@@Gorbz I would say that they're bad at activism too. For instance, a feminist is supposed to promote women--the female of the species. But the women they portray are either not feminine at all (manly in fact), annoying, or just bland. How does that help promote women? Feminists also tend to portray men in a negative light, possibly to make their female characters look even better in comparison--or the feminists are letting their sexism show. How is that helping to promote women. Feminists like to say feminism is about equality, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'd argue that modern activist writers are more of a detriment to their own cause. They all just think they're doing a good job.

I’d still would take a Hobbit over ROP( ideally we get another LOTRS trilogy) but for me, it’s going to depend on what story they present and how they write it. It’s why I’m curious to see the animated movie before I can fully commit as Jackson and the original LOTRS team are involved in that.

@@walkir2662 I don't know if you have seen the behind the scenes, but one of the biggest (most impactful things) was that due to the movie rights issues the original director left after 1.5 years of prerecording work. Jackson stepped up into the role of director but had to release the movie on the same timeline. This meant that instead of the 3 years he had to prepare for LOTR he had 6 months to change the original design to one that was more his style. This is why the final movie feels like it was filmed off the cuff and day by day, because it was, he was only able to plan the first movie and a half before they had to start filming. So he might be shafted now, but hopefully this type of situation won't happen again.

I think a Witch king of Angmar and the downfall of Arnor movie would be great,as long as its done right and not a woke shit show like ROP
@juryrigging Жыл бұрын
How would you do Angmar? The breaking of Arnor into Arthedain, Cardolan and Rhudaur would probably be prologue material, but where would you start and end the story? From a tying into Jackson's LotR perspective, I say you'd at least want to touch on: The hobbits settling into Arthedain and swearing nominal allegiance to the king (could again be prologue). Mableth's prophecy for Arvedui, and the subsequent fallout ( Ondoher's death, Arvedui and Fíriel's claims to the throne of Gondor and their subsequent rejection, dooming them to wait many lives of men before a chance at reuniting comes again). The death of Arvedui and Eärnur's fleet going to Lindon and joining with the elves and Arvedui's son Aranarth. The battle of Fornost, and Glorfindel's prophecy about the Witch King (though probably without Glorfindel again, because there is no justice in this world). Aranarth entrusting his son, the sword Narsil, the ring of Barahir, and the other heirlooms to Elrond's keeping, while the Shire prospers under the vigilance of his rangers. Possibly extend it to the Nazgûl taking Minas Ithil, the loss of Eärnur and Mardil becoming ruling steward, as that puts us pretty much into the watchful peace and sets up much of what is to follow. Seems like a lot of time and ground to cover, possibly too much for one film, and I'm wary of another trilogy (because they can't seem to stop at two). There are other things I'd like to see but I'm not convinced they'd even do what I listed well. Are there any points you think are important that I missed, or things from that list you'd leave out?
@johnord684 Жыл бұрын
One movie with an intro like LOTR explaining the history of the kingdom. I would keep it to the last days of the kingdom under King Arvedui and The battle of Fornost to finish it off ,concentrate on the battle itself ,the pursuit of the witch king by Earnur and the Gondorians and Glorfindel and the forces of Rivendell.Glorfindel's propecy about the witch king, and the setting up of the rangers to end on.

It really depends on who is involved and what level of interference WB has when it comes to DEI policies. This isn't going to be a remake of the main trilogy, it's likely going to be an adaptation of different stories in the first or third age of Tolkien's mythology. If Jackson and his team are involved and in the right mindset with full creative control, there's a good chance it'll be at least good.
@brentchesson2179 Жыл бұрын
Well put. Most of the comments I keep reading seem to assume they are going to remake the trilogy movies when that's not the case at all. They said it would be set in the Third Age and that's really it. There's a ton of possibilities for good stories if done correctly. If PJ and Phillipa Boyens get complete creative control and minimal studio interfere then they could make something good. During the War of the Ring there was alot of stuff going on in other places as well. If they did something similar to the War in the North video game there's the possibility for something interesting. I just wish people would quit running with false information and saying stuff that isn't true.

You know what I think the only ingredient that is missing from current day film making is passion. Go and listen or watch or read interviews with directors for anime series and you can hear how much they love the series they're working on. You never see them talk about things that don't matter or relate to the story. You can also feel it when the animators are having fun with what they're doing. For example Mushuko Tensei animators literally fought in an animation battle so that they could be the ones to get certain scenes as they loved a certain character so much. They went be to the director with their best work and went "Sir, please give me X scene. Look how cool I can make it." Do you feel that in say a recent Marvel film? Do you see animators fighting for an Antman scene? You can feel the passion in certain aspects of Hollywood films today where you can sense someone poured their soul into making or at least tried to make something amazing but there are certain films like recent Marvel where I can tell the CG people are so overworked that just want to get it over with. They don't care how it looks or feels. They hear from top guy "Hey! we need a desert" and so they make a generic ass desert. They don't add the tiny details to make me go oh cool. Everything in Marvel feels the same wishy washy science fiction and every civilisation feels the same with no distinct culture behind them. If they want to do Tolkien then I think the only people who should do the heavy lifting (writing, directing, cast, director of CG etc) for a Tolkien story are whose who live and breath that beautiful fantasy world. I felt that passion in the LOTR trilogy all those years. Yes book fans know that some parts were skipped or altered for the cinema but me as a film only guy don't mind adaptations being slightly altered so long it still fits the theme of the story and is passion filled from people who genuinely loved the world build by Tolkien.

They will play up the fact he is black and make Rohan and Gondor (particularly Gondor) oppose Aragorn as king because he is black. Aragorn will use his experience to bond with the Hobbits, who humans are also racist towards. Gimli and Legolas will be a gay couple, not just best friends. Sam and Frodo will end up in a relationship too, Sam being bi and Frodo gay. Etc. The script practically writes itself. There is a problem though, as always with licensing the most of Tolkien material regarding those events is in the other works, the Silm portions deal with it, bits in Unfinished Tales, Last Alliance is talked about in the main narrative of lotr and it's appendices but in very broad strokes, which leaves the situation identical to the one amazon had with their show!! So another giant fanfic would be taking place! I won't ever trust any of the original content in Tolkien's world they come up with, if it's not written or directly referenced by author, there's no way it would be done well! Sauron gathered to him great strength of his servants out of the east and the south; and among them were not a few of the high race of Númenor.... But because of the power of Gil-galad these renegades, lords both mighty and evil, for the most part took up their abodes in the southlands far away; yet two there were, Herumor and Fuinur, who rose to power among the Haradrim, a great and cruel people that dwelt in the wide lands south of Mordor.... The Silmarillion, Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age No Silm rights to possibility of using this! Oropher... assembled a great army of his now numerous people, and joining with the lesser army of [Amdír] of Lórien he led the host of the Silvan Elves to battle. The Silvan Elves were hardy and valiant, but ill-equipped with armour or weapons in comparison with the Eldar of the West; also they were independent, and not disposed to place themselves under the supreme command of Gil-galad. Unfinished Tales, Part 2, Ch 4, Appendix B, The History of Galadriel and Celeborn: The Sindarin Princes of the Silvan Elves Potential for drama and action...nope it's in UT, so out the window it goes! Without the extended rights the material will never be given enough justice!

I hate going to the theater to watch something. even as a little kid i hated it, the big screen means nothing to be, infinitely more comfortable to just watch it at home

As far as reboots/remakes go Warner Brothers has cleared that there no plans in the foreseeable future to reboot the LOTR trilogy but they do plan new movies based on the third age.

People thought that the original trilogy was going to be terrible. It really comes down to who's making it and the job they do. Simple.

My mantra for entertainment these days?…..Watch and/or read the old stuff. Simple. Satisfying.

The tide is turning, but we're not there yet. Anything made from now to 2027ish is going to be crap, and after that it'll slowly start to improve.

No movie has be replayed so many times in our local cinema like the LOTR movies, recently they hade a LOTR weekend where they showed all 3 in the same day 😁 I also like the Hobbit, sure making it to 3 movies might been a stretch and the elves jumping over the shieldwall was really cringe but except that so where they good 🙂

I don’t feel anything anymore about these announcements. I have the trilogy on DVD, and I have the books in print. That’s all we got, and I’m fine with it. Let the franchise be dead.

How about a show hosted by middle earth experts with fans who compete with their idea for a show set in middle earth? Gradually whittle down to the last 5 with the winner being turned into a show or more if it's good enough?

I'd watch that

I have to say I have cautious curiosity about this news. There's a ton of variables to learn about before I have a more solid opinion but IF Peter Jackson and Phillipa Boyens are attached and have complete creative control I'd feel alot more optimistic about it. I'd also have to know more about what the exact story would be because there's a possibility for other good Third Age stories besides the main quest. There was alot of other fights going on around Middle Earth during the War of the Ring. The War in the North video game is a good example of the possibility that expanding on other events has.

No hope that this wont end badly...though have some hope for that anime movie coming out next year.

My last hope if WB gonna give it to PJ as the main director for this new LOTR movie, i think it would be better than just without PJ, but if not then its gonna be for "Modern Audience" as always like RoP, and WB gonna make more spin off and spin off with alot of swaps, divershitty, also i heard Aragorn got race swap

You lads should take a look at 'Legend of the Seeker'. I know the Sword of Truth book series is rightly not smiled upon by fantasy fans but Legend of the Seeker is still a fantasy TV series and... that's all I can really say about it.

@@Kanudelgruber THE last one I saw in cinemas, I was so disappointed with it :) Force Awakens was nothing more than rehash of the status quo, and really, REALLY disrespected the original characters and the worldbuilding made no sense to me and the rest is history, the sequel trilogy had no proper plan of story, no enjoyable characters (I hate Rey with passion, can't stand her, Finn and Poe had some potential that got quickly ruined etc. what they did to the favorite originals characters is almost a crime, my favorite Luke Skywalker so disrespected...and ughh loss of words).
