Instead of a skimmer I used air pump on a timer to run overnight while the lights are off, the surface film was gone in one night. ( those lights look awesome)

You're absolutely right, but some people if they don't want to have the noise of the air bubbles then a quiet scimmer will do the trick..

Actually, the whole thing has to be redesign much like that of the Eheim has done with their surface skimmer.

I use ocean free skimmers, love them. They are very similar to the oase 👍

I have a Hygger HG141 Waste Collector but I am using a FX6 by Fluval Canister, I need the skimmer to spin so the waste collector will work. Can I fill the whole in the skimmer so it wont put air in the canister then buy the OASE skimmer. My question will the skimmer spin if it is plugged in the middle

What I have found is that the skimmers that are specifically made with their own independent motor are the best. The skimmers you add onto canister filters, well I've had constant problems with, and I would never used them ever again..

The tweezers are to take the sponge out. I put a piece of floss on top of the sponge. The floss has to be changes ever other day. You can also remove the screen.

@@mikecarlin3396 these skimmers are so efficient I don't think he would even need a larger one. But if you would need a larger one, I'd rather buy two small ones and put them on each end of the tank before I would just buy one large one. But that's only what I would do.

I had an idea with the ones you didnt recommend. If you let the bottom of the pipe go into a plenum and the top part suck water from the top would that work as a replacement for an air stone or would it draw to much water?

It wouldn't work because you need to have a fine adjustment somehow on the inlet water to balance it out with the top surface skimmer..

I suspected that. Kind of hoped it would balance out by it self by drawing most of the water from the top while also creating a slight under pressure in the plenum. Thanks for the answer.

I just got mine today and I hooked it up, but it's so noisy. Why is yours so quiet? What am I doing wrong? I will say that it's doing an amazing job. I've only had it running for about 20 minutes and it's basically cleared the surface of the water. I have a 150 gallon tank and I have live plants floating in the tank. I recently noticed some white residue, like dandruff covering the surface of the water. I guess for now, I'll unplug it since it's clear for now.

Here's an idea I have. Go out and buy yourself a timer and put the skimmer on a timer so it only runs at certain times of the day for let's say a half hour. As you have noticed, you don't have to run the skimmers 24 hours a day seven days a week in order for them to be effective.

@@anoxicfiltrationplenums Thank you. Yes, I've decided that I'll only turn it on when I need to use it. Luckily it only took about 15-20 minutes to clear the top. But it's a very loud rattle while it's going. But I guess that's ok since it's a short amount of time that I need to use it.

It about pronunciation! 😉Wouldnt Oase in English be more like oats without the T? 😉 even when english speakers try to pronounce it the german way they add extra Ys and Ws where they dont exist Owasay! Never got dachshund, pinscher, porsche, or frankenstein right, why worry about oase, its not like its eHim or anything! 😁

I'm wondering if you know why manufacturer's don't use a ground plug on majority of their products, to me it's really a big lack of safety, I'm talking about any product that uses a water pump.

I think most manufacturers are thinking that aquariums should be connected up to a GFCI in order to give the safety that is needed.

I by myself put a ground probe in my tanks, but most of the hobbiests aren't aware of the risks, specially there are children putting their hands in the aquarium

@@jupercio I agree with you, but I think manufactures are getting a little cheaper on the cords they use for the products apparently. I noticed the cords and plugs look like off the shelf cords that match that of an extension cord.

Ummm...you should not be using a canister filter....it is supposed to be an air filter...that is glass skimmer 101....yikes that this is the advice. No wonder you think they don't work.

The surface skimmer that I show you in the video is specifically designed for canister filters. Go on Amazon and you will see that they are made for the intake of a canister filter..
