Those look like they would release easy. For your Black Rapid, you should try changing the sliding hardware to a QD swivel and get a Kirk or RRS plate (and many others now too) that has a QD socket. It is hands down the best system.

I’ve been using Black Rapid straps for over 10 years and really like the system as a whole. For these new straps, I’ve now used them for 2 months, yesterday for a 4 hour shooting gig, and they’ve held up extremely well. Absolutely no concerns about them falling off. With that said, it is most comfortable to use them with a short or midrange lens; it’s not super comfortable with a telephoto lens.

Interesting concept but the way it looks like it just "settles" into the slot is alarming. The price is quite attractive though for sure. I think it's one of those products where you have actually see it and play with it in person to understand it. I did end up going to the Ulanzi site and ran into the EDC strap which is an even more interesting item!

I use the peak design slide lite and lease and enjoy their easy to adjust and easy to remove features. They aren't the most comfortable, cutting into my neck when I'm out hiking with them. I wish more camera straps implemented the easy to remove and adjust features that peak design uses.

I prefer to use my dollars to support companies that do the R&D to bring new concepts to the photography community, instead of supporting companies that just reverse engineer successful products. If we were left with those companies, innovation would stagnate imo.

I generally agree. That said, I purchased a Ulanzi cage my my Sony ZV-1. This cage was simply better than a similar cages. They added an Arca compatible plate to the bottom and Arri compatible hole on the top. The Arri hole makes it incredibly easy to attach a top handle to the rig because there are no tools. It's very clever and doesn't seem like a knock-off.

This is a commendable approach and I often agree. That said, for the system to work as described, markets need both types of consumers. Because in truth, without competition, and options within the marketplace, innovation would stagnate. Peak Design will have no choice but to step it up as they lose sales to companies like Ulanzi, who sometimes take a general marketable idea, and offer a better or more affordable version of it. Quick release straps aren't a new concept by any means, and Peak Design didn't invent it. They just came out with the coolest version of it. Then Ulanzi wanted a piece of that pie, and so here we are. To be clear, I do respect your comment and I do the same much of the time.

Ulanzi literally made it better. If anything its more innovation with the maglink rather than just traditional clips with quick release done by PD...How is that even R&D? The "innovative" peak design concept was already something that was done in the niche camera DIY community with multiple quick release clips instead of just two on a single strap. They only took niche DIY ideas and mass produced it with better marketing.

I'd consider the Maglink a potential replacement for my recent purchase of the PD Slide - it cuts into my neck ( I have a long neck, being nearly six feet in height); the PD is also weightier. In terms of one-handed release, there are (now) many iterations on that theme from various manufacturers, & all are of high production quality. True, I use DSLR's which are heavier than Mirrorless; nevertheless, there's always room for improvement & innovation; personally, I've never really been sold on PD's ecological imperatives - it is as if they consider they're the first to implement such an ideology - & they (PD) push their agenda, so much so, I had to unsubscribe their e-mail shots to my inbox, ergo, they became a nuisance factor; it is unlikely that I'll ever purchase from them again. I do like the R Strap set up too, so that's something else to try. Finally, I am somewhat 'late to the party', in terms of commenting seven months after this video was first released. Have you been to Europe yet, & if so, did you enjoy the experience (European resident, here) ? Excellent presentation ! Best, Andrew.

There's one major difference that sold me on the Falcam instead of Peak Design, and she didn't even mention it in the video. It's that the magnetic link is a barrel design. Meaning the strap is free to rotate along that connection point, while the Peak Design straps cannot. That means with the Peak Design you need to untwist it and make sure everything is straight before hooking it up to your camera.

1:30 From a design perspective this is the link that's most likely to fail, and it does indeed look flimsy. I think these connection points must be solid, maybe titanium or a carbon fibre mix, with paracord. I would not trust that strap because of this.

@williamaungleyraud Жыл бұрын
I'm with you when it comes to snatching away the camera, but against cutting there is nothing to be done no matter what strap you use, none of them are cutting proof. Personally I prefer the wrist strap because it forces me to always hold on to my camera, and I use the backpack capture clip for when I want to rest my hand/wrist but have fast enough access if I want to grab a quick shot. Some. People use it on their waist belt, but most stick to using on their backpack. Also although the neck strap allows you to have hands free for when the moment demands, I personally get a lot of neck pain for having the camera hanging on my neck all day, or even a few hours, so for me it's more about ergonomics and physical wear and tear than anything else. 😎👍👍

I don’t trust their connector technology; magnets in combination with a reliance on a gravity held channel does not appear robust enough for a $10k camera. I use black rapid. I have no issues with the clip because I use a fusion pro plate. I also have peak designs but I can’t saw it impresses me greatly. Black rapid could dominate the market if they would just improve the length adjustment system to not travel over time and offer compatible plates (rather than relying on parters to solve the problem or clunky solutions like fishbone arca clamps with their anchor.

@williamaungleyraud
@williamaungleyraud Жыл бұрын
It's not about being better than a Sony, rather Sony is just a leader when it comes to AF performance, but there are many reasons why one should not buy a Sony. First Fujifilm has some of the best in-camera colors available in the market, I don't know a single serious videographer who doesn't shoot in log because Sony colors are muted and unattractive. Also, depending on the model, you get a more traditional analog body that photographers are more used to (recently Fuji has catered to the pasm dial market too, so there is something for everyone). Not to mention that Sony's stabilization is the weakest in the industry. The latest Panasonic S5 II is also a great camera I'd pick up any day over a Sony, they got the best stabilization in the industry now with PDAF and a hip of (manly) videography features, and even their colors aren't too shabby, but their ability to bake your own LUT live is a big deal. Sony are tried and true cameras, but there is more to the industry other than Sony, and as other camera manufacturers are catching with with Sony on the AF department, soon Sony will have to catch up with their competitors on the other feature set before stagnating in the industry. Personally I left both Canon and Sony for Fujifilm, and yes it came with trades, pros and cons, yet Fujifilm continue to improve with their newer bodies. Changing systems always come at a cost. Most Sony fanboys brag about Sony having most lenses, yet most of them can't afford their own Sony native lenses and end up using cheaper third-party ones (nothing against third-party lenses), but fanboying on any brand in particular doesn't make sense to me, and people should be more open minded because competition is great for the consumers. Hey there are KZbinrs out there shooting on Red, Blackmagic, Arri, Panasonic cinema cameras and those aren't Sony either. And no I don't hate Sony, I'm actually a believer that Sony has improved a lot after the a7sIII model and things have got so much better from that point (with a few exceptions 🤧 Z-V1) I personally prefer to look at cameras as creation tools and there are different tools for different jobs. Hope my comment didn't feel too intense here 😅😅 but please keep and eye out for Sony competition, there are many great things out there. For me Fujifilm are just super enjoyable cameras to shoot with, hence most shooters will usa as their personal cameras since critical AF isn't much of a priority, while professionals will use them too especially the newer bodies. Some people are just too afraid of stepping on the not full sensor/crop sensor tabu of professionalism. Thanks for reading this insane long comment and please I really don't mean to be disrespectful in any way. 😎👍👍👍👍
@kurotaka007
@kurotaka007 Жыл бұрын
@@williamaungleyraud Thanks for the time taken to outline your point. BTW, no disrespect taken. Actually, who better to listen to (?), certainly someone who is a user. The major issues with camera's is their ecosystems. Went through this when I went from Olympus (total crap) to SONY. Camera's being 10X worse than printers (performance vs ink cost) cameral and lenses. I made the comment because I've actually been interested in Fuji's lineup. I own $23k in SONY / VOIGTLANDER Glass and converting will be a financial nightmare. A7RIV & A7Siii. I just started a KZbin channel as an EXPAT living in Japan, but my pleasure really is photography. The FUJI look that seems to be so captivating by many FUJI lovers I see when using VOIGTLANDER manual lenses on my SONY's. My dislike for SONY comes from their bureaucratic software lack of updates. Forcing users to upgrade cameras to utilize new features. If I could find a great lens interface for FUJI, I may try. But they seem to have so many models it's difficult to determine what I really want? Appreciate your reply and information. Yes... can't criticize something without actually experiencing. Just been curious... thanks for the feedback.
@williamaungleyraud
@williamaungleyraud Жыл бұрын
@@kurotaka007 oh man in Japan you can find so much of vintage for such bargain prices plus the potential to collab with so many great creators there, I'm happy for you 😁 👍 So I'm not experienced with Voightlander lenses, as far as manual lenses go I use mainky Venus Optics Lawoa, but there are adapters from Sony E mount to Fujifilm X mount, and sinse manual lenses don't translate to exif data, it won't really matter if the adapters have pin connector or not. I wouldn't worry about image rendering or sensor coverage because Fujifilm X line use APS-C sensors. My best advice, especially if you are a photography first guy, would be to rent out a X-T5 for a week. It is visually retro inspired, compact enough, and it packs the analog controls which I personally prefer over PASM (as a photographer). The X-T5 is a hybrid camera and will do excellent video (note that AF performance will be somewhat less reliable than a Sony) Now if you want to text the best camera for the money you can't go wrong with the X-S20, it's got a very well balanced feature set for the value, and the latest firmware yet from Fuji. But if you're serious about video than the X-H2s is the camera to get on the Fuji line. They are all hybrid cameras by the way. OK now firmware updates, I still belive that Fuji is doing a better job than most when it comes to updating their existing cameras to new firmware and features, BUT, big but, slowly it too feels that Fuji is leaving their Kaizen philosophy of firmware updating their cameras to varoritize new features to new bodies only. So much so that the X-S20 although being a value camera still has features that it's pro cousin X-H2s doesn't have for the time being and Fuji isn't demonstrating much otherwise. One of the most attractive things about the Fujifilm ecosystem is their dedication to film simulations by the company themselves and by the community, lots of people shoot both raw and jpeg because the jpegs are so pleasing to use and to tinker with. Fuji has also opened doors for more third-party lens manufacturers to expand the already well established line of lenses. As I mentioned I love using Laowa manual lenses, and recently I dove into the rabbit hole of adapting S16 C mount lenses to my Fuji camera (by the way it's a fun rabbit hole, but a rabbit hole nonetheless) There is a big community on adapted lenses too. For the moment Fuji got a camera for every person, and it's hard to know which one to go with, but I hope that my comment could lighten the burden of a quick introduction to the Fujifilm cameras. There are many which I didn't mention which could well be a nice fit for you, but the reason being is that they are due to a new body replacement "soon", Fuji is dragging their feet to bring their full camera line to their newer sensor and processor. So for more that I recommend, I won't deny the fact that there will be a trade to switch systems and a bit of a learning curve, however depending on what you do with it, it might be worth your while. I can tell you (the obvious of course) that there is a major tabu in regard to professionals not using full frame sensor, and I encourage you to check reviews on KZbin, many newer Fuji bodies have bested full frame cameras in low light performance with more true clean stops, Fuji is doing a great job optimizing their cameras, there will be a difference in depth of field of course, if you need blurry backgrounds you'll definitely want to use faster lenses to compensate/achieve similar results, or buying a high quality speed booster. Anyway, I appreciate your understanding, and let me know if you ever get to document a test drive with a Fujifilm camera, it'd be awesome to hear your opinion as a Sony user. There is a KZbinr there in Japan (who may actually be able to show you the ropes on the Fujifilm ecosystem) his name is Thierry Gribalta he's got a KZbin channel under his name and even recently he reviewed a Sony camera, so I think he is your guy to bridge you between brands 😎👍👍
