I've got to say I've watched many how to videos and give a lot of respect to yours! I'm about to release a few of my own and...not to sound cocky..but am very picky about professionalism in repairs....especially if you're teaching others. Simple things like you disconnecting battery before continuing and giving credit to iPad Rehab when it's due. Nothing but respect and a job more than well done my friend!! Keep it up!!

Thank you! Comments like these will defiantly help keep me going and also, keep me upgrading equipment for this channel. :) As far as giving credit to iPad Rehab - They deserve way more credit than just this repair for sure. Jessa has played a huge role in the direction of our business and family. I've always had a background in electronics repair but would have never thought to put this newer stuff under a microscope and keep working on it. I was like many others that thought if the board had a problem, you replaced the board.

Just discovered you because YT recommended you to me for watching so many Louis Rossmann and iPad Rehab videos. I'll definitely be a regular viewer now. Not in the repair shop business, but I love to learn about this technology, learn about its inner workings, and get a different perspective (usually I deal in the software world). Nice camera work and hoping you have continued success in your business and YT career :) You've got a subscribe from me! BTW, Jessa seems to have recently subscribed to your channel from the iPad Rehab channel; that might be getting you a significant influx of new viewers ;D

Thank you! This is going to be a really tough week with repairs but I'm still planning some KZbin time. I'll be uploading as much as I can but I gotta be sure to get the work done and spend time with family too. I have some unique plans in the works for this channel that I'm really excited about but it's gonna take some time. It will definitely be interesting. :)

Plugged in my 6 Plus when it seemed a bit warm and came back to disconnect a dead phone. I tested the LCD on another 6 plus, works fine. I changed the charging port/headphone jack after reading that that can be an issue, no luck. This leads me to believe it's something on the logic board. Do you think that this is the best step to follow? Anything else that would go bad with the logic board? Thanks for the great video. Very well done.
@ststele8 жыл бұрын
+Christopher Greene thanks :) I'm betting a capacitor shorted to ground on the logic board but there's other things it could be. It sounds like you've definitely narrowed it down to the board. Sorry, wish I had better news. It probably would be a fairly easy fix for a microsoldering shop though.

good work and informations. after replacing U2 ic phone charges and everything's all ok but board gets really hot. do you know what causes this? thanks Jason
@nealdunn85627 жыл бұрын
Have you ever consider a CNC grinding machine? It grinds the chip off and just leaves the motherboard pads exposed. No damage done to the board, just the chip turns into dust. Also, the machine has to be programed not to cut threw the board. It's pretty easy to do after a few trys

Hey good man, if you can reply I would be grateful - I had a tough time getting my meson off, i had to go up to 400 deg. C and it still barely came out. Didn`t have the best tip for the heat gun, maybe that`s why. Regardless, while cleaning the pads where the IC was located, one of the pads came off.. I Any way to fix this? Im here in Las Cruces, Reflowed Mason chip and works great. Bannged it around a few times and keeps working great. Would you suggest always replacing even thow reflows have worked great for me? I havent had returned phones after reflow. Have you?
@ststele8 жыл бұрын
+Octavio Chaidez Jr reflowing will fix some of them but not all. There's a MUCH higher probability of coming back. When I first seen this problem it was on my wife's phone and reflowing fixed it for good as far as I know. She traded the phone off 6 months or so later but never had problems. Trying to reflow them for the general public proved to be a much different story though. The return rate was ridiculous and I don't like stuff coming back so I never just reflow them anymore.

+Octavio Chaidez Jr just realized I didn't actually answer your question. Lol Yes - 3 out of 5 was coming back and I quit reflowing.

really good video and good repair .. good job really ... what is the temperature that u r using and do u preheat the board ... i have made an experiment with one board of ipad and i preheated it for 2 min at 200C and after that raised the temperature to 450C for 1 minute ( i heated the nand IC ) and after that i just waited to cool down and started the ipad and it worked without any damage ... i have another boards for practice and i will keep experiment because sometime when u hurry in removing the IC because u think that u will burn the logic board and in the hurry sometimes u loose pads ... so could u please tell what is your method for desoldering NAND IC or IC like this one in the video ... the time in your video for removing is ~25sec maybe u r using around 400C ?
@ststele8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment :) You're pretty close! I'm at 380C in this video. I've adjusted a bit and now do this repair at 375C and it's helped a bit to not have secondary issues to deal with afterwards. I'm not preheating other than bringing the temp of the board up relatively slow (heat spreads FAST through these boards so not that slow) then really torching the chip I'm working on. I'd be scared to heat the whole board to 200C - If I let them get to 170C shields start falling off. There's a lot of under-filled ICs on these and solder that is cased in under-fill swells and pops out the sides so it must be doing the same underneath between the balls too. I've not messed with NAND yet :)
@yordanhristov56448 жыл бұрын
thank u buddy for the reply i will post when i make an experiment with iclous boards ... will try different temps of heatinf the ICs so we can see at what temp they are out of order and what temp/time is safe .. will keep practicing ... my email is yordanhristoc1987@gmail.com if u like text me there so we not spam here

Iv just reballed meson and cumulus and never had a problem with meson but pulled the reset pad on the far right. Before when iv done this with the backlight ic etc Iv just ran a wire but thought I'd try something different today and dug a pad and trace from a donor board, tinned it up and the remains of the old trace and soldered them together and then placed the chip as normal, seemed to work as no more grey bars !. Iv changed cumulus on the 5c and 5s and never had a problem with pads, but like you the 6 plus pads just seem to be poorly stuck to the board.
@ststele8 жыл бұрын
That's some nice work to transplant a pad like that! :) The iPhone 6+ pads are the worst I've ever seen.. not sure why they're so much more brittle than almost every other board.
@alexz818 жыл бұрын
Hi ! Great video ! I just have a question on where exactly did you run the jumpers to ? Also Where can I buy that tiny jumper wire and what did you do to it when you were heating it with soldering iron on the shield there (tinning?)? ))) I have repair shop in MA, but currently staying away from these kind of repairs...don't have the right tools. Also is it really worth investing into ? I was considering to get into the screen refurbishment instead... I know a lot of questions here, but I would really appreciate the answers.
@ststele8 жыл бұрын
I ran the ground jumper directly to the ground plane on the board. The other missing pad got jumpered to the trace next to it. At 30:13 there is a close up view that might be a little easier to see. The wire I'm using is wire harvested from iPhone ear speakers and vibrator motors. It's magnet wire so it has a clear coating over it making it non-conductive.. I used the shield for something to lay the wire on while I burned that coating off and tinned the copper.

keep the good working Jason :) o me question did you use the solder balls that came on the New touch ic ? or did you reball the New touch ic ?
@ststele7 жыл бұрын
Thank you :) I normally use the balls the come on the IC. Although sometimes I've been tempted to reball them just to see if it would change the return rate. I'm having really good success with them as long as when you look at the new ICs under the microscope they are in-fact new and not all chipped away, scratched up and reballed.

Hi thanks for your video. I own a cell phone repair shop. I was wondering where do you get your flux and flux name. Also where do you purchase your chip? Whats the percent failures on these chips. Thanks for your time.
@ststele8 жыл бұрын
The flux I use the most is Chipquik SMD4300TF10 - I buy it at Microcenter here locally. I bet All-Spec sells it though. The chips I try to buy from aliexpress but there's no reasonable way for me to keep them in stock ordering from China (sometimes they're weeks or months late) so I buy them from www.microsolderingsupply.com There is a defect rate. Not sure how high but sometimes I will have one area of the screen that doesn't register touch and it's always the same area.. When I see that, I know it's a defective Meson IC.

A job well 👍🙂🐻. Since breaking my neck four years ago, I am no longer able to perform delicate board repairs like this. Your videos are excellent and I am envious of your bench equipment 😎. I'm thinking about obtaining a microscope instead of using my 40 year old lighted magnifying glass .😇. My 6 plus has no display. I always place it on a stand and place the magnetic charging near the charge port before retiring each night. Got up Saturday morning, removed the charging cable, and noticed that the display was not working. I snapped the charging cable to the charging port and heard the normal sounds but not see the normal display. I thought the brightness level was turned all the way down so I brought the display upclose and thought I could see a Very faint raster While thinking how I could get to the settings menu, I heard the notification alert as well as feeling the vibration. I looked on the net and tried several different ways to force the display to come up. I removed the magnetic lightning port adapter and plugged in the charging cable attached to my pc. The monitor came up as usual indicating the phone was locked so I pressed the home button to unlock the phone so I could back it up. I was unable to do so and I noticed that I was no Longer hearing anything from the phone so I that the battery was somehow too low so I put the phone on the Apple charger for the remaining day. The next day I still had no response to unlock the phone. I'm now thinking that the battery was too low to take a charge so I put the phone on a high rate of change. That also proved to be disappointing. I don't remember ever replacing the battery in this phone so I got online to find and order a OEM battery. I ran across one of your videos in the process and after watching two of them, I realized that I probably should send it in for repairs. The new battery should be in this week. I will replace the battery if the new one is the same OEM as it was advertised to be. If it isn't, I will plug it in and charge it to see if the display is functional before sending it in. Thank you for the excellent videos and inspiration! JJ💡👍🙂🐻

This seems to be the puzzle everyone is trying to solve. I've started replacing cumulus and meson on every board and flooding the pads with plenty of leaded solder to be sure they all shine and look the same. I also make sure to flux the caps between the two ICs and be sure they float at some point during the repair. Our returns have went down by a lot since I stared doing that. There are some phones that will come back no matter what you do though.

Can you please explain what's the issue people having with their phone. On my iPhone I have to twist it from the top right corner In order for the touchscreen to work. Is that what your talking about that you can fix?
@ststele8 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you are describing touch disease. Especially if you ever see the screen flash, flicker or show the grey bars from the top. If you are still using the original Apple screen and don't see grey bars, it could be only the screen. I have been running into a LOT of original iPhone 6 plus screens that have never been replaced with touch problems that are affected by slight bending. It makes it seem like "Touch Disease" and it's really just the screen. It is most likely the chip level problem though - Touch IC failure or "Touch Disease". That's what I'm fixing in this video.
@josuecorona26078 жыл бұрын

It can resurface.. Usually in the form of gray bars. I've seen quite a few original Apple 6+ screens with touch issues as well when flexed. May want to be absolutely sure it's not the screen. It's most likely the ICs but I've been trolled by defective screens too.

Sounds like too high of air flow. After a while you get the feel for it. The air has to blow pretty hard to blow things off but surface tension will hold things in place really good when the air is not too high. Thank you for watching :)

are you sametime in wherever logic board;if you want make you job good .firts need cover the other ic.maybe you are burning some elements,diodes,resistors or more.
@ststele8 жыл бұрын
The surrounding components really won't be bothered or "burnt" by the amount of heat it takes to melt the solder under these chips. I've found when covering the surrounding areas you wind up using much more heat to get the job done because you have to raise the temperature of the board in a pretty big area to the point of melting solder anyways. The key is to watch very closely under microscope so you can see where your heat is and where the solder is melting. I've found this method much less risky than tape or shielding because you will use way less heat and don't have the risk of tape or shielding moving adjacent components when they melt. I used to shield the heck out of it.. now I don't :) I will shield if there is under fill close by. The WiFi IC is a mile away in this case though.
@ststele8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment though :) I may try some shielding to get rid of some of the common issues I've been running into on the other side of the board though. Components on the other side can melt and their rubber overfill coating lifts them off the board.

i have problem ..my touch is working,motherboard showing picture but on both phones same problem if i change motherboards touches dont react and on other motherboard react ..what could be problem?

Hmmm.. hard to say on that one. If it's an iPhone 6+, touch issues are most likely caused by the board. If it is original Apple screen then there is a decent chance that it is the screen as well.

Sorry for the delay. I could give it a try, however, there's a good chance I may fail or decide the damage is too bad. www.ststele.com/mail-in

It's typical isn't it.. Point the camera at something that contains 0603 or smaller and components and pads will literally jump off the PCB :)

+STS Telecom I saw people criticize you recoder, I got something to say about that. don't press attention them because they only can talk but they don't encourage to make a video in other hands nobody send you some money to buy a professional camera, and people don't understand how hard is the repair life, when you start fixing devices repairers use parts of the money to buy new equipment to do best professional job and the goods tool cost a least $500 also $1000. at the end of the day the you took money of you pocket. keep on your job man. GOD bless you

Dude love your job and how you underline other repair places overheat the boards and do sloppy fixes I would love to send it to you then but your prices are ridiculous for iPhone 5s touch fix is 125??? The 5s i can get them used working for 90$-140 why would I pay 120 to fix one lol do 60$ plus return shipping which it shouldnt be more than four bucks

Trust me, I don't want to deal with the underfilled touch ICs on a 5S. When possible, I price services with the value of the device in mind but when you start talking a job that will take hours for a phone that's worth $100 bucks.. people would only send that stuff for data recovery only. There's no way I could do a 5S touch IC job for less because it can consume half the day and I have a mountain of routine repairs building up behind me. Sorry!
