Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! Best demo of song ever! I struggled with figuring this song out for years and just gave up. Thank you so much!

Appreciate you tackling this song! This is such a great song that goes unrecognized. I’m embarrassed to say it was my theme song as a teenager growing up in the 80’s but, I survived and life is now good . Paul Westerburg did such a great job of encapsulating rejection with his lyrics, vocals, guitar, and volcanic emotion. A rare stripped down song but one of my favorites!

More Replacements!! Alex Chilton is another big one that uses open A, as well as Left of the Dial. I believe Waitress In the Sky does as well but I could be wrong

Hi Adrian! Thanks for doing another lesson on the Replacements! Paul used open A on Left of the Dial as well as Alex Chilton. Very unusual and I’m not sure of any other rock songs using this tuning. Thanks again!

I'd also add, this helps justify keeping a guitar in open G for playing When My Baby's Beside Me (Big Star) -- which I would LOVE to see you do a lesson on, as I struggle with hearing the notes in the wah part of the solo. *Hint hint*

I saw this band in Mpls. Jammed with Paul at some keg parties in the day. Then bam there he is at the Cabooze in the Replacements. There were other bands there The Crash Street Kids & Beat the Clock. Great rocking times.

Thanks! One of my favorites, not just a Replacements favorite. I've been able to sort of approximate it in standard tuning but really not that close. This is perfect.

“If you need help… If you need help… If you need help….” Yes, this was very helpful. Figuring out how to play this song is an accomplishment second only to having written it. I always assumed it was two guitars double tracked.

This sounds great! Even though this was from 'Let it Be', Westerberg started to use open tunings more and more on 'Tim'. Supposedly, he found it easier when he had to play both rhythm and lead parts on songs live, as Bob sadly started to drift away from the band.
@johnnada.Ай бұрын
If you look up the Westerberg interview that was sponsored by Miller Beer - called something like ‘The Craft’ - he talks about writing and tuning a bit - I saw it here on KZbin a few years ago

I was recently listening to Let It Be again. Such a great album. Makes you wonder how the Replacements were one of the biggest bands in the world in the 80s. I guess they were just a little too genuine and weird.

Fantastic! I tried learning it in standard tuning, with the Bsus4 > B > B6 thing up at the 7th fret, a real mess! ... Say, Adrian, if you take requests here, can I propose a few? (OK way more than a few but no one else is approaching this type of music!) Replacements - "Color Me Impressed"; Wire - "A Question of Degree"; Public Image Ltd. - "Annalisa"; Killing Joke - "Pssyche"; Echo & The Bunnymen - "A Promise" / "The Puppet" / "Back of Love"; Buzzcocks - "Love You More" / "Ever Fallen in Love?" / "Promises"; Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - "Thirsty Dog"; Suede - "Animal Nitrate" / "The Drowners" / "Metal Mickey"; Robyn Hitchcock & The Egyptians - "Egyptian Cream" / "The Cars She Used To Drive"; Brian Eno - "Burning Airlines Give You So Much More"; Oingo Boingo - "Dead Man's Party" / "No One Lives Forever".
