As a conservationist I didnt, anyone that works at the countryside knows either conciously or unconciously that the best answer to the tragedy of the commons is private property, and governments are inefficient at best, and detrimental at worst, the "greta thunberg" mentality in my country only serves to replace burned down forests with windmills for the green lobby, as they are the only ones that can legally do something with them
@absolutelyunepic30727 ай бұрын
@@Mrlighthouse1000yeah, they basically up and said capitalism was behind all the pollution and corruption. Ironic because one of the main polluters nowadays is a communist country. Such a tunnel visioned way of thinking. The problem is not capitalism, it would end up being the exact same in any other system just with different people getting power and thus corrupted just like the capitalist billionaire. The problem is human nature. We are not blank slates. We are naturally selfish creatures that under the right conditions can all become monsters. Tyrants will always form if you give anyone too much power, and in this case, its the billionaires. Before we had modern capitalism it was the tyrant king. I finished this game a few days ago, and I was impressed. The ending was really touching to me; how when Kril asks Nemma if everything was pointless, she tells him that as bad as things are, they never need to give up as long as they help other people. How Kril kills Prawnathan, but the story doesn’t end there, because we see him then going back and saving Chitan. How we see the crabs cleaning up their city, Chitan continuing her training, Nemma using her restaurant to support others, and Kril becoming an adventurer who fights evil and protects the weak while having given his shell to a shell-less hermit crab. It’s not a happy ending, but it’s a hopeful ending, and I really appreciated that. The world is broken and there are no easy fixes, but as long as we stand up for what is right and help other people we can still have hope.

Magista is a tyrant who just kept taxing people to oblivion and expanding her fortress regardless of the people's wellbeing. Camstcha is a king who couldn't let go of power. He couldn't use the Perfect Whorl as its hermits only so he eliminated the hermits and kept the shell himself so no one could use it and he could stay king. Pollution isn't exclusive to capitalism, as communist China is one of the largest sources of pollution in the world. a little note about voltai - the reason krill gets depressed after killing her in particular is that she 1. obviously has no idea what’s going on, and 2. might legitimately be a small child. every other boss that kril has previously fought has done so because they straight up wanted to murder him, but voltai says in her opening cutscene that she’s lonely and wants to play. killing voltai is a major turning point for kril since there’s absolutely no malice being leveled towards him in the fight, and by killing her he’s briefly become just like roland - destroying the life of an innocent bystander for the sake of an easier, faster way to get to his goals. of course there are major differences in their circumstances and you could definitely argue that with kril’s knowledge of the treasure and the race that was going on killing voltai was justified (although I personally don’t think so. if the treasure were a dangerous weapon then maybe, but kril is fully under the impression that it’s just money) but ultimately that doesn’t matter because an innocent person is dead either way. kril recognizes this almost immediately after doing it and that’s why there’s such a drastic shift in his character for the second half of the game . it’s a bit hard to pick up on if you’re distracted from struggling with the fight but kril’s subtle turn here is my favorite bit of writing in the entire game

I wasn't happy seeing the ending at first but you make a good point, it's the only "real" ending one can expect. No one here was good, all were working for their own interests and Kril was no different. The few will exploit the many and all you can really do about it is limited to your own sphere of influence in your own life. Granted I'm a Christian so I look forward to death with joyous expectation, not fatalistic depression. And the time I do have can best be spent doing what good I can in the time that we have. There's no way you're going to change how people act in general, 'nothing new under the sun'. But you can do the few things that actually matter by helping others; Feed the poor, visit the widows, care for the fatherless, take in the stranger. In your own life, avoid things where you can that feed the corrupt systems. Use your things longer, repair them, buy used, keep things out of the dump. Garden, if you can. Not because you'll change the world but at least you can do what you can.

Remember, never talk about how ancient nomads, like the aboriginals in Australia, destroyed the lush forest of their homeland because they decided the best way to hunt was mass fires. That is to say, every system has greed and destruction in it. That said, the overall message of how you, PERSONALLY have to act for the world to change is accurate. So that's nice at least.

Thanks for summing up the plot and making the messages the game wanted to convey relatively easy to understand. It was clear from the get-go that environmentalism and critique on capitalism were the main themes of this game's story, but what really stuck out for me personally was its take on violence. When that snail at the beginning started attacking me, I immediately reacted by swinging back only to realize a few seconds later that I could have just decided to run away. Instead, I killed a non-zombified being with human-like (or, in this case, crab-like) intelligence, and to rub in the meaninglessness of my impulsive behavior, the shell it left was too small for me to wear, meaning that I didn't even benefit from my brutal action. I just sat there for a whole minute and then decided not to let this death go to waste by promising to the dead snail that from this point on until the end of the game I would be very careful about where I'd swing my fork at and avoid violence wherever possible, a promise I was reminded of by Nemma when she pointed out the horrific nature of fighting against other sea-creatures when talking to her in the Expired Grove. I just finished the game for the first time, but technically speaking, I didn't finish it at all. When the prompt for attacking the pawn owner appeared, I was awestruck. I was instantly reminded of my promise, searched the whole city area for another way of ending the game, of just leaving the shell behind and letting it be. You could argue I did exactly what the game's credit scene said was the worst thing to do: nothing. But at least from my point of view, I did something: I decided against violence. I sat there for another minute, took a last look at the pawn owner and my shell, said "Fuck it!" ... and turned off my console. I honestly couldn't have wished for a more phenomenal ending to my already overly-phenomenal experience with this game. Thank you so much, Aggro Crab 🦀

Honestly the message could have been better handled with the ending. Making Firth understand how the pollution is affecting the ocean and redeem him instead of killing him mercilessly, polluting all the city, and then for some reason making Kril look like the hero.

@@oggolbat7932 but the thing is, the story wants to point out tha krill was wrong in the last second, he got too angry, he got the perfect whorl and instead of using to save new carcinia chitan, he focused his anger on firth and only firth, his choice to be more violente than he should have was what caused the tragic ending, if just got the whorl, undid what firth did and went on to push his own plans then krill xould have either saved the ocean or maybe in a more tragic way develop a god complex e rule with an iron fist of a god. in the end the whorl being destroyed was kind of necessary since it would be cheap for such powerful macguffin exist and solve everything. the ending we got is a solid neutral ending with a good message.

This game is twisted, I have never played something so unrelentingly dark. Kril is just a avatar of destruction and despite all the talk of making a change he just kills and endangers everyone then leaves his victims to clean up as he moves on to undoubtedly cause more chaos without ever growing or changing as a person.

On the note of colorful (kind of) soulslike games with strange creatures instead of humans, have you by any chance checked out Clash: Artifacts of Chaos? Like AC'sT it's very colorful, creative, has solid gameplay and more to the story & characters than one may expect. It's not fully Soulslike though there are recognizable elements. More focused around melee and martial arts than weaponry, and a prequel to the Zeno Clash series. It's become one of my favourite games in recent years and can warmly recommend it. Clash: AoC is also a prequel to the Zeno Clash series, so there is more to look into beyond the game alone.

Hearing other people's experience with this is interesting. I honestly struggled the most with Pagurus out of any other boss while I considered Voltai the easiest out of them all

It’s just oceanic pollution, the creatures are corrupted because there’s microplastics in their bodies (plus some later revealed other causes).
