The story is so wholesome which is rare to find nowadays. These types of stories and movies should be immortalized and I think that this is just the first half of the story of Bryce and Julie. Not everything could be left in the imagination of the readers. You can fast forward to the week after the sycamore tree was planted, then 5 years after, and then 10, 15 and 30 down the line when they have their own children and grandchildren. It would be good to have a definitive ending. The whole world will be discussing about it.

I think having no sequel is what makes the movie and book great it gives something for the reader to think all alternative ways of the ending and since there's no offical ending any of the alternative ways could be plausible. (still kinda want the sequel tho lol)

I think it's amazing how fictional characters can make us feel. I watched the movie and fell in love with it instantly. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart to write such a story, that was so simple at its core, yet so touching and inspiring. Unlike most people however, I'm happy that it didn't get a sequel and the fact that they didn't kiss at the end (I personally think it'd have ruined their innocence, in a way). A sequel would have felt unoriginal and rushed, which is why I'm glad the way it ended.

I normally read fantasy books but this book just caught my attention and as soon as I started reading it, I couldn't stop. It made me realise that a normal story about first love is beautiful in its own way. Thank you for this book and although I know you don't plan on writing a sequel, many like me would definitely read it!

I know we all want a sequel, but I think the ending of the book was actually perfect. Their whole lives Bryce and juli thought they had each other figured out, and at the ending when juli said “we never actually talked” it kind of shows how they didn’t. The open ending is perfect because we don’t know if they end up together but we do know that both of them have the interest to try

I just recently found the movie; and I have enjoyed watching and rewatching it, as well as these types of videos about the movie and/or book. Also, I have seen your “10 year reunion interview” with the four actors. I left another rather long comment on that video as I wanted to join the conversation as I listened and formed my own thoughts about some of the topics. Below, I have copied you on the original comment I made after first viewing the movie as a KZbin rental. After viewing this Q&A video, I thought you might like another perspective. (I know you have received soooo many!! But since it is your baby, I believe you enjoy reading our [fan] thoughts.) Below, I have shared a unique perspective about Chet that I have not heard in any of the interviews thus far. And I shared some of the reasons I was so moved by remembering my similar experiences, especially in meeting and dating my own wife. Thank you for the beautiful story, and stirring up those memories again! Here it is. . . Loved it! Just what I needed to lift my spirit. Very moving as it was set in my growing up years; and I could relate to the youthful push and pull of hopeful, stop and go relationships. But thank goodness for Chet, that wise old man; or should I say "wily" old man. It seemed as if he saw and understood Juli and Bryce, gently guiding them in their search to find one another. I loved his beautifully chosen words of a painter, delivered to Bryce about Juli. "Some of us got dipped in flat, some in satin, some in gloss, ever once in a while you find someone who's iridescent. When you do, nothing will ever compare." That was my experience. We were part of a tight-knit group of friends; and I had some clues of her interest in me. Until one night, she and I were out together as friends. In the space of one night. . .just like Chet said. . .I was struck by her iridescent glow. I could hardly sleep or function the next day until I talked with her. So, I laughed a knowing laugh as we heard Bryce's thoughts, "Juli Baker had always seemed plain to me, until now. ....This weird feeling started taking over in the pit of my stomach. ...I was slippin' man!" For me, she and I became inseparable, dating through high school and college, then marriage and family. And our professions intertwined so closely that it was obvious we were made to be together with a grander purpose. Well, she's been gone now for some time. But I still miss her, especially when I see a story like "Flipped". I know many of us were disappointed that there was not more to the telling of their story. I like to think, not only did Bryce and Juli find one another and marry, but Chet got an amazing, wonderful, iridescent grand daughter-in-law!

So, The thing I like about flipped is how it is set up. It is set a few years back from when the movie was made. Though having no sequel which causes mystery is cool and all but a sequel would be super awesome because we would know what happened.:)

Wendelin, I'm curious about this: The film is settled in the 50s and 60s, where as your book takes place somewhen in the 90s (at least in the german book version they have CDs and camcorders and Chet is reading Tom Clancy). I personally think the 50/60s style fit the story very well, also because the egg yard feels more natural in that time. My question is: Which time setting do you like better?

Flipped is a great book. A lil upset that I cannot know it soon. I really love Flipped and got 2 versions of it. Flipped isnot only a good book but also a good movie. Unfortunately, the movie was not in the right era. If it had produced in the years 202x, I sure that it can become a blockbuster. Teenagers and young adults in my country and neighbor countries craze about the movie. 8/10 got its name on the "must see" list. Thank you for writing a very heart-warming story about teenage romance. Hope to see more of your works ^^ Ps: I can be happier if the upcoming book is about teenage romance like Flipped xD

Hi I got a question, does mr Loski have any explanation on why he was angry with himself and what happened in his past? (I havent read the book, only whatched the movie). And if you ever consider to make a sequel i think it would be interesting to tell the story of chet and rennee so in this way it would be related to the first movie/book plus its possible to tell a completely new story with the same topic.

The way Flipped ends is perfect, so I wouldn't want to see a sequel. Fourth grade me found the ambiguous ending impactful, and it's still my favorite book even as I've entered my 20s.

I know that the book itself is great and I think the ending is very satisfactory (in the movie as well) but come on, you've created wonderful characters that have great potential. I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't lose essence of the story/characters if you wrote a sequel. So I won't lose my hope and I'll wait for the day you decide to write a sequel for Bryce and Juli 🤞🤞

Really loved the plot of Flipped! I’m hoping to read the book but I still haven’t. In the film, Juli ran away and was upset when Bryce tried to kiss her. I’m quite confused as to why? I thought she waited for that moment her entire life 🤔

Because she was finally seeing Bryce for the coward he'd been, and her heart and her head were having quite a battle at that moment!
