Not necessarily so. I’m on my 3rd or 4th Sonicare toothbrush because they simply work the best for me. This last one I’ve had over a year and I am very careful and it has not fallen over or dropped into the sink at all but any machine that vibrates that much must eventually come loose somewhere inside and that’s why I’m trying to fix it.

Excellent video regarding opening the device. I was able to pop out the entire mechanism (after taking out the bottom cap) by deforming the base with the pliers (to disengage the two clips) & gently tapping the metal toothbrush attachment end against a wooden block. My issue was that a screw & its associated pentagonal metallic bushing had come loose so the metal toothbrush attachment end was no longer properly connected to the motor. Once I figured out the proper orientation fir the bushing, replacing the screw did the trick. 10 minute repair time.

Thanks for your video. I've got a HX939B which is really similar to the one you are working on. I can get it apart as you described and I can see the magnet has no space but when I try to separate the battery and circuit board from the coil as you do at 7:56 in your video, I can get the circuit board to pop off so I get access to the second screw. I've tried pushing, pulling, twisting, but it doesn't budge. You're just easily slid off. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

Repaired mine in just 5 minutes, although I had another problem. The vibrating shaft was loose, just fasten a single philips screw in the head assembly and all is good! Thanks for showing us the instructions on how to get in. For those (like myself) with the HX999X series, don't forget to disconnect the ribbon cable, as you may damage the electronics if you don't (I figured that out real fast when trying to push out the assembly from the shell). @benjaminsmekens234410 ай бұрын
@@thecappy Use an adjustable pipe wrench to bend the plastic right above the gold/silver colored insert(squeeze it diagonally). It has a rubber sealing ring around it so don't be too aggressive poking metal objects in. I used the smallest and thinnest flathead screwdriver bit I had (from those electronic repair kits that come with a variety of bits). You can poke it in between the plastic housing and the bottom cap to partly pop it out. Then repeat the process on the other diagonal and it should be out in no time. Don't worry about the housing breaking, it's a hard plastic but can take quite a lot of bending under pressure before it cracks. So I guess you either didn't use enough pressure on the wrench (plastic housing should deform a little while applying pressure), or you didn't use a small object to insert to pop out the bottom insert.
@thecappy10 ай бұрын
@@benjaminsmekens2344 thank you! I figured it out. I thought it was a cap and it’s a plug. I was trying to remove the entire gold bottom. I finally realized once I saw the edge of the plug sticking out.
@gushenkai2 жыл бұрын
You don't need a plier. Just give the bottom part (silver cap) a good alchohol wipe and melt the tip of one or two hot glue sticks, stick to it when it's dry. Pull the stick and the cap will come off easy with no damaging. The worst thing could happen is the silver coating might come off as well, but who cares!

@gushenkai2 жыл бұрын
@@jerrylewis7702 Simple choice - easy but peel off chrome or hard but damage plastic :) AFAIK professional repairers use strong air compressor to blow the cap off, from the needle end. I don't know how to describe and never seen their operation, but my best guess is to cover the tip using some rubber seal and blow air into the gap, so the butt can just come off.

So let me get this straight, the inside component had moved/slid in an upward direction (toward the brush end) because it was dropped and closed/reduced the gap where it didn't work anymore? If that's the case, wouldn't it make sense to leave it alone, as far as disassembly is concerned, and just sharply butt tap the bottom against a hard surface as many times as it takes to get that inside component to slide in the opposite direction that it moved after dropping, (downward), and that will get it back to your original factory spec. gap? It's a rule of physics, what does up, in this case slides up, must slide down, with the help of tapping of course.

5:20 that 2nd part below with the 2 tabs is quite tricky. I used a relatively small flat head screw driver that could slide all the way in, applied pressure to the tip (wood table + point on a washcloth to hold it steady) and released one tab at a time. The trick is really shining a flashlight in there to see the tabs. Those tabs basically require applying pressure to the entire internal pieces to release...they are indeed pushed outward holding it in place so it's like a V shape that needs to be released into a U shape.. Push the entire internal component away from the plastic cover on both sides, listening and feeling carefully for a tab release. Once it's released, you maybe have to apply a little more pressure to the tip (use that washcloth) and slide it out clean. Mine had some water inside... this device is not waterproof for years, but a few drops and it kept turning on throughout the night on its own. Also doing the 2 quick beeps and a long beep on the charger (auto turning on while on the charger). Got it in a bag of rice overnight, hopefully this fixes it. I'll be way more careful to keep it and the base dry. I think water in the plastic base is the problem but damn it gets water every few days because of what falls from the bristles at a minimum. You have to really dry it off every use. That button is still at risk of water penetration after years of use.... design flaw. Some of the metal has rust inside mine too.

It's a rule of physics, what does up, in this case slides up, must slide down, with the help of tapping of course. As far as your water leakage, you may want to look at something along the line of Permatex Clear RTV Silicone Adhesive sealant, the excess is trimmed off after curing, and it creates a waterproof seal by filling in gaps.

When I separate the magnet and coil with my flat-head driver, it wants to come back to meet with the coil, but when you remove the flat-head driver at about 9:17, the magnet does not immediately move back but stays in place, as if waiting for you to insert the shims. I.e. even before you insert the shims, there is something encouraging the magnet to remain in the right place. The magnet seems to be held away from the coil due to a piece of ellipsoidal metal just above it, the apexes of which poke into the space caused by the cockpit-like bulges of both metal plates. I bent these inwards, by gripping them with pliers, causing the base of the plate to bulge outwards, then replaced the two screws. This kept the magnet away from the coil. I reassembled the brush but while there is a noise, the vibration is exceptionally weak. Perhaps I gripped the plates with my pliers too hard. 7:-0 for the innards. Sonic air ? Sony-care
@DakotaBusy Жыл бұрын
Yeah, maybe you bent them inwards too much? Have you gotten better vibrations out of it yet?
@TimothyTakemoto Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I thought it might be that, but when I opened it up again, the magnet was up pressed against the coil. I don't seem to be able to keep them apart. It may be some sort of rotational thing --- that the rotational orientation of the bits just above the magnet is incorrect and so do not catch against the casing. I have bought another second hand toothbrush which I may take apart to compare. @@DakotaBusy

You could try that, but any time you are hitting it against something, I would be worried of doing more damage. I can’t remember now, but the end that it slid towards, could’ve been slightly magnetized. So hitting it to go the other direction could prove to be very hard to do so.

too much space, 1 shim would be enoguh. With too much space your toothbush wont get sonic anymore, it will wibrate to easy to clean good your teath

It's infuruatuing that a simple fix should be this difficult. Built in obscelescence needs outlawing and consumer goods should be designed with the ability to fix by a layperson where possible.

Too bad this doesn't work on all models sure you can get the bottom out but after that the screwdriver 'trick' doesn't actually release the tabs. The manual even says to use a hammer to release the tabs but you have you hit it so much and so hard you'll break it before you can release. Better to just not buy a piece of shit sonicare and get something that is actually repairable

It worked! I forgot to wrap the base with a towel so it’s banged up 🥲 but it works like new…and considering the awful reviews the new sonicare models are getting, I’m satisfied.
