Casio continues to release new "G-Shock Squares" based on the original form factor of the first G-Shock from 1983. The newest watch in my collection continues this tradition with a brand new module, number 3540. This module operates exactly the same way as other, recent modules for G-Shock Squares which have Tough Solar, Multiband 6 and Bluetooth connectivity with a Smart Phone or Tablet. (It is believed that the only difference between this new module and previous non-STN modules is that the Bluetooth chip has been updated.) This watch uses the Casio Watches app for that Smart Phone link. The app allows users to enjoy "Atomic Time" synchronization even in areas where Multiband 6 radio reception is not available or isn't reliable. The app is also useful for setting everyday functions like the alarms, time zones, reminders and other settings. With most settings, you have the option of making adjustments on the watch without the app or with the app connected. For some settings, it seems easier and faster to use the app. Also, the app will update the time on the watch in a matter of a few seconds whereas Multiband 6 might take a few minutes.
The set-up and functions of this GW-B5600 are the same as with other variations of this model AND the same as with the various versions of the GMWB5000 watch from Casio (AKA the G-Shock Squares with metal cases and bracelets). So, no matter which of these Solar/Multiband/Bluetooth watches you buy, you can follow my guide in order to use your watch.
This particular version of the GW-B5600 is part of a Charles Darwin collection, with support for the preservation of the Galapagos Islands. The watch is this video features a finch theme on the outside and in the backlight. There are two other versions with a Galapagos theme.

The B5600 series is a godsend for those of us outside of ‘MultiBand 6’ tower range. It allows us to still have perfectly accurate time, sent from our phone. One of my favourites for this very reason 🤩👌 Great video, Greg! 🙏

Great info. 2 things to add- there is a quick time set via bluetooth by pressing the bottom-right button, it is very fast. Also, it keeps in the app a history of locations of the time-set via BT.

I wish G shock would always do 3 letter days on all displays, it’s so much better to read MON TUE WED etc, on this watch there is easily enough space for the 3rd letter.

Wish these would be less similar to the base models and each other with a black bezel and strap. I think the subdued colors of the boxes would have been great.

I live on my sailboat traveling the Caribbean making KZbin videos. So a good watch is perfect. Iv got Rolex down to Ocean Crawler. I ended up buying a GWX 5600 for the tide and moon phases. The original black shiny one. I put a tempered glass screen protector a bul bar and converted it to a nato strap. And omg its all i need its usfull i sync it with a app that transmits the signal works perfect. I wished i thought of g shock when i started doing this.

My naive understanding is that radio watches take so long to sync on WWVB radio because the radio signal is really low bit rate so it takes 60 seconds to broadcast the full time signal (hour, minute, second, date etc.). If the watch starts syncing in the middle of that 60 second window then it's got to wait for the start of the next signal to sync, so potentially almost 2 minutes, and that's assuming the watch succeeds in getting that full minute of radio signal successfully.
@GoodTimekeeper
@GoodTimekeeper 2 ай бұрын
My understanding is the same. Since these Multiband 6 watches set themselves at night while I am asleep, the fact that they take a few minutes doesn’t bother me. But it’s also fun to see them set themselves quickly with the app. And, I admit, sometimes I mess up all of the settings on purpose just so that I can watch everything get corrected in an instant.

Sounds sound. It does add to my amazement when my 5610 caught a signal, and updated in South America. Once in the Ecuadorian Amazon, next on the Pacific coast, and finally in the mountains of Colombia!

We don't know what Casio's algorithm is, but firmware could easily copy the message starting anywhere in the frame and then after the sync pulse rotate the data into the proper position, and compensate for part of one minute and part of another. The time increments a minute between frames but that is easy to adjust for. The bigger problem is there is no checksum to verify the data is correct. So the firmware may need to listen to another minute and cross check both minutes to insure it is really hearing the proper signal and not just noise.

That's a nice Square. I like the Bluetooth connection so long as the watch can function independently without it too.

@@damyr Why would anyone turn off MB6? It doesn’t drain your battery and works effortlessly…
@damyr
@damyr 2 ай бұрын
@@e28forever30 It doesn't drain the battery per se, but it probably takes a toll on it, in the long run. Tho, the biggest reason is that I don't need the MB6. I've calculated how much time my watch loses per month (1 sec), then I wind it up forward for 6 seconds, and after 6 months, it comes down exactly at 0. And 6 seconds is really not a significant amount of time. As a matter of fact, I'm thinking of making it 12 sec, so I'd sync the watch only once per year, on the New year's day. I've been doing that for 3 years now, and it works flawlessly. Btw, the watch takes up 80% share of my wrist time. I've bought it to wear it, not to keep it on a shelf.

Yeah the Bluetooth thing is handy if the radio sig is weak. Thing is the app sync can be out by 0 to 1 sec (Internet delay). The time.gov page actually tells you what you're off by, as you probably knew anyway. 😮

I'm grabbing a solar digital seiko (Prospex Super Runners) that gives the battery charge 1-10 and also a rating of the current amount of solar energy being received 1-10. Under $100 with shipping coming from Japan, maybe a solar meter for you 😂?

No Apple Watch will ever look as great as a G Shock square, good luck having to charge it every day, who wants a mini iPhone on their wrist anyway, a G shock has everything you need in a watch, a phone for everything else.

Hmm. I already have a smart phone, I don't really have a need for another smart phone I wear on my wrist which does everything my smart phone does except worse. And gives me another Li-ion battery I have to plug in amd charge everyday. Which is obsolete in 2-3 years and in a landfill in 5. I just want my watch to tell me the time, give me access to a stopwatch and timer, etc. These nicer gshocks also set themselves to NIST, never need charging, basically never even need a battery, never have to really even think about it. They're totally different concepts, but I think your deragotory comment kinda misses the point of these watches - they're actual watches, not tiny l'il baby smartphones.
