Nice fix Tom. Good thing to keep the local businesses running. Word of mouth is a great way to keep the shop busy. Thanks for the video love watching fixing stuff.

G'day Tom. Nice repair work on that slasher bar. I liked the idea of the "schotch keying" (grub screws) the splined hub into place. Cheers, Aaron.

My bush hog is at least 40 years old and still going. About 10 years ago I had to rebuild the top that the gearbox bolts to. It finally just rotted away. those old mowers are like Timex watches. Take a lickin and keep on tickin.

As a mechanic who worked at a dealership that sold Bush Hog equipment, I can tell you that an air hammer and sometimes heat is the easiest way to remove those bolts. Also a 3/4 inch impact is the easiest way to remove the nuts, but I've had to cut them off with a torch many times. I heard you say that you didn't have a socket so that's not much help to you, but it might be for someone reading my comment.
@hilltopmachineworks2131Ай бұрын
Heat and a press got them thank goodness. Yeah I did not have a socket to fit the nuts. The were an odd size. Not Metric either cause I checked that too just to make sure.

It so nice having a big 50 ton press isn't it. All that steel looks so familiar lol

Sounds like his shear bolt is a little too strong. Shear bolt should have prevented this.

I would tap the dowel pin holes and put set screws in them
@hilltopmachineworks2131Ай бұрын
I figured the dowel pins are harder and would hold up better than using all softer set screws. Plus seeing I was tapping into two types of steel, I was worried I might have an issue trying to tap 4 deep holes.

@@hilltopmachineworks2131 It was the vertical drums type of machine. After hitting, there was a big bent in the fixing brackets. But I managed to repair it.
