Another Look at Chain Punching for Safe Wing Chun Practice. Part 2 of 3
Lat Sau is a "nose to Nose" concept and here we begin with a sample of a ground fighting positiion. I use my unrained student just for a perspective. The chainpunching does change into some specific anti-grappling methods once the student has more time under load.
Protective gear on the person has a change on the training method, so wing chun should be attempting to minimive and eliminate gloves and other protective equipment just like Judo recognized. But we are a boxing art, we srike eachother so chi has been developed for strikes. A thin bit of padding on the hands, shins, and a cup are all tha tis needed for chest boxing, but a mouth guard is required too, as we do end up hitting the face and head often as we learn.
Lat Sau drill is a matched pairing of forces, achieving a wonderful loaded middle ground. But it is spring loaded, and if an enemty attacks a WT should be unleashe dto spring to real targets. He hit the wall bag hard for that energy, which we did before filming this with my son, and then we see how he interects with freedom andn obstruction using his punches.
My son has very little training in class, but I have trained him by chsin punching him his whole life. He has had less than 10 training sessions in Lat Sau with a friend of his. I compare the forward pressure of his beginner chain punch energy and our long trained forward pressure.
There are 3 parts to this set.
1) Forward Energy
2) Get the Motor Running
3) Solo Explosive Stepping with Punches
