Not sure how far ahead you are recording this, but a helpful tip for Dans and Playfriends; shell insurance is *really* helpful and supeisingly cheap for how useful it is. Don't be shy on purchasing any shells you might find useful, or just enjoy wearing! Also, it's not super obvious but you can take your shell off whenever you want! Press and hold the same button you use to change into a shell. Or swap your active shell with your hammer shell (down on the d-pad for controller users) Now you can change the shell on your hammer without waiting for it to break, or just make sure your fashion is always on point. I picked this game up after seeing your first episode. I knew I had to play it myself. I'd beaten it before episode 5 came out, and I loved it all the way though! The latest in a long line of great indie games I've found through watching PlayFrame. Keep up the great work and graat vibes!

I decided to look what the "Flotsam" in Flotsam Vale meant, and it can mean one of 2 very fitting things for the area: 1 is " the wreckage of a ship or its cargo found floating on or washed up by the sea", and the 2nd is "people or things that have been rejected and are regarded as worthless", both of which feel very appropriate for this toxic swamp of junk and discarded things

Is that not common knowledge? I keep forgetting that not everyone read old novels which often talk about the sea and coastline using period language.

So that was a Bobbit Worm, known for living most of its life buried and attacking with lightning speed and devastating power. Its jaws can cut a fish in half as they snap closed and drag their prey back into the hole from which they sprang.
@svndve
@svndve 21 сағат бұрын
It's also got a really awful backstory for its name. (Might be a bit sensitive for younger audience) There was a lady named Lorena Bobbitt, who found out that her husband was cheating on her. In the middle of the night, while her husband was asleep, she sliced off his...uh, you-know-what... Anyway, curator Dr. Terry Gosliner was inspired by the similarities between Lorena Bobbitt's case and the Bobbitt worm's ability to amputate and slice prey clean in half. This name origin for an animal has been forever seared into my mind lol

@@svndve Lorena Bobbitt was the subject of many a schoolyard rhyme when I was a kid. You can imagine why.
@DrDark0
@DrDark0 9 сағат бұрын
@@svndve I'd suggest you look up that case again. The provocation was not infidelity. I don't think the whole terrible affair bears repeating in this space, but Lorena Bobbitt was an abuse victim, not a mad woman who attacked her hapless husband for being unfaithful. I don't mean to be a downer, but the 'crazy woman' narrative in this instance is a sensationalist misconception that seems all too common for me to quietly ignore.

@@DrDark0 first time I heard that charming little bit of revisionism. Since op says they heard it as a kid I'm betting someone tried to soften it for them, or turn it into a joke, but man that leaves a *bad* taste in one's mouth :(

I guess an easy way to get a banana peel in The Sands Between would be to get insurance for one. That way you'll simply start with one every try. Also, I think you forgot a big purple crystal right behind where you ended the last episode / started this one.

For the record it’s actually super cheap to insure a banana at shellfish desires. Then you can just teleport naked to the sands between and it’ll give you one to use

Fun Fact (That I should have done earlier): The enemies walking around on their 'hands' at the beginning are frogfish! They are related to anglerfish and actually do walk around on modified fins like that along the bottom of the sea.

It's possible to swap your hammer before it breaks: use D-Pad Down to swap your current hammer and shell, pick up a new shell from the ground, and then switch hammer and shell back again. (Being aware of the swap button is a real lifesaver in boss fights as well, when you don't have time to charge up a heavy attack whenever you want. Especially since you get s when jumping into a new shell)

Like a sea bunny (a type of sea slug. It looks like a cute white bunny and is defenceless. It however likes eating a poisonous coral that it has some immunity to which deters predators from eating it as they don't want to eat the consumed poison).

Dan having sooo many microplastics makes me very anxious. I hope he gets a few levels first thing next video and doesn't lose them. He did amazing taking down the Ceviche Sisters in a single attempt.

This episode is the first since the beginning that Krill has been out of the water. That feels like it should be significant but it isnt. Adds some good level design though taking away the swim

There's someone interesting you missed talking to in the Lower Crust. You were pretty close to them during your exploration in episode 7, but then cutscenes happened. To avoid too many spoilers, they're close to where you can do multiple types of upgrades. Either way, I'm really enjoying your playthrough!

Also, the easiest way to get bananas is to just buy Banana Insurance, drop out of your current shell, and entering a Moonsnail Shell. You can even do it twice (putting the first banana on your hammer) for a spare just in case. One of the big benefits of buying all the insurances is being able to get exactly the weight class / shell spell you need for the situation at hand.

I'll be honest, I was really struggling with this game for whatever reason. That is, until I found the Valve. Then the game became super easy as I steamrolled everything with my Valve shell and Valve hemmer.

14:53: "Sleeping with the fishes" also carries less weight in this setting. 34:10: Man, look at those wiggly water distortion effects. Sure, water's more significant in this game than most, but water _surfaces_ are much rarer. 0:19-0:30: I'm sure Roland would disagree! 9:35: It's still just gravity, Dan. 14:30: I'm pretty sure frogfishes usually don't crawl above water. That's more of a mudskipper niche. 30:48, 31:10: This bodes poorly. 35:55: I expected the survivor to power up at this point. Grab her fallen sister's claw and start dual-wielding or something, a proper Ornstein & Smough sorta deal.

2:33 My kingdom for a frag grenade. 5:43 Business skills don't equate to being a good person. He can be a jerk and a good businessman. 28:04 ... I hate that I know this creature, but for the life of me cannot remember it's name. 28:47 I would equip that just because it's an oyster. Also, finding a pearl because you're eating one always has a moment of panic. When you find that it's a pearl, it's real neat... until you lose it, or forget that it's a pearl. 36:34 Wait... it can't be. A viable ranged option in a soulslike?

Not sure if you're "entering the water" in that cave section so much as entering water with a different salinity and/or temperature... _or maybe I missed a detail at the entrance of the cave and you really in an underwater air pocket_
@waltermundt
@waltermundt 11 сағат бұрын
You can't "swim" (the glide from holding the jump button) in the upper part of that cave, same as in the tide pools at the start. So presumably it's an air pocket.
