My all-time favorite Doobies song. Great memories from the spring of '74. A junior in high school with the babes with their long hair, bell bottoms, shortie tops (Diane S. - you drove all us guys nuts.). The girls were hot and the music rocked. Oh,.... to go back and do it all again.

I haven't heard this song for well over 10 years. When I got into my car it came on just as it started and amazingly it brought me back to when I was 19 and had my whole life ahead of me. I really felt like I was in a time machine. I could remember when I first heard it where I was and who I was with. Amazing what a song can do.

I thank you for posting. I'm 71 (yoa) & just absolutely love the music of the 1970's - many, many a memory of when I was a young man with no aches or pains & was able to do whatever it was I wanted to do. My motto now is - you're only young once but you can stay immature indefinitely :-) & I try my best to do that. Remember to THRIVE - just don't exist. So many GREAT bands & songs from that era.

I am ready to go Pauline especially after heartbreaks in life ... I heard this song over and over in 1974. Did not have the wisdom then to know what a great song it was then and will be....Just recently a AM station out of Raliegh, NC kept on playing it on their weekly line up... Had to listen as they did not give the song title very often during weekly play lists.. Finally was able to catch recording artist and song title.... Back in 1974 it was also less likely to get the artist and song title because FM Stations were set that way for almost hour long plays ... This song was not played much by FM Stations in its 1974 debut and years after unlike other Doobie Songs... Tom B...

Well, I'm very sorry for your girlfriend marrying a stinky German guy and I'm sure that was just too much heartbreak at the time, but, I'm sure I've had more heartaches than you, and I'm sure there are others who have even more heartaches than I have. Bad/sad as it is, and I don't want it to be, its a part of life that everyone has to go through.

You’re not alone...This song came out and reminds me of the ‘74 summer when I was 18 and my first love broke up with me. It took all of 5 minutes maybe, and then she slipped away. I was devastated and that pain never quite left me. I saw her recently late in 2019 after 45 years. We chatted and I found out about her life...and tho she kept her beauty, her life was not great. I told her about mine (actually I’ve lived the American Dream), and I’m sure when we parted she thought about ‘what could have been.’ And you know, as great of a life I’ve had, I too thought for a little bit about what could have been for us. I told her sisters that she broke my heart when she left me, and one said ‘we all knew.’ That too hurt a bit. God, we never quite get over the first time we felt real love...and it slipped away. I’m lucky in that I did get true love twice.
@rcnelson3 жыл бұрын
@@stevenscalici3470 True. We never quite forget our first love, despite the joy we might have found later. Funny thing, that.
@alphacentauri80832 жыл бұрын
It's always interesting to hear people describe breakups and tacitly ascribing blame to the other party for "breaking my heart", as if it was done with malice. The issue with love and interpersonal connections has to do with the fact that we're nothing more than neurochemical beings, and attraction is based on that construct. Falling in and out of love is a testament to the fact that we're nothing more than mother nature's bitch because you can't control those dynamics.

Exact opposite with me. I met and married my ex husband in the 80's and that decade was my NIGHTMARE decade. Much preferred the seventies when I was in school and had some fun. Once I got married, all that went away and it was just ordeal after ordeal, nightmare after nightmare. And it continued somewhat after my divorce in the 1991, until my ex moved out of the state and I never saw him again, some twelve years ago.
