Most of my partial refunds are just me compensating for some USPS failure. Late delivery, damages, etc. For example...sold a NIB lego set, arrived with the box crushed in transit. Seller sent pics, and then accepted a 50% off partial refund.

99% of the time I ask for a return. ONLY exception is if I absolutely know I made a mistake.

I never do a partial refund; I always ask them to open a return as per eBay policy. Most of the time they never return it.

It's a weird way of making a living. Most treasures are found from others lack of knowledge. Let's be real a reseller isn't going to tell the vendor " omg these are selling on eBay for 200 bucks are you sure you only want 10 bucks but if they are asking 200 for something that's only selling for 10 on eBay the reseller will point it out. Please stop it us resellers find our most valuable treasures because of ones lack of knowledge, I'm guilty myself. I found a 6 ft table covered with 10 and 14 kt gold jewelry the vendor assumed it was just Avon custome jewelry we made 11 k off this guy. We paid 200 bucks I would call this hitting a lick. He found out quickly through word of mouth we pawned it all for 11 k. It caused a bunch of problems for me and my partner. No one trusted us anymore. We did nothing wrong right? Some would say we took advantage, some would say it's unethical, some would say I would've paid him more, some would say I should've went back and broke him off some of my profit. And some would say there's nothing wrong with buying to resell because that's how reselling works. Do you really think that's how reselling works?

When I first started, I was so nervous about getting a negative review I would refund ASAP. Now a 1.5 yrs later I will gladly accept a return in 30 days, then refund. I've only once negotiated a partial refund.

I have sold a couple of bibles for good profit. One was a large print study bible that sold for $35. The other was an English-Hebrew bible. It sold for $87. I paid $5 each for the Bible’s. Both were leather bound and in really good condition. Both sold within a few weeks of listing.

I’m in Australia and eBay have different rules here. I don’t do refunds period as I sell low cost items so it’s easier to refund rather than be out of pocket on additional postage which is way higher than the USA prices

I have a weakness for animated plush toys. I enjoy cleaning and testing them (though my dog HATES them). When I sell them on eBay, the buyer will sometimes claim that they don't work after they get them. (I always test them before I list them and test them again before shipping as they can be long tail.) When I can, I quiz the buyer before taking any action: Did they use fresh batteries, did they switch it "on", did they press the button, etc. About half of the time, I get a "Thanks for your help!". Some just return them for a refund (they usually still work fine, so are relisted) and one gave me a sob story about how the vintage animated plush was given as a gift to a child and their birthday was ruined because the toy didn't work. I refunded without return that time because the kid still wanted to keep it (or the parents threw it away?).

I hope you have not quit working and relied on KZbin and eBay.

I had a guy claim a ton of things didnt work on a tape deck that was fully tested. I asked him to open a return and offered a full refund. He then said he was poor, blind and crippled and couldn't possibly return it. Said he couldn't afford food or meds because he bought this unit. Left negative feedback saying I refused to refund.

i get partial refunds like a boss because people are f***ing stupid and pack things like s**t even after begging them to pack it well.

I haven’t had much trouble with the kinds of scammers you mentioned. It’s been a long time since I got a negative feedback and suddenly got 3 within a span of a week. No contact from the buyer, just got cranky and left a negative feedback. I was able to get one removed. The other 2 I will have to put up with for the next year. Very disappointing. Great advice. I’ve learned from your videos to keep the pepper perspective when the occasional scammer makes themselves known… sometimes BEFORE the sale with excessive and persnickety questions.

This couldn’t have come at a better time! I was halfway through the cast and got the MOST. RIDICULOUS. COMPLAINT. from an item someone received a week ago. I just laughed (to myself) and messaged back that I have free returns and let me know if they have a problem with initiating it. And now we wait…

No return No refund is my policy unless it is obviously my fault. I see perhaps 2 scam per year and I have about 2500 sales per year. My buyers are great but that may just be the items I sell.

I look over my items very well and try to take good photos. When I get the ‘you failed to disclose….’, I go right to the photos. That’s when I tell them to send it back.

Most bibles are worth nothing. Family history recorded in it can make it valuable as that may be the only record in existence. A famous owner or family will also help. I paid $2.50 for a box of items and in it was a common 1860s Bible, but it contained family history dating back to the 1700s. Multiple branches of the family bid it up to $100 solely based on the family history and due to it belonging to a ancestor.

I noticed even Temu is asking for photos of damage items on some items. I believe on items over $10 they ask for photos,. They will allow you one refund and keep one item out of your shipment but you do have to purchase a minimum of $15.

I had a sale that the buyer ask for a cancellation, apparently Ebay didn't cancel it when they click, so I tried to cancel and Ebay went ahead with the sale with the label and everything. I explained to the buyer that I would do the refund minus Ebay's fee they took out(which they took out more than they should have, from my calculation). But so far buyer is happy with the partial refund. I hadn't sent the item out.

I have never sent a partial refund, I have either fully refunded and told them to keep the item (rarely) or most of the time told them to request a refund through Ebay and only about 1/3 of those people actually do (normally they just disappear). If they repeatedly request the refund but do not go through ebay I block them.

Great video! Always learn something. An idea on preventing returns and negative transactions. As an ebayer since 08’ i block some buyers phishing before buying and with suspect feedback or newer accounts and that has greatly reduced scammers and issues.

I got called a liar today and there's no better feeling than A) finding out that a potential buyer is a nightmare before selling to them and B) blocking their A$$.

I'm the same way. It happened recently. I sold a skiing jacket, youth size. I always check all my items. I even laundered this jacket, and it was in perfect condition. I get a message how the holes to put the gloves thumbs through were falling apart and broken in pieces, and she wouldn't have paid that much for it, if this had been disclosed, blah, blah. I said, " I'm sorry this is happening. Send it back. I will accept the return. " Didn't want to return cause her son still wanted it. Gave me 2 stars. 😆

I would always ask item to be returned. Sales month to month down but up year over year. Was hoping for a better quarter over quarter but that’s not happening. Last year, my 1st quarter was better than its previous 4th quarter.

From my latest purchase, I think I may have an example of a seller’s scam. I bought an item than was only about $6.00. A few days later, I got a message from the seller saying something went wrong with the shipping and it was returned and is no longer deliverable. They said they have no other items like it , so they’ll have to refund me. Please know there were a few postings at time of purchase. I got another message this morning that they’ve refunded my account. 8 hours later and my account still doesn’t have the money in it. Idk what the goal is other than these two things: (1) they hope I won’t notice or pursue my refund and they keep my money; and/or, (2) they regret offering it for so cheap, so they’re reneging. Maybe something else? Their initial message was very long, as if this is a generic message they send out frequently. Also, I did respond to first message and their second message didn’t react to my query. I’m so annoyed because it seems fishy and I wanted the item for a gift. Also, it’s worrisome that maybe they can use my info. somehow. Scammers are scum, I scream and won’t succumb. Thanks for your content and thoughtful vids.

I sold some Tap shoes that were new with extra screws. They were returned because they were too small but they didn't have the screws. I only gave a partial refund because now they were missing the screws.

I agree with you definitely. Ive only has to give a full refund if the post office damaged the package or the item was new and sealed but didn't work. In most cases I can tell if someone just wants that partial and keeps the item. I do my best not to get hassled because like you, I test everything and clean everything, so there is no room for errors or mistakes
