if you dont use the truck a lot you need tyo put in a battery switch to competly disconecct the battery. for the water tank: install a booster pump to increase the pressure as you lose quite a bit due to the height it needs to go up and distance it needs to travel. also remove the 90 degree bends everywhere and put in smooth ones as the straight 90 seriously limit the flow/speed of the water. never use short 90's. and if at all possible: increase the pipe diameter especially if you must have 90 bends in it.

A suggestion Re: Daily Maintenance i.e greasing. Every operator needs a basic daily checklist that they collect when signing in and they hand it back at the end of day with certain items checked and inspected. Just to help narrow it down to 'who it might be Dan' 🙌🏽👌🏽
@TheByard3 жыл бұрын
When I drove equipment for a major contractor operators were paid an extra hour per day to grease, fuel, do fluid checks and clean the machine. If any of those jobs or checks were not done the operator lost the weeks greasing money. This practice stemmed back to when machine's were steam powered and the operators came in and lit the boiler fires and got steam pressure ready for the working day. Of course the bean counters did not like paying grease money and so all the jobs had to be done during the working day, this cut down on productivity with the time lost plus, breakdowns as foremen chased the operators to keep going and not grease etc. So get the operators to grease etc. before/after the working day, or stipulate a time for it. I loved to access walkway to the wheel wash screening bin.
@JstWatchingPeople3 жыл бұрын
@@TheByard 👏🏽 this is great insight into some of the industry practices. It's very interesting how far that practice dates back to and incentivising it also makes sense to keep productivity up.
@TANGARASandOSCARS3 жыл бұрын
@@TheByard I agree with the concept you are suggesting. If you want something done, you need to give time for it to be done. However, my solution would be to hire one extra person who works just in the yard and only has the responsibilities of greasing.
@TANGARASandOSCARS3 жыл бұрын
Actually, it's a good system you suggested. Say it only takes 40 min to grease up your lorry and you are paid 60, or 20 and 30. That extra 10 or 20 min of pay is a 'bonus' / 'incentive' for looking after the equipment.
@TheByard3 жыл бұрын
@@TANGARASandOSCARS I have worked on projects that employed diesel bowser drivers and a grease/ fluids team to look after motor scrapers. The Cat machines are checked and started up by this team, so the operator can jump in the saddle and go straight to work. These machines run for 12 hrs. and fuel is topped up during the two 20 min breaks during the shift. After 7 pm the mechanical team will check the machines and shut them down. All other plant is fueled and greased etc. by the operators.
@sterlingarcher463 жыл бұрын
Dan , how about leaving a dedicated maintenance sheet or book inside each machine and lorry with a copy in the office , with the date of each greasing , each maintenance act and organising an Exel sheet with periodic maintenance checks and alarms and all that jazz . Then each driver has to bring his vehicle to the maintenance bay to have his periodic check , grease etc . It's a lot of work and labor involved but it would probably prevent a lot of breakdowns i think .

QUICK, cheap temporary fix to your water issues. 12-15 1000L IBC containers connected together fill via the hose on a ball valve (will constantly fill until capacity and will refill each night for sure ), with an OASE muddrain pump with 2 inch flexi pipe to fill the lorries in 3-5 mins, or even better re-fill water tank directly . Hose filling with the head height with even good pressure must take ages. If space is and issue create a racking to stack IBCs, spray them Ashville black to stop the water going manky.

Hello Daniel, Just a cost saving suggestion for you if you need a new water tank. Try contacting an industrial gas company if they have any gas tanks that they need to scrap. You can save a lot of money by buying an old gas tank because those tanks are changed often and they sell them for scrap value. Those tanks are so easy to convert to hold water.
