over pack or under pack but heading down in September for a week and putting together my tackel box. Also looking to try and get a rod and reel setup for under $100 that will allow topwater and drop rig fishing. Any ideas?
@BamaBeachBum4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for good questions! Definitely some good topics to cover. I can imagine if you keep up with me and only come down once a year for a week it could be a bit overwhelming trying to be prepared for everything. Lol As far as a setup that would be good for both topwater and set rigs, that’s tough to say. Such different approaches. Topwater you want something light and easy to make multiple casts and work a bait whereas for set rigs you want something that can handle heavy lead and handle wind and waves. You can use an inshore setup for set rigs like a 7’ medium action rod with a 3k or 4K spinning reel, but you’ll be limited to use only on the calmer days and limited to fishing pretty close to the beach because you won’t have the distance.

Excellent jack. Caught a few this week and that one was littler bigger than my biggest this week. If you happen to find yourself around Amelia island area this comming Tues/Wednesday or want to take a trip for overnight fishing legally in state park. I have campsite and park closes sunset and opens at 9am for all non campers (means barely anyone else there especially fishing last time it was just me and friends alone entire star park beach was epic) Jettie there is on fire currently but only can be accessed by boat or if you get a campsite (which are booked solid for few they have). Going to toss a couple shark rods out (I have land based shark permit) and will target reds/trout/jacks, tarpon, bluefish, and flounder as all of them are biting excellent there on a light setup. If you can make it send a comment I'll get you my info and I have two spots left so your welcome to bring one other person+1 if you wish. We have electricity, warm showers, etc can bring RV or tent. Lmk if u will be around here kinda short notice but should be epic trip. I don't make KZbin videos I do sometimes film my catches for my family but it is an epic spot to fish and film. White sand beaches with large rock jetty and a large destroyed fishing pier from hurricanes. I also have a spot in another epic state park fishing spot right on the beach (mayport jettys) for August 7th the whole weekend (campers only from sunset till 9am so will almost entirely ours if you find yourself around Amelia island/Jacksonville area send a reply and I'll get you my info for either of these or some other epic trips in the works.

Jack Crevalle, To eat or Not to eat? I have heard both that these are trash fish and some say that if prepared right, they are good eating. What is your opinion?
@larrytischler5704 жыл бұрын
I have eaten a very small one that did not have the bloody red meat of the adults. When you are very hungry you can eat that small jack. There is a more offshore jack, the horse eye jack that looks very similar but has very little red meat and is OK to eat. I met a guide once that fished the coast in Mexico. He claimed jack crevalles were very good when made into ceviche. I never had the nerve to try that. They make good shark bait. I had a big one bitten off at 5th pass on the Tamualipas beach. Teethmarks were well over an inch apart and it's half moon shape indicated its head was huge.

If you know a Local rod builder, have him put 2 or3 wrap trim rings on your rod a Certain inch marks (20-30-40) will give you a basic measurement. without changing the action of your rod. Or learn to do it yourself and do ALL your rods.
