Ansoo Lake Via Mohandri and Manoor Valley Track

Ansoo lake is famous for its Tear Shape (That’s why it is called Ansoo lake) and its chilling cold weather. Last time I visited Ansoo lake from Saiful Malook lake and had severe headache due to height. That was the only time I ever had problem with height. I never had low oxygem problem even at 6500 meter height. One of my fried told me that there is another track to Ansoo lake from Muhandir and it is said to be very beautiful. I wanted to visit it again.
Started from Islamabad at around 1:00 pm and reached Mohandri at 8:00 pm. Speed was slow due to rain all the way from Abbottabad to Muhandri. Usually it takes 5 hours to reach there from Islamabad. Spend the night at Muhandri and hired a Jeep to reach Rewdi. It takes two and half hour to reach there. Started tracking at 09:30 am. The track is beautiful. We reached Dher Village at around 12:30. I was hungry and had headache. We stopped there and after having lunch and tea I slept. I couldn’t have moved forward with severe headache. When I woke up around 04:30, the headache had subsided but was still there. We spent the night there and got up early in the morning. After having break fast at 05:30 am we started tracking towards the lake at around 06:00 am. First 1/3 part of the hike is not very challenging. It is like a walk in a vast green meadow with a gentle slope. The slope is not very gentle but moving zigzag makes is easy. The second and third part of the journey is a bit tough. Not because it is technical but because of the steepness. There are also few patches where you have to cross snow. It is little tricky. Hopefully there will be no snow after 15th of July. However if you are going there in winter or before 15th of July, it is better to have crampons to be safe.
It took us 4 hours and 45 minutes to finally reach the destination. Weather was good and the lake was very much visible. I again had usual height problem and due to low oxygen lack of acclimatization, I was having severe headache. I vomited and after that the headache subsided a little. After spending 15 minutes we started back at 11 am. Reached Dher Village at around 2 pm. Stopped there and had lunch and tea. Again we started our journey and reached Rewdi at around 4 pm.
Manoor valley is a very beautiful landscape and there are camping sites. Even if you don’t intend to go and visit Ansoo lake you can visit Manoor valley with family for a camping trip.

For two reasons, Ansu lake is quite famous; its proximity from Saif ul Malook lake, and because of its tear shape from which it gets its name, Ansu. I visited Ansu lake for the first time back in 2012 through Saif ul Malook track, but later came to know that there is another track to Ansu lake that leads from Manoor Valley side. Manoor valley itself is vast and beautiful and one needs alot of time to explore it properly. Manoor valley jeepable track starts from Mahandri on main Naran road, just few kilometers before Kaghan. I had a to making bookings and arrangements of an official trip of my travel company EPIC JOURNEYS in Naran, and had a couple of spare days in between, so decided to explore the trail of Ansu lake from Manoor valley side. On 30 July, 2019, i left home around 3 AM alone, as it was an eleventh hour plan so no one got ready to accompany me. By 10 AM i reached Naran and by 2PM was done with all official tasks and came back to Mahandri in the evening, from where jeep track to Manoor valley starts. Next day on 31st of July, got on to a local jeep from main bazar Mahandri for Baiyari village, the last village of Manoor valley. It took two hours on jeep from Mahandri till Baiyari, and we crossed two main villages on the way, Manoor bela and Seiree. Started track from Baiyari around 2PM, reached Dheer village around 6PM and camped there for the night as the weather was not good to go ahead. Next day woke up early in the morning and headed to our trail to Ansu lake. From Dheer village it takes one hour to reach Dheer top/meadows and further one hour up till lake. But it took us 5 hours to reach Ansu lake from Dheer village because of foggy weather with almost zero visibility at some places. But finally reached the lake view point. Came back to Baiyari in the evening around 7 PM and camped there. Next day early morning got on to jeep from Baiyari for Mahandri where my car was parked. Although the fog ruined the views and scenery of the track, yet the virgin and untouched lands of Manoor to Ansu lake left a permanent impression on my mind.
