To think I fell in love with them by listening to this on a crappy A.M. car radio! Thank God I lived long enough for digital remastered recordings of all of Mac’s work. I’m crying…

The ability to remaster music is one thing, but personally I think being able to experience this album, or any of Fleetwood's music back in their glory days would have been better. But I'm only 25, so it seems to me that being able to experience any music before my time would feel a lot different than experiencing it today.

@@SuckOnBofaDeez Same age and I agree. There was a different authentic charm about music from this era that simply is no longer captured by today's artists it seems. Not to diminish anyone's talents, but I can only imagine the concert experience from then vs now...sigh.

Happy, happy days, but we have to understand and confess that the meaning of the song is murdered for at least a generation of Brits as all we can hear in our minds is Murray Walker saying, *"GO! Go! What the hell, the band must have earned enough from its use on TV.

This song means so much to me and I wasn’t a fan of Fleetwood Mac until I heard this song almost 50 years after it came out. It resonates with me deeper than any music that’s coming out now and I wish I could thank them for putting this album out despite all of their inner turmoil. It supplied generations upon generations an album full of absolute bangers.

I highly recommend Jefferson starship(start with a song called white rabbit it’s a trip) or Cream both are fantastic, also Steve nicks the main female singer of fleetwood Mac also did a lot of solo work also fantastic, as I side note highly recommend you look into the history of this very album it’s called rumours for very good reason and every song has very real and deep meaning once you know it the songs take a very different light but don’t want to spoil that journey for you. Enjoy

From Wikipedia: "The Chain" was created from combinations of several previously rejected materials, including solo work by Buckingham, Nicks and Christine McVie. It was assembled, often manually by splicing tapes with a razor blade, at the Record Plant in Sausalito, California, with hired engineers Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut.[4] Due to the spliced nature of the record (the drums and guitar were the only instruments recorded in each other's company)[8] and its sporadic composition and assembly from different rejected songs, "The Chain" is one of only a few Fleetwood Mac songs whose authorship is credited to all members of the band at the time.[4] The finished song itself has a basic rock structure, although it has two distinct portions: the main verse and chorus, and the outro. Influences of hard rock, folk, and country are also present. Subsequent analysis of "The Chain" has also led many to cite it as one of the most evocative expressions of the internal fracture among various band members at the time. Buckingham and Nicks were ending their relationship at the same time that John and Christine McVie's marriage broke down, as did that of Fleetwood and his wife, Jenny Boyd.[4]

The bass solo in the middle is epic, and will (in the UK at least) be forever associated with Formula 1 thanks to the BBC using it as the coverage's theme.

I would have never found the original song if it wasn't for Shazam.

It was AMAZING. Every single race you'd get super-hyped once this theme started playing, and afterwards you'd hear the late, great Murray Walker: "Hullo, and welcome to the Nurburgring for the German Grand Prix..." 🥲

Not many people know that this was used for formula 1. Kudos

@@biru4531It’s a double-edged sword, tbh babes. Any time I hear this song come on and it gets to the iconic bass - without fail - I find myself listening for the whining engines, the screams of the tires and the voice of Murray Walker. Even when I know they’re not gonna be there the absence is jarring, like missing a step on your way downstairs. Needless to say it sort of takes away from the emotional impact of the song. If you want a taste, search “F1, the science of the scream”.
