another WEEK IN MY LIFE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GENEVA! 📚

Hey hey hey! ❤️
I’m taking you along on a very ordinary in my life at the University of Geneva. Rainy weather and looming exams, meant most of my time was spent indoors having ‘study’ sessions with friends.
I tried to include some details on the courses I’m taking this semester for those who are interested in a similar field of study. I’ve also included a tour of my residence, Cité Universitaire, which begins at 3:19.
Lastly -
In his book “Show Your Work”, Austin Kleon makes the compelling argument to take people behind the scenes and document the process (instead of the product). SO, I’ve decided to add the footage of my playing one of the first songs I’ve learned on the ukulele.
PS. there’s sound quality issues in this clip, and I’m only partly referring to my strumming/singing. 🎶🤣

Hi Lakshmi, thank you for the video, it was very informative! I'll be going over to Geneva and staying in CUG for a semester exchange program in 2 weeks and I just have a few questions about CUG if you could so kindly answer them :) - How strict are they about the no additional appliances rule? Thinking of bringing a fan and I wonder if those are allowed in the room? Otherwise, how do you cope with the heat in summer? - Other than traditional pots and pans, are things like mini portable cookers (using electricity to cook) allowed?

I'm glad you liked it! :) The value proposition for me was two-fold: first, the presence of other students in the dorm (more friends!), and the location (easy access to other parts of the city!).

Hi Mesma, This can depend on the program/courses you’ll take on the exchange, but I definitely think it’s possible to live in Geneva and study at UNIGE as an Anglophone. The university also offers French classes for exchange students, should you wish to improve your command over the language while you’re there. Good Luck!

Hi Jimmy, I recommend connecting with the academic coordinator for the Master of Physics re: admission requirements. masters.unige.ch/sciences/physics#physics Once you've been accepted to the program, then you can apply for a student visa, look for accommodation, complete matriculation at UNIGE, obtain a permit from the Canton, etc. Good Luck!

In addition to food and rent (accommodations can range from 300CHF to 1,500CHF), other basic expenses you can keep in mind: Swiss health insurance (~65CHFmonth for students), phone plans (~25CHF/month), ‘tpg’ transportation pass (400CHF/year). @@bhavesh_rajpoot, that's a tricky question! Monthly grocery expenses are relative ... Here are some popular Swiss supermarket chains: Coop, Migros, Lidl, Aldi, Denner Consider looking through their websites to determine an estimate that works best for you, but 100CHF/month is reasonable to start.

Hi Aliya, With the standard Swiss study permit, most students can work for up to 15 hours a week, after 6 months on arrival. Candidacy varies based on the degree, area of study, and school. I'd encourage you to look through program-specific websites to help narrow things down re: GPA requirements. Good Luck!
