We have the OG 1.0 and it's whisper quiet. I was considering upgrading since Anova is giving 50% off towards the 3.0 thru the app but even at 50% off I think I'd rather deal with losing the compatibility with the app in a year than deal with the high pitched whiny noise. My 1.0 still works perfectly. I thought maybe the reviews on amazon talking about the noise could mean Anova would fix this in a future model but to now see in this video that the noise was there even in the 2.0 model doesn't give me much hope LOL. I'll stick with my 1.0 as long as it work even if I can't use the app in a year. Thank you for making this video because it helped me make my decision!

Was considering the same but after seeing this, we’ll just stick to our silent OG model and forego the app. I had no idea newer smaller models made this whining noise.

I have the OG 1.0 and it’s whisper quiet… I’ve never even noticed a sound. I don’t want a noise when buying a new one. What models have you tested that are quiet?

@@Darkk6969Exactly. I only have a handful of “recipes” in the app so it’s not like it will be a huge issue to just transfer those into a note. Not to mention I think it’s shady for them to discontinue the app for our cookers.

Just bought the precision pro version and the touchscreen stopped displaying 5mins after powering on. After further investigation I found this to be a common issue. It seems the precisions are more reliable. Still waiting for a resolution from Anova.

@@topsousvidesure, np! one more followup: wifi/UI/noise is not really incentive enough for me personally, that additional 100W maybe one reason to consider 3.0. Have you done any test on 1100W vs 1000W heating time or something about the power? Or does it do anything else than less heating time? Thank u

With the current sale going on, about a good time to upgrade as any. The 1st gen model is great though. Should continue to last you a long time. If you could use another cooker in the kitchen, or think your 1st gen is on the fritz, I’d say go for it!

You're lucky. My gen 1 only lasted a few months as steam / moisture kept getting into it. At first leaving it to dry in the sun fixed it but after a while it was dead. Anova replaced it under warranty as it's a known issue when used in a cold environment (which is why they quickly came out with version 2). I chose an OG nano as a replacement as they're more moisture-proof (version 2 hadn't come out yet and they agreed to it). The nano's been going perfectly for over 3 years now.

I find very hard to say that loosing wifi compatibility is fair. Anova is loosing customer doing that, for me no reason to update to series 3 model

Seems a little absurd that one of the bigger players in the sous vide space has louder motors than the inkbird at under half the price. Seems like I'll be replacing my og anova with an ink bird instead of a newer anova
