Great to see the promotion of superkarts for the future mate. I hope KZbin is a good platform for bringing more people to the sport, whether watching at the circuits or taking part. Channels like yours and Curtis Seymour's and others are great too watch. Cheers for the uploads 👍

USA South Carolina here. Great Q&A Rob! I was peeing my shorts last night watching your rain race, my helmet is bowed to Ya'll, we don't rain race. Might a 63 year old add a few things for your new Kart followers to further their introduction? My old 250 Rotax single shifter is a full enduro lay down. We run Daytona, Charlotte, Roabling Road, CMPCarolina, big courses like you chaps. On Ulimited enduros we normally run butterfly steering with paddle shifters. Full arm strength must be developed! Of course the clutch is only used to come off the starting line. We do about a 5K to 6k clutch drop to get a little spin of the tires and drift from an angle into a straight line. This is also important to quickly get heat into the tires as we do not do pace laps; grid to green flag. If your not using tire warmers, winter and spring (March) morning races are a hand full for a couple laps. We also adjust our carbs on the fly by looking at our temperatures to get maximum performance. I have a modified carb that allows me to also adjust my main jetting, but knowledge of spark plug reading from practice is important on new or rebuilt engines. Hope this added to you new young fellows getting out there. PS: Dont over drive at first and on a new track. I have cracked ribs, dislocated my back, and bent fuel tanks with my hip because i use to hammer to hard with cold tires. Be wise, study your course, walk or drive the circuts👍, and then have fun!! d

I found one of the most spectacular sights in motorsport was when the karts were using the original Silverstone GP circuit during the1980s at the British Kart Grand Prix events. They were using the original Woodcote corner without any chicanes. The sight of a full grid of 250 twins taking it absolutely flat out was an amazing sight. Whether todays 250s twins would be much faster I guess we'll never know now. I think the fastest lap at that time was an average of 117mph. Superkarting was having a golden age back then with massive grids especially with the 125s which were divided up into batches of 60. Here is a video from 1982 kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2TEYqesrpqHa5o&ab_channel=BohlinRacing

Hi Rob Just started watching your channel and think you have a really professional approach. It will will really attract new younger people to the sport. I raced Divison1 (Formula E) from 1988 to 1996. It was a fantastic time with great names to be racing against. We competed at British long and circuit championships along with World and European. As you say the purest form of motorsport. All the best in Div 1 for 2022. I will try and catch up with you at one of this years meetings. Roger Mayers

Suggestion: mount your camera in the left so we can more easily see your shifting. Vids where u can easily see the shifts & how busy it makes your hands are more impressive IMO. Question: how expensive is it to race a D1 superkart vs other classes including sprint kart classes? I’m thinking basics like travel minus hotel costs, purchase of the kart, entry fees, maintenance, and consumables (Eg tires). Enough to do the basics practice, qualify, race minus unnecessary go fast gear or extra practice time for a reason.
@MyRob10 Жыл бұрын
Your probably looking at just over £1K per race weekend + plus food etc… and then if things go wrong I.e mechanical failures then can easily add that on top. That’s a good ball park figure

What engines do the 125cc Superkarts use? are they the same as the KZ2 gearbox karts use?

Hi matey! Thanks for coming onto the channel! The 125cc Superkarts use the same engines as the KZ2, for example a TM KZ10… however they will have a much bigger Carb with a completely different setup to cater for long circuits! Hope that helps mate!

The thing with SuperKart is........ it just doesn't get enough exposure, and not considered as a form of stepping ladder into professional motorsports. It's mainly for the rich older farts with midlife crisis or retired racers who tried but couldn't make a professional career out of racing but want to race again for fun (no offense, mainly joking..... well, half-joking, haha). I mean, of course it doesn't matter if you're just doing it as a fun hobby but for those people who wants to take racing seriously and see how far they can go, SuperKarts just isn't the path to take.......though I'm sure you're fully aware of that. Plus SuperKarts just doesn't deliver the same close combat racing that sprint kart does which is the main reason why. With that said, I would LOVE to own a SuperKart just for the pure speed and thrill of going that fast. Too expensive though.
@MyRob102 жыл бұрын
Actually quite a few Superkart drivers have progressed to numerous “Formula” classes of racing so have to disagree with you there. I do appreciate that the rich families start their young child off in the wildly expensive short circuit racing. And sorry but I do disagree with you again, I’ve whitenesses both long and short circuit racing, and some of the closest, and ‘fastest’ forms of motorsport racing on the absolute limit has been on long circuit with Superkarts and nothing else comes remotely close. There simply is nothing better than a full grid of Superkarts on a track like Silverstone going wheel to wheel at 130mph/140mph. You just don’t get that on short circuit having raced both before. But yes short circuit is admittedly the more natural stepping stone for young drivers. We have an age restriction on Superkarts so really can’t accommodate younger drivers due to safety. Yes your right more exposure and marketing would help Superkarts massively for sure!!
