Lately, we've been dealing with a lot of emesis (fancy medical term for puking) in our household. After much discussion with our son's medical team, it was decided he needed an upper endoscopy to rule out any serious abnormalities. This is a one day procedure, and not too scary. Although, having your child put under is always really hard. Unfortunately, this is not our first time dealing with surgeries for our precious little one... but it never gets easier.
Because he is on dialysis, we needed to be admitted the night before for IV fluids. With a procedure like this, patients are what is called "NPO" so no food. Typically this isn't an issue, but Sully tends to get dehydrated quickly. Being dehydrated and receiving anesthesia is not wise, so we stayed the night at the request of his kidney doctor (nephrologist).
If you have ever wondered what a night in a children's hospital looks like, this video is for you. We are patients at a local hospital called Seattle Children's Hospital --- they provide phenomenal care for our kiddo! It is crazy how one night can feel like a whole year in a setting like this. Alarms, pokes and constant interruptions make for a memorable experience every time.
At the end of this video we share the update on what the GI doctors found, and our plans moving forward to treat Sully' symptoms. We are praying this is a turning point for him on this jounrey!
As always, thank you for watching!
