Thank you for this wonderful lesson. The introduction to this song is surely one of the great tension building 'rev ups' in the history of rock. By the time it reaches the resolution of little 'country lick' before the verse begins, it has never failed to bring a smile to my face. It is so gratifying to see the whole song being given this level of meticulous analysis and attention to detail... and you have helped me to play it, thereby fulfilling a dream that I once held as a 13 year old with neither the resources to buy an instrument nor the talent to pick out the notes. once again, thank you.

Adrian, I bought this single at the time, in it's flowery cover, and you would classify it as New Wave. Punk was a kind of Puritanism, but it gathered in it's slipstream lots of musicians who had been already playing and until Punk happened ignored, and Punk gave them an inspiration and an approach to take with their music, namely playing fast and brief and full of energy.

Used to play this several years ago, and am about to do it again, but had forgotten most of it. Thanks for posting this lesson, helps me immensely. Your lessons are great. From an admiring Australian.

Thank you for the excellent lesson. I am one of those who would be grateful if you would transcribe the whole lead part. I'm in my late 60's, returning to the guitar after decades, and I don't pick up things quite as easily as when I was young. This has been one of my favorite songs for 42 years, and I'm excited for the chance to finally learn to play it. Keep up the excellent work. If things like this had been available when I was young, I likely wouldn't have stopped playing for so long.

How can anyone put a dislike against this video! It's a great breakdown of the song and it isn't easy to deduce I know I taught myself to play it I play the lead slightly differently mine being constructed a bit more disjointed, but I'm not a guitar player like you in the video. I cobble things together to get the sound. Great video and I'm sure it will be a god send to people who want to learn to play it as it's all very much back in the song, hard to pick out and most instructors show the easy bits of it and then basically say ' now your on your own' on the lead piece.

Thanks again Adrian, the penny just dropped about the minor - major pentatonic shapes. One starts after the other with pattern 1 and I assume that rule follows through with all the other patterns. Now its easy to find the major pentatonic scales from the minor shapes that I already know. This is a huge step forward for me with lots doors opening, thanks man.
