Hi Nigel, What a great kit and a kind gesture from Annie. I love small scale, 1/72 is often overlooked but it demands extra care and it allows to build a diorama that will not take too much space. You can easily make a convoy. Now, with the quality of new kits, it makes bigger scales not that necessary anymore. I hope that you will find the time to build it soon. 👋🏻

Nice kit. It certainly captures the imagination. A video called "The riddle of the V2 rocket shape" is very intriguing and useful for us modelers. Many thanks for all you teach us.

Hi Nigel, you can still get the 1/35 kit from Scale Model Shop. Kit numbers are 2110 (Hanomag SS100 Vidalwagen V-2 Rocket) if that kit dosn't have the tractor unit you can get it seperately, kit number 2068 (Hanomag SS100). Both in stock.

V2 launching platforms were towed separately from the rockets, on their own dollies

It’s a great kit! I also wanted to get my hands on a 35th but found this one at a local show for $30

I did that kit in 1/35. Awesome kit. You'll enjoy.

Now we want a V1 doodle-bug in 1/72. Anyone do one?

Has to be on a launcher or being toppled by a Typhoon/Tempest.

There's an interesting YT video "How V-2 Rockets Were Launched" that suggests that the bases were indeed pre-sited rather than carried with the rocket. Useful to watch for all the trailer securing details.

They had fully mobile launch systems of this sort, which were moved by trailer. The original plan was to fire multiple missiles from bunkers (the most famous in Calais at Coupole d'Helfaut-Wizernes, although there are several bunker sites. The Coupole was heavily bombed, but it took Lancasters carry Tallboys to finish it off before it came into use.

I recall that the black and white chequered pattern was used for the test rockets, since when reviewing the film footage it was easier to identify rotations and spins. The camo paint job was used solely for operational launches.

Yes, that what i said toward the end of the video.

@@NigelsModellingBench 😆Sorry, the door bell went and I paused the video! Went to La Coupole in France and visited the V2 launch site there, worth a trip. The rocket there has the brown, green and white camo. Interesting place as the launch mechanism there was to build and fuel it in the main dome then wheel it out on train tracks for launch.

another thought Nigel. Have you seen the Special Hobby SH720101/72 scale EMW A 4b (a winged piloted V2) . Rather complementary addition..-. They did actually manage a couple of test launches apparently.

The A4 was deployed in the field by poring a small concrete block acting as a blast/ thermal insulator and mounting the firing stand over the top of the block. Once the A4 had been erected, the missile was fueled with liquid propellant, a cable was run out to the firing vehicle. An A4 unit consisted of several additional support trailers that carried the propellant in the form of fuel, oxidiser, and pressurant gas. All of these vehicles used half-tracks and the Steyr tractor as prime movers. Several launch firing stands were carried in one or more support vehicles because they had a limited thermal life and the use of 'shoot and scoot' tactics. The film 'Operation Crossbow' gives a glimpse of an A4 Firing sequence ETC. I was given a tape of an A4 demonstration prepartion by German POWs under Army supervision that goes into great detail.
