How To Video showing a not-so-simple modification to a scroll saw for effective dust collection. This Delta 40-530 Scroll Saw proved more difficult to modify for dust collection. This is a more complicated way of solving the problem but it works very very well. This method requires a bit stronger shopvac or dust collector moving a larger volume of air.

I just purchased this same saw for $40. Happy with it - but I've been experiencing some of the same problems you mentioned in the video. Very appreciative that you made this and thanks for the walk-through. I'll be modifying mine similarly.

Ron, you had a great idea for your saw. It looks great and seems to operate even better. Good Job.

Ron before seeing your video, I had decided that there is no working dust collecting system for a scroll saw. You have proven that one can be built. I have my EX- 30 and love it but I just put up with the dust.

+Daniel Choate I modified my Excalibur 16 for dust collection but have mixed feelings about its functionality. The newer Excalibur scroll saws have a table with a circumferential series of holes around the blade and a plastic connection on the bottom of the table for a shopvac. I have been considering drilling my table as the new ones are and attaching the shopvac connection. I also want to sand off the powder coat from the top of the table as it has become a mess. Bottom line is scroll saws are always going to make dust... we just need to catch as much as possible. I wear a dust mask whenever I'm at the scroll saw.

If you have the time to make this it would be the best way to collect dust. If Ron made one for you it would cost four bucks in parts/material and two hundred in time. Good solution.

Of all the tools in my shop that I would bother to add dust control to, the scroll saw ranks just ahead of adding dust collection to a dust collector! I love my DeWalt saw, but that Delta is a great little saw.

Yet another inspiration from RW. I've a different model of Scroll Saw and this video has the wheels turning in my head. I think I can heat and bend a 1/2 inch PVC pipe around the perimeter of the table and then cut slots in the pipe with my Dremel tool. If silicon sticks to PVC then this could be an easy way to collect that fine dust that I currently push off onto the bench top and then later vacuum with my new Walters-Big Fat Tony Model Cyclone. (can I call it the Big Fat - Walters Model ??)

Why don't you just get a good scroll saw? I've got one of those and I built a special weighted base to dampen the vibration. It worked but still was a bear to work with. Then I got a Hegner. Worked very well but expensive. The saw that I think really works well for the price is one made by DeWalt. The best I have if price is no object is the ECLIPSE. It is a hand made wonder and has wonderful engineering.

Do a Google search for Delta 40-530 and look for the Parts List & Diagram or follow this link www.ereplacementparts.com/delta-40530-type-scroll-saw-parts-c-3275_3505_14021.html The connecting rod on some of these saws was made of plastic. The Delta part number for the bearing (2 required) 1341439 and they want $26 to $30 each (way too expensive). You will probably need to figure out an alternative installation.

Yes that is what i am doing, but i couldn't find a picture where i can see the complete mechanism because in my case i dont have the connecting rod, the bearings, the retainer and a little bushing, all of them of this section. I just want to see how look a complete scroll saw like yours. if you have time in any moment i will apreciate if you can give me some photos for give me an idea of what i need to do. thanks
