I like the idea of using the metal up pipe. My chiller is built out of a 6ish gal bucket, with all pvc parts, but you've got me thinking of seeing if maybe using metal and making it longer might make a difference. And I'm definitely going to experiment with the cap idea too. 👍

Thanks. I was thinking metal gets colder faster.. Next year I might go bigger and try a trash can.

Yeah, plus it holds temp. I want to try an experiment, but I think the "direct contact" system is always going to chill better than keeping the fog contained in a chiller tube. I'm toying with the idea of changing the output to add ice directly into the tube to get the most/longest chill. Simplest was would be just to stuff the tube with a layer, but I'm sure that could be improved on.

@@blackc1479 I've used leach pipe with frozen water bottles in it..Worked pretty good before this concept.

Interesting design. This is the first version I've seen that has the warm fog forced down through the ice and the out through the bottom. Your video certainly demonstrates that it works great. I just built a fog chiller that does the opposite. Forcing the fog from the bottom up through the ice and then back down through a 2" tube and out the bottom.

I’m researching fog chillers and found this video. This is the first chiller I’ve seen that uses a perforated “cap” at the chiller output, and seeing the difference between the ¼” & ⅛” holes, I’m curious if you have any information on the science behind them? (Or if you could point me to a link where I can learn more). The only explanation I can think of is to provide back pressure and/or to reduce the CFM of fog output?

That's pretty much what's happening. Each cap that I made resulted in different output.

Monty, Thanks for the quick reply. So was this an accidental discovery? Or have you seen this done elsewhere? Any idea why restricting the output by using the ⅛” cap gave a better result? Have you experimented with using foggers with higher or lower CFM output? Sorry for all the questions, but your video just gave me inspiration to dust off my old DIY chiller, cobble up some restrictor caps for it, and see what happens. It works “just ok”, but I was hoping for better so I kinda lost interest and tossed in storage. Thinking about it more to try to understand it better, I can imagine that arresting partial output might cause some of the fog to circulate back through the ice more, reducing the temperature further. I also like the metal piping inside, I believe metal will do a better job to transfer the temperature of the ice better than PVC. (At least that’s what makes sense to me, but I’m no scientist). Thanks for making this video and for the inspiration! Cheers!

@@onstagesolutions947 Yes I did have higher end foggers but they all even my trusted one in the video dead two years ago on the big day. Yes I thought using metal inside would chill a lot faster. I figure the difference in out put by watching a few videos using a garbage bag... this style can also be used in a trash can. This one is a smaller cooler so I want a less wattage like a 700 to 750. My 1000 watt just made my backyard like I was in London. Lol

The pipe that goes up to the top ? Not my design . I like it cause everything fits in one place . The " Y " adds air for a better flow .
