sound being emitted out the back of the bike does reflect off the car behind and come back forward, I often turn around and look for the bike that's coming, just to realise it's the acho of my bike coming off the car behind... and around here, the Harleys (mostly criminal gangs) can be heard from miles away... and I mean MILES away!

100 percent, louder pipes DO save lives! 3 times it’s either helped me or I witnessed it helped others! And ok I’ve heard you say this about the sound going backwards… the sound also goes forward! It bounces and reverberates off of everything and the sound waves always reflect to the front of the bike also. Tell me have you never been standing still and see a bike or car coming towards you from a distance, hauling ass, do you only hear it AFTER it passes you? Edit: Also think of it this way too, it’s not a matter of how many people does it need to save for it to be considered safer to ride with a louder bike, it just needs to save ONE person and, to me at least, that makes it worth saying that it increases safety. Considering I’ve witnessed a few times I know for sure I’m not the only one! Love the videos Yams

The irony about riding in very cold weather is it is more dangerous than people assume. When you start off, you're usually not cold. The nature of getting cold is a process. When your core temperature keeps dropping and dropping, it affects your mind in ways you do not realize, and you are unable to properly assess how cold you actually are getting. It's not safe at all. Hypothermia is a killer, it's a process, and you need to protect against it. There's not much you can do on a motorcycle when it's cold enough, except use suitable heated gear. You have to put heat into your body because otherwise all the layers in the world will eventually fail in a matter of time, as your body isn't able to produce enough heat just sitting, to stave off eventual "too cold" conditions.

I agree with the weather. I just picked up my Ducati Panigale v2 and I road it home almost straight freeway 70mph and it was a 2 and half hour drive. Was it unbearable no, but it wasn’t fun. And i even had the factory Ducati butt warmer and that didn’t really help.

I have no minimum temp for riding. Ive ridden down to 15f but would still go colder. In my bicycle commuting days i rode a 45 minute commute at -20f a couple of times. But on the bicycle i could mount studded tires for the street.

My view on loud exhaust is that if you ride in a city that is jam packed with other motorcyclists, it makes people aware of you being around them vs a quiet exhaust. But for car drivers, not so much.
@tedmccauley931918 күн бұрын
I’ve heard that theory before, but safety minded loud exhaust people almost never wear hi-vis reflective vests. So is it safety, or just making a lot of noise?

The Hornet SP is dope and I hope it comes to the US. Its a little heavy (par for the course for an inline four) and down on power (~150) for a 1000cc, but that price point and color scheme is 🤌

Should I get a steering damper? I’m getting a 600cc supersport. I only see them really on flagship bikes. At least from factory lol
@generaljack848820 күн бұрын
It really just depends on your riding style, typically if you find yourself roll racing or getting the front end up a lot you could be wise to have one. Either that or if you're doing heavily spirited riding where you are accelerating hard and braking hard immediately after. Speed wobbles are from your tire turning when there is no load and then immediately going under load with no correction.
@generaljack848820 күн бұрын
Some people don't always like having them especially for being a commuter being that it does slow down your slow speed steering. In my opinion it's really not that bad but a good damper will also be pretty manageable at slow speeds
@jayaneyon931619 күн бұрын
All gsxrs have them stock. I recently rode mine without the damper and it's ok but feels sketchier and less confidence inspiring. You do get more feel without it though and it's easier to maneuver at low speed.

iv found on country roads in Australia I feel more safe with a louder exhaust as the cars seem to give way or at least I have more space when I have upcoming traffic in a busy area or at night time when the bike echo's up the road. I also do less windo slaps or dont smash my knee into cars trying to merge.

I filled my TikTok fyp with moto vloggers. Most, if not all people who ride a 1k cc bike are all the same. My current infatuation is the new zx4rr and they all say not to get it unless you’re going to use it as a track bike. I understand why but don’t. Why does it have to be a track bike, it doesn’t. I know that it was ergonomic build for track in mind but they are all hypocites. Like why get a 1000cc bike if your only street riding.
@512Chaos20 күн бұрын
Advertising your speed has always been an odd one to me, I have no idea why people want any vehicle to be louder for the sake of being louder. This is an artifact of when the side effect of power was noise, we got better at reducing that noise without affecting power but we still have people who equate noise with performance. These are known as posers.
@Joes43220 күн бұрын
Very succinctly put. Comes from the days of “straight pipes were more power” which back then, this was absolutely true. But now? They learned true design.

I spent a year in an impulse buy 2014 mustang gt, and while it was enjoyable, when it was time to get something more sensible for the family, I really was just left thinking how inefficient the engine was, sure it’s loud and pulls but wasted so much gas in the process, like I hold 90 mph highways all day in my Corolla and use way less gas. V strom 650 fits the bill for practically all riding situations, great on gas and comfy. that being said took the HOG to work today and absolutely revved the shit out of it for sound effects alone 😂 oh well
