Booked and ready! Just struggling on if I need to buy goggles for Jouver’t😅 This will be my first time!
@Bahamianista2 жыл бұрын
I've gotten pairs of goggles before in J'ouvert packages and to be honest I never really wore them lol they've literally just been decoration lol - but I've seen people wear goggles and sometimes face shields; I typically opt for some shades I got for 10 bucks a few years ago and I just make sure to cover my nose and mouth because of the powder/paint etc.

Will spectators and masquerades be able to be together at any point ? Jouvert and carnival?
@Bahamianista Жыл бұрын
Since Jouvert is at central Broward park typically spectators and masqueraders mix but for carnival - the masqueraders follow a closed off route until they're about to approach the stage and that's when spectators can see the bands. Spectators can join in once bands are done crossing the stage towards the end

Weird question but how’s the restroom situation? Are they stationed through the parade route?
@Bahamianista2 жыл бұрын
There are port a potties throughout the route - depending on your band they may have a mobile restroom.

I put all links for events in the pinned comment. There’s bright colors boatride, suits miami, booze n bacchanal, ssa boat ride and bend as well as an all white boat ride that happens every year. I’d recommend Suits but it’s early on the 10th

So if you get a general admission ticket to the concert and parade at carnival instead of with a mas band. Can you still jump up and enjoy the festivities and party with mas players or are you seated/fenced off?
@Bahamianista2 жыл бұрын
For most of the parade it’s fenced off. There’s a short portion of the route right before the stage that spectators can see the mas bands, you can also see the mas players cross the stage and then after the stage is when the bands park the trucks and anyone can jump in. Included in the gA ticket is the concert and I believe (not completely certain) that Miami Carnival Org has certain zones where DJs play music etc.

I’m not part of a band for Miami and I’m a newbie to carnival. If I’m not playing mas, what do I wear…? Do I just put together my own costume? I know won’t be with a band but are people allowed to wear a costume? I’m definitely planning to play mas for Trinidad or Toronto next year. Thought I would ask because I see people selling customs carnival costumes. Would that only be for Bachanal? Thank your for the video! Perfect timing and very informative!
@Bahamianista2 жыл бұрын
Hi! So if you're getting a spectator ticket you can pretty much dress like how you would if you were going to a party that you would be doing a lot of dancing at. Comfortable shoes, top and shorts. A hat, shades because the parade goes from 11am to 11pm. Just keep in mind the Miami Carnival route (well most of it) proceeds through a closed off route in the fairgrounds and spectators typically only see the end of the parade when the carnival bands make their way towards the stage. Because Miami Carnival is a competition, the organization prefers if spectators don't dress in costume but persons usually come with their flag repping where they're from. For Bacchanal Monday (the day/event after Miami Carnival Parade); you can definitely do carnival wear or monday wear from a previous carnival or if you want to get something custom made - should be fine. Thanks for watching and glad you found it informative. Let me know if you have any other questions.

@TheRachel3432 жыл бұрын
I would say it’s okay to be a spectator and have your own costume. Many people do it year after year. You’ll just be separated from people actually playing mas apart of the bands.
@Bahamianista2 жыл бұрын
@@TheRachel343 I think ppl should be allowed to do what they want but a lot of ppl who spectate in costume plan on “storming the route” and it often affects the experience for paid masqueraders. As long as it’s done respectfully I don’t see an issue with it but miami carnival organizers have definitely expressed that they discourage it

Carribean carnival did NOT begin in Trinidad. Each Carribean island had their own version of carnival BEFORE Trinidad carnival became the most famous, and they were just called different names. When Trinidads Festival became the most recognized globally, then all the different islands dropped their names and just called it "carnival". Since Carribean countries history is similar, we all had a version of carnival before.

Thanks for sharing. I remember a hefty debate about when/where carnival officially started on Twitter but no one could provide research or articles or names of books. In my research I’ve found that a few countries have had their celebrations dating back to slavery but turned to the “commercialized carnival” as a means to diversify tourism or reawaken national festivals and culture - if you have any thing that points to the history in regards of literature please let me know so I can further Educate myself. Thanks for watching
