I don't tire of hearing about how you and Mark 'hashed-out' your options and made choices, especially during the pandemic. Sounds like you had a lot going on back in 2020. Happy Holidays and enjoy the New Year!

For those folks who are 5-10 years from a retirement move overseas, and who are going to be living on a reduced income, I recommend slowly adjusting to the lifestyle which you expect to have on the lower projected budget, while still living in your home country, and while you have all of your safety nets (job, family, friends, government) in place. Many wannabe overseas minimalists fail because they cannot keep up that lifestyle over the long haul. A couple of years of doing without might be no problem, but 10+ years can be a challenge. Try it first in your home country for 5-10 years. If you cannot make it work in your home country, then the likelihood of being able to do it overseas, with the additional challenges of adapting to a new culture, is very low. Merry Christmas!

Thank you Kirsten..always wonderful to hear your/other people's POV on such important issues.. Young people are more adaptable to new things and circumstances for sure and still have a long runway ahead. Older people are often more set in their habits so decisions to move along should be made with more care, selfreflection and honest thoughts to one's real needs and desired comforts going forward. We often hear the "success" stories of those who make it sound so easy but not so much of the less successful ones. While I/we can do without many things I'm absolutely not a minimalist nor do hubby and I planning to become one just for the sake of it. We want that change going forward into our golden years with a feeling and knowing that we don't have to sacrifice when come to important things. Like visiting the (grand)children. (food)security etc, having some means to outsource things when we no longer can do it ourselves.. We've not been a long term planner BC but since then we've started to learn about a few things and planning and budgetting is one of them and sadly it taught us that we have squandered a lot of resources...but never too late to change, now that we know we (can )make different choices which will benefit us when we retire soon. Merry Christmas

Thanks for this video. I’m wondering if you think Bangkok is a family-friendly place to live if you have young kids? Happy Holidays!
@whatsupwkirsten13 күн бұрын
I couldn't really say, as I do not have kids. I believe there are a few fb groups geared towards families here in BKK -- there's probably good info there😍

@ Thank you, Kirsten. I will check that out. I watched your Portugal videos, as I’m very interested in Portugal as a place to live. And Thailand is second on my list. Looking forward to visiting both places! Wishing you a very happy New Year!
