Great video Alex! The more you study, the less likely you are to get burned. Also, buying from reputable dealers is the easiest way to know your getting the real McCoy! There is very few better than Dave when it comes to German badges and awards. When you buy off of him you may pay a bit more BUT you never have to worry about it being a fake. Part of the purchase prices is the many years he’s put in to know about these items. In your last video, you showed a retired aviators badge that Dave wanted $26,000. If people knew how hard it was to find one of these in the condition he had it in, they would understand it’s a reasonable price. I’d buy it myself if I had the free cash (try to get it for &24,000)!

Just a couple of comments. First Dave, that Waffen SS officer's visor was NOT out of line at that price. As a 30 year German headgear collector who has one, that is what they command now. Secondly, I don't think you can ever master German militaria, especially as dealer who tries to sell it all. I am still learning, mostly by period photos and documentaries, how varied this hobby is. That's why I tried, however difficult as we all know, to stick with one specific collecting area. Good hunting!

Great advice and knowledge presented here. I’d add if you have collected long enough, my journey started in the 70s, you will encounter the veteran who also has fakes they picked up after the war. I once met a veteran who swore his Spanish M42 was taken from a German he killed in the Battle of the Bulge. Buy the item not the story. Learn to know what you are buying by asking questions, studying, and handling originals. Value is often what someone is willing to pay not what you think something is worth. Making good friends is also recommended. Look out for each other.

Thank you for educating those of us who are fond of these badges. Unfortunately, my paratrooper badge by that maker matches the “unoriginal” one you reviewed😢.

So Dave are you saying that any badge that is engraved with a paratrooper SS guy's name on it is fake is that what you're saying Dave thanks

Prices are now inflated and the quality is down. The best items most always exchange within tight circles of collectors. Collectors from the 60's-70's still have the best, if still alive.
comparison video of fake and original...badges / daggers... [side by side] would be so welcomed !!! ..

seriously, if someone has restaurant expenses of 2500 they dont have to save to buy militaria....

DYOD and research...it takes years to develop a good knowledge of German WW2 artifacts, especially badges and medals which are highly faked

Items like badges were reproduced again shortly after the end of the war. The black market knew that American GI's loved souvenirs to bring home postwar. It fed the economy.

Careful selling to Dave and Ryan at Epic Atrifacts, if you don't know the true value of the item, they will lowball you really bad. They're not trustworthy when it come to a fair price.
