End caps on various Sonicare models often can be released non-destructively, with either an M7 bolt threaded in moderately tight, and pulled out, with the end cap. Or some charger bases have a shape to them that grips the charging port, by twising the brush firmly, it will release the end cap.

Yeah much thanks, just fixed mine, its a different probably newer model but it was exactly that issue, screw in the same spot that came loose holding down that small metal piece. Very happy to have saved money instead of replacing it.

Excellent video Chris, thank you for confirming my early suspicions of the motor 'breaking away' in some way, so its just a screw!?! Impossible to believe that a major corporation like Philips is happy to not rectify this during manufacture like you say, loctite or at least a locking washer, but no they just send out a new one!!! I have had 5 of these replaced by Philips in just 2 years, this is a MAJOR design fault, I believe these new generation hand sets all suffer the same issue and it is just a matter of time, for my experience around 6 months. I have been a loyal Sonicare user for at least 20 years, the older fatter hand sets went on for years, these newer higher velocity hand sets are great but for this stupid design oversight. Staggering.

Thanks! Exactly the same problem here and tightening the screw fixed it. Wonder why they don't put a little loctite on that screw?!

The Phillips Sonicare toothbrush initially has a loose screw, which needs to be tightened to fix it. Next, the gap of the red magnetic strip in the middle of the product narrows, requiring it to be widened. After that, the component of the initially loosened screw breaks. Once the broken part is replaced, it's time to replace the battery.

Just fixed my 5100 after watching your video. To get mine to pop out I had to squeeze on the sides by the bottom as there are retention clips in there. I put a gob of red loctite on ther screw so it shouldn't come loose again. Thanks for your help!!!

I took mine apart and magically there was no screw there. I have bought 5 over the years and always the same thing. Wobbly head! I thought maybe I am pushing on it too hard! NO it was faulty. The vibration from the toothbrush causes the screw to loosen!

Wow! I was about to junk mine because I assumed something in the shaft had broken but now I’m on a mission to get at that freaking screw

Best of luck! If you can get it tightened up its back to working perfectly again. Shame getting to it is so destructive!

Same happened to mine after only 3 months! I did not remove the head often. Has happened before, after a longer period of time. I believe this is a manufacturing defect. Will not buy Phillips again. Not cheap. Not impressed.

I had the same problem. Sadly I though it away. I find most of the time the batteries fault. Blinding lights on brush during charging.

They are great brushes but with weaknesses. Saying that the Philips support has been very good.

Went to use my Sonicare and no power. Was working in the morning and had plenty of charge now dead. Won't charge. No lights. Any ideas?

I could bet you that it has probably gotten wet inside. You could try to open it and dry it out for a few days and try again. Usually the battery is pretty reliable but water getting in is what usually destroys these units.

I have the same problem and am on my third brush in just over two years - Philips replaced them under warranty but for such a simple problem it seems like a complete waste of everyone's time. If the screw was on the outside users could tighten them themselves !

Cheers for the comment. Yup, crazy design. Hopefully when my next one goes (which it will) I can obtain a new replacement.

First one lasted 10 years. Second one 1 year and last one 6 months. The shaft keeps breaking.

Their name is Philips and they can't even properly install a Phillips head screw; it must be intentional.
