For example in previous series you see recruits do watch were they stay up all night watching the base, we had to do that but it was not shown it was one of the reasons everyone was so sleep deprived that and the fact you think they could come in and beast you at any moment.

Ant reminds me of a more strict/harsh version of my Taekwondo instructor, who is an ex-Gurkha soldier and as someone who’s very similar to my father (also an ex-Gurkha soldier). As someone who experiences this sort of mentoring regularly, I have to say that it really has made me more tough both mentally and physically. Although I know for a fact this type of strictness will definitely break down and crumble those who are more weak-minded, because I was exactly like that as a child (weak-minded). Now that I’m older I finally realise just how much it has benefitted me. I was a weak minded young child but now it’s as if almost nothing can break me down because I’ve already experienced it all

They aren’t weak, they aren’t disappointments, they are human beings. Humiliation may beat them into submission, but you stoke a hatred that will never go away and it will invade the other facets of their lives. They end up in dysfunctional relationships, they end up being people that are just fine with hurting others, particularly innocent people that don’t need to be hurt, and even worse you end up with people that take their own life. Just because a drill sergeant might not see their recruits again, does not excuse them from being personally responsible for the psychological trauma they may cause. The sad thing is, they themselves were humiliated into submission, and so many of them have buried any remorse they might feel.
