The answer is two-fold. To make the guy suffer in some way and to pad the paycheck. If you look at their salary it looks like they make alright money but the real answer is to see their yearly take home amount. They go from a decent wage to very well paid with the unlimited over-time allowed. Sometimes the numbers can be shocking. Like 200k+, it's honestly the perfect job for psychopaths...which is why you see so many showcasing those tendencies.
