This is based on the stats of how many people have gotten it on the Wizarding World Quiz... Mentioned by them only in their article. Though Elder is the rarest when it comes to the actual story line... Even, there is only one way to get this on the quiz still somehow a lot have gotten it and not the Poplar which has 3 ways.

Yeah but elderwood wands are not that special, wand makers simply don't make them since they sell badly because of superstition that they bring bad luck. That's what makes them rarest. THE elder wand that dumbledore had is a different artifact made by death itself from nearby elder tree.

You can only make an apple elder wand, not the elder wand. If you want the short answer, Pheonix and Poplar is the best wand as poplar is just the best wood and the pheonix core scales equally with all types of magic. Like if you ever want to change to dark magic you can with the pheonix core.
