Yeah I've seen SO many videos with these idiot youtubers who claim the ninja never wore any of that and it's coming from those who either claim they've studied the bansenshukai & japanese history - or from complete noobs who know literally nothing about ninja or they collaborate with Anthony Cummins so automatically they think they have the answers...pfft - I call bull$#!t, I find it annoying that they try to debunk everything the ninja did in actual history - yet they have the nerve to claim they didn't when we already have historical writings...lol You on the other hand explain the "ninja suit" in great detail and use logic and more importantly - common sense. This video doesn't have enough views and is underrated...good stuff!

Cool video, Soke! I love how you show the simple truth of any particular matter (including ninja dress) and show why it was practical -- anklewear to keep bugs out / make you move more athletically. Thank you!

Excllent Video! Yes, the shinobi shozoku is historically accurate, but the "term" shinobi shozoku is a modern "term" to reflect the clothing that a ninja would wear on a mission.

Interesting vid! I'd be interested to know if you'd have any sources for training attire as in the pants, jacket and leg gaiters?

Hi Sensei Crista! U know what I do? I take my hakama and tie them inside with strings from an old Ninjutsu GI..and turn em inside out (tied behind and underneath...then underneath the hakama I have just solid black pants (loose fit) then I tuck the remains inside of the tabi boots (get the jika tabi with the golden prongs they hold up a lot better than the Velcro ones if I'm using the Velcro ones I tie more string

Sensei, I want an Iga-Bakama or "shinobi shozoku" for training. But there's so much garbage on sale out there and super expensive. Should I just buy a regular Aikido Hakama and put some wraps or strings on the lower legs, or do these have too wide lower legs?

Yes, building one for you is always best. 😊

Whenever I was out doing something I wasn't supposed to be doing at night, I'd always wear something fitting for that situation. Clothing that wouldn't get caught easily. Made sure my tools were well hidden. Planned my route ahead of time during the day and did the mission at night. Never got caught. I'd never wear something that would make me stick out. Depending on the situation it was either a grey hoodie and work pants, neutral looking clothes that also blend in with city streets, donned a balaclava when needed or some kind of military BDU like M81 or Multicam. Actually you can say that modern military BDUs are the shozoku of the 21st century. Multicam works ridiculously well at night during the summer time with or without moonlight. In case you were wondering what I was doing at night well... let's just say I had some friends who were sexually abused and hooked on drugs because of a couple of people. I dealt with them accordingly. I didn't hurt them physically, but I scared the shit out of them. They left town. Some were arrested. I avoided contact with them entirely. Tired of groomers and chimos? Ninjutsu will make quick work of them. 😉

Also I want to say that Rikimaru's outfit in the Tenchu games was accurate to what a ninja would wear. brown over black blends in much better for most situations like Coyote Brown. His white hair is exposed and his scars aren't covered up but hey, I didn't say it was perfect. Lol But wearing the colors of nature is much better than wearing just black. Grey, blue, green and brown. Like modern military BDUs. Black is used more for intimidation. If I want to scare somebody, I wear black and bright, blood red or orange.

A ninja and samurai is to different things one the samurai is a army for the emperor and the ninja is an assassin for anyone only reason I know I do a lot of research on them

The period accurate cloth used wouldn't be black but most likely dark indigo. Black dye was rare. And while the style and patterns are common to the era, there wasn't any evidence of an exclusive to ninja uniform. I like the more subtle interpretation. It makes shinobi even more illusive. The modern shinobi shozoku would be dark clothes with no identifying marks and maybe a cloth mask people currently wear since covid.
