Thanks for watching!
Thank you watching my knitting podcast! I’m so happy you’re here. Please leave me a comment or send me a note!
Here’s what we chatted about:
1) What I’m wearing: Contrast Racerbra by Jessie Maed Designs, in HHF DK in Piggybank
2) Garter Glide Tee by James N Watts
This has not been my favorite knit, I’m sorry to say! It’s definitely in the miss column.
I knit it in Farmers Daughter Fibers Foxy Lady base in Meet Me in Atlantic City.
3) May Be the Lily Tank by Camille K
I used Scheepjes Catona mercerized cotton yarn. This was also in the miss column.
I found the cast-on very fussy, and the body didn’t hold much fun either.
4) Nightshift Shawl by Andrea Mowry
I have loved this piece! I can’t wait til its cool enough to wear it.
All the yarn I used is Spincycle.
The colors I used in the foreground include: Love Spell, Deep Bump, Salty Dog.
The background colors include: Ghost Ranch, Shades of Earth, Melancholia, Dream World, and Opia.
5) Book Club Cardigan by Sari Nordlund
I am beyond excited to knit this cabled cardigan!
I am using Cascade 220 Non-Superwash in the colorway Copper Heather.

Hi Leena! I love your podcasts so much and especially enjoyed this one because I just pulled out all my languishing WIPs last weekend and realized that life is too short to continue working on something I don't like or don't see myself wearing! Also, I found a couple of things that I really want to finish, and I don't recall why I put them in "time out". Thank you for being so inspiring and fun to spend time with! Hugs from Texas! ♥

I live in Berkeley, where we don’t really get extreme temperature changes through the seasons. So I just knit what I want all through the year. Most of the time, summer knits don’t tempt me, and I love woolly wools, so I’m usually knitting sweaters and cardigans. 😊

Thanks for another enjoyable pod. I wanted to share a pattern that I just discovered that has blown me away with its beautiful design and back story, and I feel that it might fit your aesthetic. It's called Braille Shawl, designed by Irene Lea. It features slipped stitch designs and a quotation in braille on the border. I don't know how it has been kept under the radar for so long.

If you want a great non SW 100% wool that feels and looks great, try Knit Picks Simply Wool. I'm using it right now to knit my husband an all over cabled pullover and it feels amazing. The yarn is worsted spun and the cables just pop. I'm in love!!

Ah, Linen Quill! It’s quite close to the perfect yarn. I wish they still made it in the worsted weight. So curious what color you are using!

I feel the same way about some designers- I want to love their patterns and want to be that person…but it just doesn’t click. That book club cardigan! 😍😍😍 it’s going to be so good. If you get cooler weather send it east- it’s been like 90 and 80% humidity and just so gross. Ready for fall! Diane from the island lamb knits a lot of cabled sweaters, and I feel like she has also used cascade. ❤

Would recommend seaming with a crochet hook if you're not feeling mattress stitch! I've found it to be much less fussy and more pleasant!

Hi Jasmyne! I actually used to do this as well, but I felt still feel like mattress tends to be more invisible. It’s possible that I don’t have the exact right technique though. I will look into it, as I would do anything not to mattress stitch!!

I had the same thing with James’ patterns too. I love his aesthetic and I have done a couple and then the dappled lace raglan. It killed me. I could not get the beginning and nobody else seemed to have huge issues, and I have never been so confounded. I finally got it, finished it and will wear it, but it killed me. That beginning. I feel your pain. And I am a linen quill fan too.

I’m glad I’m not the only one! They are well-written patterns, I don’t know why they end up being so painful!

@@AnotherKnittingPod I think some people’s brains just work differently than others and with certain pattern writers you just click and others you just don’t. I always want to learn more and when something is not working I will push till I figure it out and finish it, but I sometimes wonder if I should just walk away. I never do. It’s like I always finish the book, even if I throw it across the room in the end. That was Verity. I hope you have not read it. Anyway, my point is will I always think about the pain of the dappled lace raglan, because if so I should probably gift it. To someone I dislike.

great episode Leena. Thank you for being real and honest about your projects. I feel the same way when you cast on a projects and the yo realized it's not making you happy. I do not enjoy knitting with cotton i think it even make my hands tired. Have you tried Cotton merino from Knitting for Olive? I would love to try it and see if the blend i good on my hand and texture of the fabric.

Hi Toni! I have not tried the cotton Merino from Knitting for Olive…I’m sure its lovely though. I guess I just don’t see too much of a reason to both with cotton. I do want to find a linen blend to try though…its hard when you love the aliveness of animal fibers.

I wonder if the book is God of the Woods? I just heard about this one yesterday...I think I'll give it a try. I am working on the Joni by Natasja Hornby, and really enjoying it. I haven't worked much with Linen Quill. I do have 3 skeins in a bright pink. I should really find a pattern to spark my interest into using it 🤔

Not sure if someone asked, but do you have a link to the provisional cast on with a barber cord? I’ve seen/heard that technique but can’t seem to find a great video. I love ❤that approach to bottom up sweaters, not sure why designers don’t include that in their patterns??
