I tried out the off-site ads program, right when it first started, for about a week and kept seeing a whole bunch of fees and very few sales. I chose about 25 listings that I wanted to promote but decided it wasn't worth it. So I cancelled the campaign. Or at least I thought I cancelled it, but in fact eBay had it set up so that I would be indefinitely charged off-site ad fees on those 25 listings until either the item sold or I ended the listing!!! I confirmed this multiple times with the eBay representative I was chatting with and he confirmed that I was understanding it correctly. It blew my mind that a company as large as eBay could start a new program with such an egregiously unfair set of rules that I vowed to never use off-site ads after that. It was eye-opening to say the least.

Exactly what I’m hearing. You pay them for the platform and now they want the customer to pay for the sites advertising we already pay them for. Maybe if the CEOs are making too much money to run the business, they should look at that.

Ebay support lately is even more of a joke. I delayed shipping for a customer because they were on vacation and asked me to in the sale notes. I always had the shipping defect removed in cases like this. So far after one call and one chat, no action taken. Oh and before that I used the appeal defect button, they denied it in 6 hours, I'm sure the person didn't bother reading anything. Ebay should STFU about AI, they don't even implement simple logic. Best offer autopay? Not working. Customer delayed shipping option at checkout? Non existent. I could go on and on. WHAT IS WRONG AT EBAY HQ in SJ??? There is zero innovation other than in adding more complex fees, silly promotions, etc. What a sad state Ebay is in compared to what it could be.

I see my traffic page says 30-40% of my page views come from external sites without any promotion on my part. I feel like they should do that with the money I already pay them. I know other sites have higher fees but when they make billions in profit a year, I don't think they need more of my money.

I originally got on E-Bay 20 years ago because they had a very large group of buyers. Now we have to pay more to keeps sales going and to reach other sites and buyers??? I made major changes two years ago. I used to have 7.500 books listed. I cut that down to 2.000 books. I only sell more desirable, less common books. I do not promote because most of my listings show up on the first page of searches. Roughly 73% of my listings sell in 1-3 months. I only run mark down sales and promote my 4-6 month old sales. I only promote at 2%. After 5-6 months I end the listing. I revise and relist using sell similar. I'm 65 and retired. This is a fun hobby that makes good money. If I was younger I would not promote listings. Instead I'd sign up to be on a few of the sites that only sell books to reach more buyers. New site fees would be cheaper than paying promoted listings and off site adds.

Promoted listings are a money grab, but I think it has helped my sales start to recover. After a horrible 2023 (I felt like my store was "throttled"), I recently selectively promoted a very few of my pricier listings and I think that may have drawn more views to my other listings. Sales picked up right after I did that. I'm a small fry seller, less than 10 promoted listings and just over 440 total listings.

I am very anti-promoted listings because it makes me upset. Many of us without promoted listings and without a following are struggling to get sales. I tired the off-site promo because it was a free 100.00. I had to end it early. It hit 118.00 in fees for 350.00 in sales. That is NOT worth it! Although because sales have been so slow, I have put a couple of my categories on the 5% Promoted rate that used to do well. I am not sure it helps. Sales are still low. I had sent an offer to someone before I turned on promoted listings and they accepted after I put on the promoted campaign and ebay charged the promoted fee! There is no way that should have happened. Ebay has just become greedy and I don't see it stopping. The promoted fee on the item, tax and shipping is BS as well.
@Jinjerella8 ай бұрын
This just draws people from outside of eBay into eBay, which does not necessarily equate to a sale. Especially when they advertise around your product. Other similar products that are cheaper. Should they use my fee to draw them to my item? Which shows them another item less expensive that they then purchase. So how does this benefit me exactly? It doesn't. But lucky me, I get to pay for it. On any promotion, if you pay more than 2 %you're probably losing. So I'm not sure how this whole thing works. But I'm pretty sure I got ripped off. I said ten percent to promote my item and they took half of my money. I barely made any profit at all. Because all of my profit has grabbed up by eBay for promoting the item. That was my highest percentage on a promoted item, and I am not happy.

eBay sees that Amazon is making a ton of money through their advertising. Advertising on Amazon has become a specialty that requires knowledge of how to best reach your target audience as well as constant research, review and tweaking of the advertising you do. eBay is moving in the same direction.
@zachariah71148 ай бұрын
Which is a real shame. Because sure, eBay can become a “mini Amazon” of sorts. But I don’t know any customers that actually use it that way. eBay is too worried about courting big box retailers and brands. Let us undesirable resellers hocking used goods find a place to sell where we’re actually promoted… cross listing and growing at least one other platform to rely less on eBay looks better and better by the day

eBay is actually running buyers off by making it too overwhelming to pick an item from the 100s being sold….and pushing the sellers from china who take forever if at all to arrive….that really puts people off in buying from eBay..especially when it says the item is located in the US but the seller is in china and it doesn’t disclose that unless u click on the sellers about page and it shows the sellers location. many reasons but I belive it all comes down to how much of an expense it is for ebay. example if cds have a high return rate or if they have issues were they need to use customer service or even low sell through rate because it costs them money to use servers to house so many items that don't sell quickly.

I use The SHARE button to share to my Twitter (X) and Pinterest accounts and also to my Facebook page. Soo, are we going to lose that opportunity now? I have several hundred followers on each platform including eBay, so I really feel like I am doing ok for FREE, even without a KZbin channel that specifically deals with reselling. I kind of agree here. IF it is already happening why do we need to pay for it? UNLESS they are taking away the share button and stopping the ability for us to be a part of google searches. I wont be buying into this as that is what I was already thinking when I seen the invite. "I get this for the cost of a store and now you want to charge me as well." Almost like Amazon increasing the price of Prime, then stating if you want your videos to be ad free, we want more money on top of the more money we just took last year!!!

It's not that it works, it's that they "suppress" your items less,...it also definitely works in the beginning because they want to hook you in,....once the algorithm has you by the bollz they will be able to manipulate you into promoting higher and higher over the years. Good luck.

@@NashTV8I believe you are correct. When I first promoted at 2% it worked great. Then a few months later it's like I got throttled back again. That's OK I am spending money on a cross listing app instead of promoting higher.

You often get very defensive about viewer sales, which is one of the reasons you began a KZbin channel in the first place I suppose. However, I'm wondering if you distinguish between viewers and subscribers? You always point out sales from viewers but I wonder, how do you know who your viewers are unless they mention it? If they're subscribers that's a known but a random viewer who doesn't say they are a viewer, would you know who they are? Again, I'm not criticizing or attacking, just wondering.

most viewers leave a message. Some don't but it says repeat buyer and I recognize their name. There are I am sure sale to viewers that I am not aware of as well.
