We live in a Plutocracy and have for many decades. Heather and Robert I really don't like to say it but here it is anyway: Democrats just don't put forward tough Candidates, Democrats Focus on issues that don't matter to the fast majority, Democrats don't play Hardball etc... I'm an old Fiscal Conservative Republican that has voted a straight Democratic ticket starting with Mr. Obama, strictly because the GOP is no longer a Party Governed by the Constitution. So I vote for Democrats such as they are.,
@desertsunset81-arcticfox3 күн бұрын
Maybe you should try to find local candidates to support up thru the ranks. I too am(unprintable) with the Dem party, especially the old guard which won't give way to younger. At 70, my support is with the 20,30,40s who are more in touch w reality on the ground. Cheers, Happy New Year

My biggest frustration with the current DNC is the constant refrain of "We consistently lose elections all the time," and the inner-reflection they do always seems to result in the answer "It's everybody else's fault, not our candidates we select." As the party shifts to being Diet-Republican, real Republicans aren't going to vote when they can just go for the full flavor version instead, and people stay home because they don't care. We need better candidates that get the base to actually go out and vote.

However, like you & Heather & millions more Americans, I am hanging onto hope as best I can! Bless you & Heather for you hard work. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I’m 72 too! Off and on activist over years. Th se strains of white supremacy, conservatism, have always bee with us, but Republican have persistently, strategically, ruthless exploited weaknesses in our “democracy “ to effect minority rule, successfully push agendas that are not popular with the American people. Democrats and progressive need to be similarly bold and strategic with the goal of fixing our system to be actually democratic. That’s a huge task, but who would have thought some years ago that the Republican could actually remove a fundamental right of women and girls to autonomy. It will not be easy, it has to be a goal with plans and steps-without a goal and plans and steps we will continue to be ruled by minority who serve only large corporations and religious fundamentalists who will support them to get their theocratic agenda, white supramacist moral police state.

@trueblue85583 күн бұрын
@@matthewc3488Exactly! People are running around stealing regurgitated words as if the things we see haven’t been going on! The sudden outcry, fear mongering, newly elected political concerns are frustrating at best! I can name a list of presidents and elected officials who have used money as a tool to win elections, and who have voted against the interests of the American public AND WON! Ask them about the “dark times ahead”, and they will not be able to tell you without doubt, that those “dark times” will happen. People need to wake the hell up and stop being pissed because their candidate didn’t win. Did I vote for Trump? No I did not. But if the guardrails the “founding fathers” put in place have held up for the past nearly 2.5 centuries, then, they should hold up in the next 4. Lastly, Democrats and Independents are prongs on those guardrails. They’d better stand in and do what they were elected to do should Trump overstep, which we all know he will try. Here’s to a prosperous 2025, and may we all be guided and protected.

Robert & Heather, stay positive! You provide us hope and enlightenment! We have faced much dire times in the world and humanity has prevailed during those dark times. What we need to do is fight every battle, do not give an inch on anything!

Robert you’re so right - we must incorporate more FUN going forward and NOT focus on the incoming chaos! Let those who are paid the big bucks figure this awful trajectory out! I’ll cheer them on!

At minute 4:00 , Heather made the great point about the negatives in short term (“the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”). I was lucky enough to work on Robert's Gubernatorial campaign in Massachusetts and even went to the Convention. I appreciate all the work and teaching that he has done and continues to do. We will not negate all of the progress that has been made in the past years. Thank you and I look forward to Coffee Klatch on Saturday

What does that mean that some arc is bending to wherever, when in Gaza children are being targeted by IDF drones, as related by an NIH official?? Joe Biden FAILED. He lost a winnable very pivotal election to the equivalent of the candidate for the KKK. Who is going to be deliberately destructive to our system of government. WHAT ARE YOU PLEASE TALKING ABOUT???

I was deeply touched by Robert's comment about the Parthenon. My Father took me there in 1970. I sat down on a large stone in absolute awe and cried as well. Thank you for all you both do.

Merry Xmas to all, it continues until Epiphany so "keep feasting" as our former pastor used to say and thank you for this year of inspiration and encouragement.🎉

I love you guys! Listening to you is like listening to dear friends. Your warm, loving outlook of life is so refresh in today’s world, most particularly politically. Thank you for keeping me saying, for keeping me hopeful, and for pointing out that, no matter, wise ahead of us, if we stick together, we will not only survive. We will thrive. May your new year be filled with adventure, love, challenges, and joy.

A good mental exercise for neutralizing worry is to appreciate that we are only living right now -- and that worry is a negative outlook on the future. So right now we each have the power to alter our outlook. And maybe consider better ways forward. We have a lot of neglect to remediate.

Yes, go to Greece, Heather. You can still go up to the Acropolis, where the Parthenon is. There are also other incredible things to see, like the ruins at Mycenae and the artifacts and excavation on Santorini. The politics surrounding the building of the Parthenon is also interesting with the hubris and short-sightedness involved.

Regarding despair - isn’t what we long for is to be immediately mirrored in our anxiety. Imagine how comforting and meaningful it could be to be in a cafe, where people have come together, commune and organize their fear and emotions, and be reminded we are not alone. The lack of this is what surprises me. I think the internet is to blame. 30 years ago, maybe we’d be more likely to assemble, and help regulate each other and strategize. That’s what we need. But I don’t know how to begin something like that. Can anyone point to an online community that guides and inspires people, with methods and ideas, on how to assemble, how to organize? I feel the need so strongly, but don’t know how to begin.

Mr Reich, thank you for opening my mind on most issues. I watched the "10 worst things about the Trump presidency" video and now I've been binging all of your videos and listening to the Coffee Klatch when I had the time. It's been fantastic. Thank you for being a voice for the working class.
