Be careful with your argument about the specifics of genetic damage with 1st cousin marriages. It's definitely a problem, but it's not much of a problem at all providing it's not endemic. The result of a reasonably isolated incident of 1st cousin marriage will absolutely not result in deformed children. I agree with everything else you said.
