Wow! I can't wait to be there this year! My bros since ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ( we are in our late 40's LoL) boy trip for sure. We're from California, & yes we are FBA'S. But we come with peace ,respect & most of all love. I'm totally excited!! From the food , the music, OMG the BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE! ❤ But most of all I personally want to learn the spiritual benefits of carnivals I'm particularly gravitating towards the Haitians of the carribean culture.🤔🤔🤔 again I'm looking forward to seeing you All!

I needed this! i plan to go next year as a first timer to either Miami or St. Lucia. Since Miami's is always Columbus weekend in OCT. When do bands start displaying costumes. June??

Bands typically launch as early as May/June. The South Florida Carnival Bandleader's association launched the overall Miami Carnival ShowCase with some costume from the bands in April. My suggestion would be to just stay tuned to their socials ( I have them linked in this guide: bahamianista.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-miami-carnival-2023/) and see which ones you like the most and wait for band launches for next year. Lol its taking me some time but I'm sure to have the Saint Lucia vlog up in a bit lol

I wonder if I should try the train for pick up or just drive because last year I left out early enough so that traffic wasn’t bad and I’m from NY so traffic is my last name 😅. This year I’m going solo and I’m in charge of planning, im attending Bachannal Beach, Big Phat Fish, SSS Blue, Scorch N Spice, Soca Brainwash, Miami Carnival/Jouvert w Gen X, and Panorama! I missed out last year because people cancelled last min but this year is “redemption” lol! Im excited!

The earlier your pickup the better to be honest but it should be ok driving as well if you're used to traffic. It's just unpredictable so it can go good or it can be really bad lol if anything just use the train as a back up

Hello im coming for my birthday and I’m a bit confused on two things. As a first timer, what comes with the jouvert spectator ticket? I know we won’t get the free drinks and food but do we get to mix with the bands and get paint/powder experience or are we just watching like at the carnival on Sunday? .

Also if spectators can’t see or interact with the bands from beginning to end , what time would you recommend getting to carnival? If we do come at the beginning what are spectators doing while they wait?

Hey good question. I believe its just entry into the park for the spectator ticket. Jouvert is moving back to central Broward park so hopefully it does go back to how it was where spectators could interact with the different bands but it may change (best bet is to contact Miami Carnival Org for more info on that and what they offer with the ticket) for your next question, same thing, I'm not sure if they are changing the layout of the parade for central Broward park, if its still the same as years prior spectators will be able to see the bands no problem but they did change it up at the fair grounds last year. If it is the same, I honestly don't know what they would have in place. I remember walking in last year (fairgrounds) getting a drink and heading straight to my band - I believe they had a dutty zone of some sort but your best bet is to contact Miami Carnival directly for that information. Hope that helps.

Carnival is held in the Miami fairgrounds (not the street). You have to register with a band to follow the carnival route or you can buy a spectator's ticket and watch.

Party Room was the one year I didn't make it to the stage but I think they've improved since then. Yes, Revel's jouvert is separate from costume registration

Ive seen people bring in the drawstring backpacks, fanny packs, backpacks, thigh bags but if you want specifics - its probably best to contact someone at Miami Carnival org. Hope that helps

Thank you for making this video! For the Miami carnival, are the masquerades only assigned to March through the fair grounds? Not walking through the city streets? I saw the one in ATL right near my home in midtown and they had streets cut off so they could march through. Will this not be the same for Miami carnival parade ?

Miami Carnival is not a street parade - it stays within the confines of the fairgrounds. So it's not the same as ATL carnival or other carnivals that are held in the street.

Have you ever played Mas on your period? How do you handle it if you have?

Yes, I have but I know everyone is different regarding heaviness of flow, cramps. I'm fortunate enough to never have had an incident but I usually wear tampons and cut the string enough so I can still pull it when I need to change it but also so it's not visible. Also if I anticipate it coming, I would ask for a more modest bottom so I can wear underwear that would give me a bit more security vs a thong. I know some ppl usually delay their periods with a prescription or pills but I just prefer to ride out the storm.

Congrats! Make sure everyone has a meet up point if anyone gets lost. Get to the fairgrounds early unless your band specifies a meet up time. Wear comfortable shoes like sneakers or combat boots, break your shoes in a few weeks before the parade. Stay hydrated (water lol) and have fun.
