OMG - you had me LOL’ing when you mentioned being in bed by 930pm; that’s ME! I have to be in bed by 930 so I have an hour or so for reading and falling asleep 😴 I woke up this morning and HAD to cast on a hat today! And, I was browsing my stash and found a cake of yarn just waiting to become something! So now, I’m knitting away on a pattern I have saved for about 4yrs (pattern is the Kolsch by Anushka Tay). I think sometimes it’s easier to have someone other than Mom or Dad teach kids stuff - once they grasp the basics then we can do it together and help as needed. That is such a special and cute pin - hedgehog reading under a mushroom! You a such a great Mom! I appreciate that you share these things with everyone, I wish I had a friend like you way back when I was guiding my kids - I was the patient/understanding and listening parent; my partner was more of the old fashioned “this is how it is” type so a lot of the times I would have to help him see that there’s a grey space in how to raise kids - AND every kid is so different! Have a wonderful weekend 🎉😊

Kaffe Fasset brought art to knitting in the 80s. His books from that time are wonderful and if you haven’t ever looked through the books glorious knits or Glorious Color, I’d urge you to do so. He created fades and mixed colors and textures of yarn together and designed beautiful garments. And ugh. I’m knitting a sweater for my husband and I’m stopping every few inches to make sure it’s what he wants. He asked for the sweater, but if it doesn’t fit well I know he won’t wear it. Ripping back is not an option lol.

Hi Leena, If you’re interested in Kaffe Fassett Fruity Knitting episodes 116 & 117 were about him. It was so interesting it took 2 episodes. Loved catching up with you! Thank you for sharing all that you do. ❤

I’m here for the shawl progress! It will be beautiful. 9pm for an away game it nutso, like these are students who need to do homework, shower, be in bed a reasonable time, their moms need to be in bed at a reasonable time! Ick. Sometimes I am glad Annalie is not a sporty gal 😂 Happy birthday to your sweet daughter- double digits 😢 I am sure she felt very special and loved as I know you must make her feel everyday. I’m jealous she learned to knit- that’s amazing! My daughter is very artistic but zero interest in knitting/sewing/crochet etc. I mean come on! Now you have gift ideas for her, you can knit together and do knitty stuff! Amazing ❤❤❤❤ We have listened to that podcast! I love the voices. It’s so creative and I might love it more than a grown has a right to 😂

Beautiful baby blanket Leena! I think it is just perfect. Those suggestions for shawls are right up my alley! I still have yarn for the pressed flower shawl, which I might do the cardigan instead. Have you made that? I can’t remember. I feel the struggle of letting those we love feel the discomfort during difficult situations in order to grow. My kids are parents now and I have grandkids so it is compounded.😮. That is exactly the reason for focusing on yourself with your knitting to create space and breathe. 🥰😘

I’m so glad you talked about your sleeve issue. I’m knitting the Kallias cardi by Isabell Kraemer. I should have knit bigger size. My gauge was off, did the math & thought I should knit 2nd size. Well math was wrong so have been making adjustments as I go. My sleeve was too small but I already knit 6”. I just went ahead & frogged my sleeve to make it wider. It was either that or give my cardi as a gift. I know it’s worth the effort to make it mine! Christina 😊

LOL! You crack me up about that sweater! Hilarious! It looks perfect, I'm sure he's going to love wearing it. Love the baby blanket, all the gorgeous color. I'm taking a break from long projects, I've been knitting dishcloths & towels, that's really short term. But I'm been gifting them to friends and family. And I'm learning new stitches like the Linen Stitch & Basketweave & Mosaic. Your quilted squares are beautiful. You're using Rowan Felted Tweed & Kaffe Fassett has designed so many things using that yarn. Have you ever heard of Kaffe Fassett? He published a book in the 80's called Glorious Knits, and he's designed knitwear for Rowan for years. His use of color is glorious! I've never tried intarsia bit his sweaters really make me want to.

I love short projects too!! Which is new for me. I’m super into hats-its as close to instant gratification as you can get with knitting! Yes I need to dive into Kaffe Fassett a bit more! He seems like a precursor to Stephen West.
@sc00badive Жыл бұрын
It would be interesting to ask Stephen if Kaffe had an influence on him. I'm addicted to his colors. I have no desire to quilt, but his fabrics are GORGEOUS! His needlepoint chairs are masterpieces. Everything else looks plain beside it.@@AnotherKnittingPod

I've been a quilter since I was 19...there is a quilting tradition to leave a mistake in your work, even on purpose, to show you are humble, and not striving for perfection (maybe originated with the Amish?). Quilters are very aware of Kaffe (kayf) Fassett, please Google images of his fabric lines...you would love them. My sister once asked me for a quilt to raffle to make money for entertainment in her nursing home (she was in advanced stages of MS). I did make one with Kaffe fabrics...and they thought it too beautiful to raffle, and asked me if they could use it as a "dignity quilt"...this is used to cover a resident who is being taken away in a body bag on a stretcher when they've died. I was honoured. Linda said she hoped it was still there when it was her turn...and it was used when she died last year 😔 I've never tried Rowan Felted Tweed, but I do have some for the Calypso sweater, and will use the colour-changing one for the yoke ❤

I'm a Boomer. My kids are Millennials. We were the older parents. Most of my kids' friends' parents are Gen X. My kids came up in the "Everybody gets a trophy" time, which my husband and I hated. We had to make a real effort so that our kids understood that life doesn't hand you trophies just because you participate. Sometimes you lose and that's ok. Losing also teaches valuable life lessons. Some of the things I hear about how some of their classmates have not adjusted well to adulthood is sad - I attribute it directly to that participation trophy attitude. We have to give our kids the skills to handle both the ups and downs that life will throw at them. I'm also a retired teacher (35 years). Contrary to current belief, we are human. Your son's interaction with his teacher was unfortunate. Hopefully, that isn't this teacher's attitude all the time. It is a rough situation for the moment, but your son learned a valuable lesson for that day when his boss is being a jerk. Thank you for giving his teacher the benefit of the doubt.

Hah! You just mentioned Kaffe. Unbelievable! It's pronounced Cayffe 1 syllable, long A. I'm knitting on my Half & Half Triangles Wrap, I'm still on the 1st triangle. I have 167 stitches to wrap before I move on to the 2nd color. What is your Ravelry handle? Mine is Djarr3tt. Checkout Kaffe's Jaunty Weave Cushion design, the colors are so fun but the price tag really puts the brakes on. 19 colors adds up to over $200 of Felted Tweed. I even cut back on the number of colors customizing it for home but it's still an investment. Your leftovers are perfect for the Jaunty Weave Cushion. Also when I look at the pattern the practicalities really slow me down. When you create a bobbin for each color hanging off your needle how much do you put on the bobbin so you don't waste that expensive yarn?

Yay! I used a strand of La Bien Aimee in their merino singles, held together with some Shibui mohair. Both were in my stash.
