What do you do as a christian when God tells you to honor your mother and father but at the same time you are called to serve and the word of God says whoever is not willing to forsake their mother and father cannot be my disciple. And what do i do when i feel that my pastor does not know enough about what I'm going through spuritually. Like what are the respect dynamics.

Hi family. I’m not sure if we have enough context to answer this question fully. However honoring doesn’t mean agreeing with everything they do or how they live their lives. At the very least not disrespecting them or the position of being a mother or father is always a good place to start.

oh when God says whoever is not willing to forsake their father and mother.. it's about attachment. now Jesus becomes your #1 priority and you can't hold earthly relationships as an idol in your heart. yes, honoring your parents is important but there's a difference between treating them with respect, loving them vs. putting them above God. hope this helps!
