Regarding songwriting and writer's block - a few years ago I was listening to a video about songwriting - and I'm fairly confident they were quoting John Mayer (go figure) - he said - if you are waiting around for inspiration to write a song - you're not a song-writer - you're a song-waiter - songwriters find inspiration in everyday things - and this has proven true for me - after that experience I wrote an album's worth of songs - with only 1 cheesy love song in the entire bunch! And they all came out to be respectable songs - and challenged me as a songwriter - Love your John Mayer story by the way Mary -

My first song on guitar: “Fade to Black” by Metallica. For years I just forgot how to play it, but lately it’s come back to me in pieces and now I can play most of the rhythm guitar part again. My metal phase became a Grunge phase (I’m dating myself as I was a teenager during Grunge), then an indie rock phase, so now I can go from Dio to Soundgarden to Built to Spill.

Song suggestion for you Mary, when the fan questions get too personal: "'t Ain't Nobody's Business If I Do / Billie Holiday" I've met many famous people in my longish life, I appreciate their accomplishments but socially, unless they approach me, I usually just leave 'em be about their lives. I don't know why someone would ask a question about her voice.? Imo her speaking voice is just as soothing as her singing voice.. She has a slight British accent that I adore.. It's not overbearing or a harsh tone that sounds almost condescending as I feel about some others. Her singing voice is purely beautiful. As is she.. Some of those questions had to be just poor attempts of humor..
