The other linkage is for hitching to the back of the tractor otherwise the machine would run backwards.

Super informative, interesting to hear the real tales of the black grass battles... we have none here (yet) and don't do any spring drilling, plough every 4th year but otherwise min-til...sandy soil down here so was interested to hear you mention spring drilling beans so counter the black grass, I shall bear that in mind seeing as we sell all our standing straw and have various dirty balers coming and going so the likely-hood of black grass is high... Incidentally and based on your previous recommendations - we've just bought a Spearhead trimmer... Cheers Leroy.

At the bottom of our lane there is a main road with a bend in it, every year when spring comes the grass/weeds grow like crazy and it’s really dangerous because we can’t see so we have to claw the council about 10 times to try and get them to cut it

Have you got 3 farms? 2 arable and 1 livestock? Be interesting to see the cattle side of things if so
@Itsafarminglifeforme5 жыл бұрын
Baz B That’s correct, I don’t really get involved with the cows hence you don’t see much of them but I will try get more footage of them in future 👍

Great video andy, you got new tyres on the tractor? Just plough the black grass in that a get rid of it. Pity you didn't have camera on when the old biddy waved her stick at you. The running gear always on the left same as a combine header.

Just wondering, looks like your topper can be front or rear mounted??, to top verges without running the gearbox in the hedge, could you not just turn deck around??
@Itsafarminglifeforme5 жыл бұрын
Iain Norris Nice idea but the topper would be running backwards if I turned it around 👍

Great video hope I've not missed the info already but what's the specs of your farm's ie. Acreage, machinery or cow numbers just to give us perspective, cheers!

It probably would be an idea to test removing the clay part of that field from rotation so it doesn't spread and you can control it?

Good video and work. One thing re Hedgecutting - Isn't there a ban on hedge trimming until Sept 1st, affecting sfp. Not implying that means a great deal, but would be lucky to get away with it here
@olliemarshall65095 жыл бұрын
U can get away with it for road hedges cuz of safety

The 5100M would be a nice tractor if it didn't have such a clunky transmission, that's why the 5100R is the better choice despite the cost IMO.

Does Roundup not kill off black grass?
@Itsafarminglifeforme5 жыл бұрын
David E Yes we spray the seed beds with roundup before we plant the crops so it kills any black grass that had already started growing. 👍

It's a farming life for me! Fair enough we tend not to have to shake them out with them being stalkier dryer more course grass. However this year we mowed and got thundershowers over night so we wuffled them and they have made some lovely haylage
