The point of the dialogue was my main interest. I loved how varied the dialogue was in RF4. It was one of the most jarring things when I started up Olive Town and it was possible to run into dialogue that was literally, "Good evening." and nothing else. Conversation over. Even that's changing with updates though, but I'm glad it doesn't seem like an issue. I love the characterization all the dialogue can add.

Magic makes combat trivial in this one, literally just walk up to enemies, cast ground spike a few times using dash to cancel the animation and watch everything get stun locked and die.

RF 4 relies on you spending time between dungeons to gear up and raise your stats through farming. Rushing the content is hard unless you hard grind some skills. RF3 was very lenient in this regard which is why it allows you to rush the story so hard when you know what you are doing.

Upgrade your gear to level ten with useful stats, keep eating food to replenish RP (pickled turnip for beginning game, progress to baked sweet potato, etc), and party up with two friendly monsters. Them monsters distract a lot of damage from you, and for that alone, they are worth it. Also, if you already explored an area, you can just race through it, you don’t need to kill every mob. Getting a chemistry set right after you get your simple cooking counter. Chemistry set is an amazing early game money maker (hot spice and mixed herbs) as well as giving you health potions

Forging, crafting, and medicine are 100% worth the time. Makes late battles easy.

I was getting my butt kicked when I wasn’t crafting enough/effectively. Once I figured out how to make the best possible items and got some high level attack monsters it got a lot easier. It did require me to grind for crafting levels a lot so I could make high quality gear (so many days spent making hundreds of basic swords and shields 💀).

@@princessaria Upgrading earns a lot of experience. I'd make 10-20 basic gear and upgrade them all with iron and gain tons of levels. I earned practically nothing forging those low level items, it's the upgrading that gives you the most experience.

idk if its just cuz I have such nostalgia about hm/rf but they'd probably have to take out the dating sim aspect and the personalised dialogues if they kept "town members" in a multiplayer open world, I'm sure they could do it but would feel a bit more like any other mmo or the like 30 franchises that got more popular using hm mechanics :")

@@rouka120 There are a couple of characters that you can meet later on I forget one of them because I didnt actaully get to that point but I did come across an intresting mail carrier character. Really wish I played more to find out who the other character was not sure if I still have my old save file on my wii. Unfotunate but yeah there is just a tad more story if you play long enough just means you played it till the very last detail.

I'm actually against having it show you where events are....with it being rng and you having to be at the right place at the right time with no knowledge of an event even happening (unless you look it up which I disapprove of) it made it feel a lot more natural and less like a game where I just did it cause it told me to...I feel like having the randomness and stuff really helped to make each event you discover even more special.....I understand that perspective may not be for everyone, so it's fine that it's in the game...just hopefully they have an option to toggle it off.

You can pull an all-nighter! However after 6am your character gets a fatigue effect and the RP drains faster. I think it's a great system!

On the topic of the dragons, Venti only exists in the 4th one. Although Rf 1 - 3 also had dragons they weren't as involved in the story in the same way that Venti was and I doubt she would make a reappearance here. It makes zero sense for her to do so regardless, but that wouldn't make it a different universe as RFToD doesn't have dragons either. I will miss Venti though

I'm getting really excited for this one. Story of Seasons disappointed me big time with POOT, I'm not even really playing it until the last of the DLC drops tbh. I had a lot of faith in them from Trio of Towns but after playing POOT for a while... God the new Terracotta Oasis just straight up reminds me more of Harvest Moon ONE WORLD than Trio of Towns or any of their previous and BETTER games. It's embarrassing and almost unforgiveable, unless they re-release an updated Trio of Towns for the switch. I really don't think I could trust anything else from Story of Seasons after the performance with POOT. HOWEVER, the Rune Factory 5 team from the LOOKS of it, still need to play to make sure ofc, but just from the surface and testimony from others, it looks like the RF ppl actually tried to make a BETTER game than their last game, and not just... A game. 9_9;;;;

Honestly, after the new update that fixed makers and improved dialogue, i would say Poot is much better than ToT. I think ToT is one of the most unbalanced games in terms of making money, the dialogue is heavily gendered and generic, there is no s/s marriage, there is barely any farming customization, you spend most of ur time walking bc everything is so far apart and the graphics/character models are hideous (the 2d drawings are okay but the 3d models you can barely distinguish what is an eye and what is a mouth...). A New Beginning and SoS were much better 3ds games. Tho the unnecessarily long tutorial is what brings the rate of these games down, luckily Poot fixed that while ToT only improved on that a tiny bit after SoS, it still is pretty much long and boring. RF is far more a rpg action game than a farming game itself, while SoS focus way more in the farming, which is what i am looking for in the first place.

I was enjoying POOT alright, all of the makers were kinda frustrating.I decided to stop playing til update1.0.5, but while I as waiting I started playing LittleWood so I ended up getting addicted to that. I want to go back to POOT now that the updatedropped, but I haven't gotten back in to it yet.

@@Thimes123 It's not the deepest game but all of it's systems are straight-foward and thorough. My favorite aspect of games such as this is lvling up in all of your skills (which is why RuneFactory is my favorite). But in LittleWood you can gain lvls in farming, mining, woodcutting, etc. PLUS! You can plant flowers and grow different color flowers (which I love.) I def recommend LittleWood.

I dont mind below average graphic, but just give us SMOOTH 30 FPS PERFORMANCE. Nintendo should begin implenting newer technology in their devices (DLSS, Reflex, etc) just to achieve the perfect stable performance. In the end, the only thing that matter is the gameplay of the game

Some potentially interesting information. RF1 and 2 farming were pretty basic, RF3 was out to end you even if you rotated unless you used one of the things on it (unfortunately forget which as it's been a while), and RF4 was a fair balance imo. You could actually not worry about it too much with very little issue, or go all in. And runey system in Frontier literally ruined the game for a lot of people because of how bad it screwed farming. Alternatively, Island of Happiness and Sunshine Island were... Yeah. Trio had a large amount of fertilizers.

I think that frontier isn't really ruined by the runey system it was just something you had to get used to and do effort to understand it. It's not that difficult if you play the game long enough. I feel like almost every game has something or another that people can complain about but when it's something that completely in control by the person actually playing the game they have no room to talk. I have to check up on my runeys maybe 2 times a week at most of course I also spent time researching it so I understood it well. I personally thought that rune factory frontier is on par with rune factory 4 probably even better. I've completed the story for both and I would say I enjoyed frontier a bit more as far as that's concerned and I tend to like the character more than 4 but 4 also had a lot of things it did well. The only rune factory game I have played that deserves harsh criticism is probably tides of destiny. It didn't have a great plot the characters were duller it was constantly glitching and the farming was basically waving a magic stick around there was no complexity to it. I will say however it has pretty good music and the fighting animation looks epic so can't complain too much there.

@Shauna Smith Yeah I mean we all have different taste and feelings about games. My boyfriend and I have very different taste he likes stuff like dark souls and Bloodborne and I like rune factory and Zelda games the most. My best gal friend loved Majora's mask but it's one one least favorite Zelda games I've played because I get constant anxiety watching the time run out. My favorite is ocarina which I know is by far the most popular favorite but it's just a classic in my heart and can't be replaced. I kinda feel the same about frontier it was the first one I played and therefore I have a hard time changing my mind. I did play all the way through tides of destiny tho regardless I wouldn't say it's a bad game it's just definitely not the best rune factory game of the ones I've played. It doesn't feel as polished. If they got rid of the lag/glitching and changed the farming to something similar to the other games I'd like it a lot more. I'd still do it over Stardew tho. I got Stardew valley a Month ago and I just can love it I like it tho but rune factory games are such better farming sims in my opinion I just feel like it does nearly everything better except if you compare it with tides which was still okay since I mostly gave up on farming and just cooked and fished a lot anyways.

@@rachelnielsen167 Yeah farming is definitely sub par in Tides compared to the other entries, that's fair. I think the blend is usually pretty good in Rune Factory. I personally just don't get enjoyment from juggling the rune things in Frontier. Which is kind of weird since I don't mind that 4 can be involved/complex, but I guess I'm more cool with that because you don't have to. I've heard of people talking about soft locking their stuff because of the system. I'm just not a huge fan of stuff like that. Meanwhile, some people prefer lots of farming and being more involved so they don't like Tides. (Farming is the #1 complaint I hear about Tides, which is fair. I guess it's just unique enough and not a deal breaker for me so that's why it doesn't bother me tbh. I definitely get why some people don't like Tides. The first time I played it I was like this reminds me of Dot Jack for some reason. Crafting though... Man I miss the system from Tides NEGL lol)

It was too easy, dungeons are boring and the fact that there is only a tiny 20 levels dungeon at the ultimate challenge was disappointing ( and all that for 4 random chests is not fun. ) Let’s not talk about the random crashes of the game this drove me crazy ( farm some crazy rare cores of grimoire and crash ! I wanted to cry)

I really love the game. It does feel like an incomplete game. Main story felt pretty short and the end boss was pretty underwhelming Missing Green one of the 4 original elemental great fairies with no explanation. And the post game is really just the tower unlock. It does not have any story to it. Just strong monsters and mats. Also its criminal that Simone, Misasagi and Radea are not marriage candidates. I still start up my RF4 game and continue my farming and grinding in it. My dude is several years into the game. And its crazy that Lin Fa in not marriageable in that game.

Hi there! I became a rune factory fan after rune factory frontier. What does anyone think about the background colors and background vegetation/development of RF5? I really hate the neon-kinda colors and there is ZERO foreground vegetation. There just seems to be a bunch of empty space, unlike Rune Factory Frontier. I HATE the look of the back/foreground. But I still want this game... I just wanted to know your opinion! Oh, it also has this glow-y kind of look to it. I hate that too! Ugh. AND how the farm looks with the fully-grown veggies! It all looks so terrible... I really prefer Frontier's look with the easy, pastel, earth tone colors, a bunch of vegetation, the background was beautiful... it seems so much better in graphics.

Definitely agree that Frontier looked better as RF5 looks very rushed and underdeveloped, I'm guessing the reason why is because they didn't have a very big budget and/or not a lot of time to spend making this game look the best it could be. Though it does make sense why there really isn't a lot of vegetation or detail in the world like Frontier had as it is an open world game running on the Switch, couple that with the fact that this is technically the team's "first" game as the only other thing this team did I believe was make RF4 Special which was essentially just a port with some minor tweaks and additional content, it does kind of explain why there isn't a whole lot of detail and why there's very poor performance in the game.

I hate the neon colors too. It's very unstylistic and unfitting with the previous game's pastel and earthy tones. Very sad on that front. The environment is a huge let down for me. I really hope it doesn't make the game not enjoyable for me. If frame rate and such was an issue, I wish they had gone a different route where it isn't open world :/

@@nesquik7835 Yeah, I legit don't think I'll spend $60 on this game. It's so so disappointing. I couldn't buy this and NOT be upset about how it looks. So it's not worth the $$.

@@AWren-mh2zx Fr. For a revival of the series, they were far too innovative. Had the environment resembled Frontier and ToD more, I would be pleased but instead if reminds me of a low effort older indie game. Far too clashy with the character models and rather dizzying to look at. I won't lie, I'm still getting the game since I've waited since Junior high to play a new rune factory game, but I'm sad it isn't what I had hoped it to be. I get the company went bankrupt but I think they could have made better design choices on the budget that they had.

the only issue i have with this game uis that the town is way to big with to much emptyness between building if everything was closer it be easier to traverse even with teleport thats one thing i miss from 4 everytthing was closer

You can either import a physical version or create another profile on your switch and set it as japanese. Though you will probably need to buy japanese eshop credit online for payment as the japanese eshop doesn't take all european cards. Mine definitely don't work for it. I usually buy eshop credit on playasia if I want to buy japanese games. You can also import physical copies from them, but tax and shipping can be quite expensive. Though if you are not at least passable at reading japanese playing the game will be horribly difficult, as you won't know where to go or what to do at all. I made that mistake with SoS TotT

It was really hard but now i can read english correctly and play game or read novel in english. I want to do that with japanese. Whats off-putting for me is that it just looks so ugly in terms of environment. Love the models (Maybe not some of their animations) and the portraits, but the other aspects are a bit of a let down. I wish the UI didn't look like the ds home screen or pictochat esque. The environment is soooo saturated (as in color) that it contrasts with the models. Very disappointed design wise. Hope its not that same gameplay wise.

@@akiradkcn Not really. I play the game and the game still runs slow, characters can stay clipped or in one movement. Dialogue is better but it feels like the remaster of Mineral town quality and not trio. Makers are more convenient but still bulshit. Hairstyles look blocky, the new areas have nothing other than the new characters. The new characters are not in the festivals. Still the characters blacks out at 2 am no matter what.

Man, this looks so much better than RF4. I bought 4 since I used to play SoS, but found it so boring.. but this one looks much better since it seems a bit more open world and 3d. Is there a lot to do each day? In rf4 I felt like I had nothing to do besides some farming and a daily quest since after talking to the villagers a few times they had nothing new to say..

I haven't played it as much as OP, but in my opinion... it's about the same. In fact it feels even slower than RF4 as time passes more slowly and shops open later. In terms of how much there actually is to do, it's about the same. After doing your morning farming and shop purchases, you spend the rest of the day either crafting, beating up monsters or sleeping. There isn't really much of an inbuilt incentive to beat up monsters either, since the combat system is unimpressive (it's basically 1:1 of RF4's), levels are less important than gear, and there really isn't any sort of time pressure in the game. All in all, if you found RF4's pacing slow, you'll probably feel the same about RF5.

so from what i get from the video is that the dragons are like the farming islands in rf tides of destiny? ugh. i hated that. i like having seasons change on a steady farm. thats the prob with the way rf5 looks is that it took too much from tod and not from frontier and i honestly liked frontier a lot lol.

The farm dragons are not seasonal like in ToD! Their only difference is that they require different amount of crystals for upgrades, but they all follow the actual seasons!

As someone who has been waiting years for this, I'm a bit disappointed with the environment. The grass/ground texture looks bad and the town/dungeon looks empty. I hope the gameplay makes up for it.
