As in most things in life there are at least two ways to succeed, firstly raw talent, and an eye for detail, second sheer hard work and dedication. I am reminded of two British golfers, Sandy Lyle and Nick Faldo, Lyle naturally gifted and relaxed, Faldo living on the driving range hitting ball after ball till His hands bled, made himself into a five major title champion, Lyle only won the one Masters.

Finally, an artist that thinks like me when it comes to "talent". It all comes down to hard work and long hours. Yet, people still believe that we artists create something stunning as if it was nothing. Jono, you are good at what you do because you have spent all that time working at it and you are a true inspiration to me and other artists. Thank you for being so sincere in answering these questions. You are the best!

I was curious about how you would answer the age question. I'm 48 and a novice artist, still just getting my feet wet. I feel like I have something inside me that I have a need and passion to express. Whenever I am creating, that something trickles out and I feel purpose and I totally get lost in what I'm doing. I want that dam to break wide open. Your videos inspire me! Your works inspire me! I think I need to go draw now. Have a wonderfully creative day everyone!

I totally agree...it’s never too late. Like you, I have never studied art, but was always drawing as a child and into my teens. I made choices in my life that took me in another direction and only now, as I’m about to turn 59, do I find myself getting back my artistic mojo. I have found your art and videos inspiring and informative. I love your work and upon seeing it I instantly thought ‘this is the kind of work I might have done had I kept going all those years ago’. I’m not one for dwelling on the past or thinking ‘if only I’d done this or that’, that time has gone. I’m just grateful that I can still produce art, though not anything like your work 🙇🏼, and there are people like you out there willing to share their work and experiences to help and encourage people like me to keep at it. A huge thank you Jono.

Procrastination is often linked to a desire for perfection. Anxiety arises from fear of missing it. It can be crippling and a walk or doing a less intimidating drawing exercise can break the pattern, as long as you come back to whatever you were procrastinating (or you’ll train yourself to keep avoiding similar situations!). Break it down into manageable chunks, and don’t think too far ahead. Also tell yourself that no one and nothing is truly perfect and doing the best you can is always better than doing nothing. 🕊❤️

I’m rediscovering my passion for art after 25 years of basically being dormant. It’s mostly due to being recently hired to teach high school art classes, but it’s reignited things I haven’t felt since back in the day. It hasn’t been easy trying to do things that were once 2nd nature after years of neglect, but I’m enjoying the challenge. Your work is amazing, but I particularly enjoy how you provide feedback and answer questions. Both help to inspire and motivate me. I can only hope I’m ever close enough to see your work in exhibit someday. Take Care

Jono, thank you. You've inspired me so much with this talk. I've desperately needed to create more discipline in my daily routine, but just needed a push, and this is it. This is why it's so crucial that artists band together in some way and communicate. We are not like the others. And in ways that are not easily described, we need validation and support from each other, to remind ourselves we're not the only person in the world whose life goal is to create something from nothing.

Really great video! Always so inspiring Jono, you’ve convinced me to return to graphite after quite a long break. Also, I know you’re probably sick of all the questions, but if you had time I was wondering how you go about doing the really detailed parts of your drawings? I often become too overwhelmed when I reach a part that feels chaotic because of the detail and end up not drawing that section as well as I could.

Well done Jono, I love your videos too much, I show them to my students as part of the Visual Art course I teach. I could listen to you for hours. I have questions for your next video (or perhaps they are a bit deep 🤷♀️?). ‘How do you deal with disappointment? Have you ever been disappointed with a drawing, or discarded a piece half way through?’ ‘You talk about ‘luck’, what were some of the circumstances or incidents that you feel contributed significantly to your journey in terms of ‘luck’? Do you believe that you can create your own good luck? If so, how have you done that? Love ya x Jo

Ive admired your work for so long. you are absolutely AMAZING!!!!!! One of the things that frustrates me sometimes is that after seeing a great Artist such as yourself, i go through a wave of emotions. I feel really good and motivated to strive for anything that even remotely resembles your efforts, but then after a few trials and errors i get discouraged. I am overwhelmingly sensitive when it comes to art, always comparing myself to other artists even though im just learning.
