I do not use a pre amp. I was told at one point that if your receiver has a phono jack, then you don't need one. My sound is beautiful, clear crisp , warm....I have been collecting and using stereo equipment for a great number of years. I am 63, and have never had a problem with my playback using my phonograph. Take care Jarrett.

Remastering could be bad but the fact that is digital doesn't mean anything. At the digital resolution used in the studio, much bigger than that of the CD (44kHz 16bit) there is no audible loss of definition and no coloration in the sound. I really trust mastering engineers (I also kinda aspire to learn how to be one) and in fact I don't even want to buy used vinyl if I could have it brand new.

If the wood glue cleaning technique is done properly, it doesn't do ANY damage to the record's surface, and can in fact improve it's sound. It's simply another oddball cleaning method that most uninformed or busy people avoid, both because of the time and effort involved. I have several lab and other reports to back up my NO DAMAGE claims, btw.

If you make an Amazon wishlist of tons of records that you want to add to your collection, you can flick through it every day or so and there will ALWAYS be some albums that have randonly dropped in price. I basically never buy albums at the regular price. Ones that are 20 or 25 quid as standard WILL drop to 15 or even 10 quid at some point.

Hey Vinyl Eyezz love the videos! They are extremely helpful. Some questions for the next questions video: How can we tell if a record needle needs to be replaced or is causing damage to your records? Is it recommended to replace them after a number of plays/time? Also If a record has minor surface scratches from removing them from paper sleeves (but still plays/sounds well) does it cause damage to the needle or is that only deeper scratches? Thanks!

I have another possible solution for Brian Vermeer's question. The AT-LP3 has two small holes on the bottom of the plinth, that lead to the motor's trim pots that control each of the turntable's speeds. If you take a small enough screwdriver and turn the trim pots, you can actually adjust the speed. I think counter-clockwise will slow it down, but you might want to double check that, and while you're double checking things, I can't remember which trim pot controls which speed off the top of my head.

Pops and clicks on a record are not caused directly by static. Static attracts dust and dirt which can get stuck between the grooves and will distort the audio.

To the guy at 6:29, asking if there are any good portable turntables: There's only one decent portable turntable I can think of, the Numark PT-01. It was originally meant for DJs or vinyl enthusiasts who wanted to listen to vinyls and even scratch them directly at the record stores before buying them. It comes with a built-in speaker, a preamp with a headphone jack and a pre-installed cartridge. Since it was primarily meant for DJs, there's also a pitch knob and a tone adjustment knob. What's cool about this very tiny suitcase turntable, is that it's capable of all 3 speeds (33, 45 and even 78 rpm). To power it up, you can either use the included power cable or 6 D cells. Even though it might not seem like it, this very small turntable is capable of playing 12 inch records (don't be fooled by the very tiny platter!). Now I know, it's definitely not the best sound-wise, and I would highly recommend to only use it while on the go. If you really want the full vinyl experience, consider buying a stationary hifi turntable for your living room.

Ok I have a few questions. I have my own answers but would like to hear your answers as a young fellow. Belt or direct drive turntable? Why? Buy a turntable you can afford or wait out for something better? Built-in preamp or stand alone? When did digital media begin to start pressing on vinyl? What's the best pressing company? Why? What's a master and stamper? Power speaker? Yes no and Why? Have you ever heard of the GVS turntable?
@sheikhyaboooty
@sheikhyaboooty 5 жыл бұрын
Some answers from an old git. Both belt and direct vary from cheap and hopeless to incredibly expensive and exotic. My Linn LP12 is belt drive and that is what I prefer but either can produce the accuracy and tone you`ll enjoy. Buy the very best that you can afford, there are some excellent 2nd hand tables for silly money on Ebay. I`d suggest going for simple and solid engineering, a vintage Riga maybe. Maybe even a Sondek Basik or a Mitchell if you have the money. Stand alone amp always. Let each component do only what it is primarily designed to do. Sadly digital media onto analogue is a bit of a cop out. They can sound pretty sweet, true, but not the depth and sound stage of analogue to analogue. Too many to choose from and depends entirely on your musical taste. Master and Stamper is the process whereby a very accurate but very delicate master is duplicated through a process of molding and stamping onto a more robust material. Same answer as earlier, an amp that is only an amp works at its best, a speaker that is only a speaker will do the same. However there are some excellent and expensive active speakers as well as a good few cheaper ones. Again, Ebay is the place to find some excellent and cheap vintage speakers, go for Bi wire inputs if you can. No, never came across the GVS name.

Just one suggestion the Minot Wheel for a turntable as it is made in Sweden then it must be good, Iseo Tomita on Red Label records owned by RCA is good, guys on Linear Tracking turntables where the tonearm is actually part of the lid then you have to have the lid down otherwise you will not hear anything.

Reel to reel, a short lived format? What are you talking about? Reel to reel came way before any of the other formats, and the format is still going strong. Not only does most reel to reel machines from way back still run, but they have started making new ones as well (for instance Thorens). The format is the ultimate high end, and beats the crap out of even the best turntables/vinyl. You could get pre-recorded reel to reel stereo albums, years before they figured out how to make stereo records. You can get albums from the 1950's which still sounds better than any modern recording, and with a dynamic range you won't belive (and no cut's above 22 khz). You can buy new albums on reel to reel in a quality you can't imagine. Nope, reel to reel isn't a short lived format. By the way, great video Jarrett. Not your fault some ask silly questions.

Could you possibly review the Teac lpr 660 all in one system? Yes, I did say all in one system which I hear is way cut above the Crosleys without the issues the latter brand is plagued by. I almost forgot to mention this system's tone arm , unlike the Crosley does have a counterweight and the default Ortofon stylus can be upgraded to something like the LP Gear Blue Cerapreme,; this system also has a cd recorder.

Hey Buddy have you ever bought a brand new LP only to find out that theres static noise on the quiet passages between songs that were incorporated in the vinyl, making it sound like a bad pressing even after you've tried numerous cleaning techniques???? If so is there a magic solution to the problem??

Outer sleeves for me was just slitting the opening to get the record out. Unfortunately, that doesn't work for double or triple album sets. I wish I had outer jackets years ago. The jacket can be removed to open the gatefold, then when finished, put back on. My Hot Rocks Rolling Stones album cover is badly worn. But the vinyl is good. I have since put outer sleeves on albums that needed it, which was most of them. Inner sleeves too. By the way, you are a great presenter. Bags unlimited? I need jackets, not the vinyl. I'll check them out.

If I purchase only new/limited edition vinyl do I need to invest in a record cleaning machine? I currently hand clean each with the pad and solution but it’s difficult to handle the vinyl while cleaning. Just looking for a simple solution for the dust etc. I’m considering either the record doctor V or the nitty gritty 1.0 since it’s the cheapest model. Thank You, Brian

hey man, can you make a video about vinyl lovers thinking of opening a record store. From scratch to the opening of the actual store. What do they need to do, where to get sources, that kind of questions. Thanks

Do you listen to Nick Drake. And the Stone Roses rule, saw them in 2012 at Heaton Park in my home town of Prestwich. Was the greatest night of my life. My favourite track of theirs is Made of Stone.

Best Beatles song ever: "Here, There, and Everywhere." And if I'm not mistaken, I believe it was written by George Harrison.

A remaster isn’t made to decrease the sound quality. It tries to improve the quality. And also if there was a digital step in the production it doesn’t mean the sound isn’t as good as it would be all analog. There was this famous example where remastered were AD DA converted and sold as all analog and nobody noticed! The price of the digital gear summed up wich is used in these processes is higher than my and probably your (who ever this reads) yearly income. In this whole Hi-Fi & Vinyl bubble there is so much hoax. But it seems to sell well.
